An unvaccinated couple who both became infected with COVID-19 died within hours of each other this week, leaving seven children behind, according to a news report.
Troy and Charletta Green of Detroit, both 44, were planning another family trip to Florida after bringing the kids in April.
But this time, Troy stayed behind because he was too sick to travel, Fox 2 Detroit reported.
After Charletta left for a Sunshine State vacation, the couple, whod met at age 14, never saw each other again.

WHO chief urges halt to booster shots for rest of the year
Source: Boston Globe
The head of the World Health Organization is calling on rich countries with large supplies of coronavirus vaccines to refrain from offering booster shots through the end of the year, expanding a call that has largely fallen on deaf ears.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also said Wednesday he was appalled at comments by a leading association of pharmaceutical manufacturers who said vaccine supplies are high enough to allow for both booster shots and vaccinations in countries in dire need of jabs but facing shortages.
I will not stay silent when companies and countries that control the global supply of vaccines think the worlds poor should be satisfied with leftovers, he told a news conference.
Tedros had previously called for a moratorium on booster shots through the end of September, but the United States and other countries have begun or are considering plans to offer them to their vulnerable people.

Human Rights Campaign terminates president over how he helped Cuomo retaliate against an accuser
Source: CNN
(CNN)The Human Rights Campaign has terminated its president Alphonso David following an investigation last month over his actions while assisting former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo who was responding to an allegation of sexual harassment, according to a statement from the HRC.
In a response on social media, David said the termination was unjust. "As a Black, gay man who has spent his whole life fighting for civil and human rights, they cannot shut me up. Expect a legal challenge," he wrote.
The dispute followed the resignation last month of the three-term governor following an investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. In its aftermath, attention was focused on allies who helped shape Cuomo's response to the allegations, which included alleged instances of retaliation against at least one accuser.
James released her report on August 3, concluding that Cuomo "sexually harassed multiple women and violated state law."

Judge orders Trump's 'Remain in Mexico' policy to be reinstated
Source: The Hill
A federal judge has ordered the Biden administration to reinstate the "Remain in Mexico" policy that had been put in place by the Trump administration, stating that President Biden's White House had acted "arbitrarily and capriciously" in ending the program.
As CBS News reported, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk said in his ruling on Friday that the Biden administration had violated procedural laws and failed to see "several of the main benefits" of the Remain in Mexico policy, also known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).
In June, the Biden administration formally ended Trump's immigration policy, which required asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico as their cases awaited trial in the U.S.
Biden suspended the program on his first day in office.

Cuomo says he "never touched anyone inappropriately"
Source: CBS News
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday he "never touched anyone inappropriately" or "made inappropriate sexual advances," after an explosive state Attorney General's investigation found he sexually harassed multiple current and former staffers, as well as women who did not work for his administration.
"The facts are much different than what has been portrayed," Cuomo said in a speech at the governor's mansion.
"I am 63 years old. I have lived my entire adult life in public view. That is just not who I am, and that's not who I have ever been," he said.
Cuomo said he understands "there are generational and cultural perspectives that I have not fully appreciated" and said, "I have learned from this."

DeSantis challenger Nikki Fried says she does not support statewide mask mandate in Florid
Source: The Hill
Nikki Fried, the Florida state agriculture commissioner and one of the Democrats challenging Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) next year, on Monday said that she does not support a statewide mask mandate as the Florida emerges as the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S.
In an interview on CNNs New Day, Fried ruled out any state-level directive requiring Floridians to wear masks but said that the governor should empower local governments and school boards to make such decisions on their own.
Every county needs to make their own decisions, Fried said when asked whether she would support a statewide mask mandate. No statewide mask mandate, but I certainly would want every school board to have the power to make the right decisions for their own communities.
Fried, the only Democratic statewide elected official in Florida, also criticized DeSantis and the Republican-controlled state Legislature, which passed a bill earlier this year limiting local leaders authority to impose coronavirus-related restrictions.

Florida sets a record with 21,683 new COVID-19 cases reported Saturday, the CDC says
Source: The Miami Herald
Saturday, the state of Florida reported more new COVID-19 cases to the Centers for Disease Control than any previous day in the coronavirus pandemic, 21,683.
Thats a jump over the previous record, 19,334, on Jan. 7, during the worst month of the pandemic, when daily case counts were routinely topping 10,000. It was the second peak of the pandemic and in the months following cases returned to average levels of between 2,000 and 8,000 daily cases.
The late half of July is so far looking to be the start of Floridas third COVID-19 peak, as the case numbers reported Thursday (17,093), Friday (17,589) and Saturday mix in with Jan. 6-8 to comprise the top six individual case count days. The average over the last seven days is 15,818 cases.

Biden to allow eviction moratorium to expire Saturday
Source: Associated Press
BOSTON The Biden administration on Thursday announced it will allow a nationwide ban on evictions to expire Saturday, arguing that its hands are tied after the Supreme Court signaled it could only be extended until the end of the month.
The White House said President Joe Biden would have liked to have extended the federal eviction moratorium due to spread of the delta variant. Instead, Biden called on "Congress to extend the eviction moratorium to protect such vulnerable renters and their families without delay."
The moratorium was put in place put in place last September by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Given the recent spread of the Delta variant, including among those Americans both most likely to face evictions and lacking vaccinations, President Biden would have strongly supported a decision by the CDC to further extend this eviction moratorium to protect renters at this moment of heightened vulnerability, the White House said in a statement. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has made clear that this option is no longer available.
