Hundreds of thousands of Iranian demonstrators gathered to protest President Trump in Tehran on Friday, while celebrating the anniversary of the nation's 1979 Islamic Revolution.
According to Reuters, Iran's state television reported that the crowed gathered to pledge their allegiance to the clerical establishment in opposition to Trump's administration stating that U.S. put Iran "on notice."
"America and Trump cannot do a damn thing. We are ready to sacrifice our lives for our leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei]," an Iranian man told state television, according to the news source.
According to the report, the crowd chanted "Death to America" while carrying effigies an banners of Trump.

Craig Fugate quietly leaves FEMA post

WASHINGTON - Craig Fugate was never one to call attention to himself, so it's fitting that tenure as the nation's disaster response chief ended without fanfare.
Fugate resgined as FEMA administrator just before President Trump took office, a routine move for political appoinees. The acting head is Robert Fenton.
"I'm a Gator," Fugate told the Tampa Bay Times in 2011. "As soon as the president says I am done, I will be on the way back home as fast as I can get in my vehicle and crank the ignition."
Fugate ran the Florida Emergency Management Division from 2001 to 2009, a time known for a series of punishing hurricanes. President Obama appointed him in 2009 and by all accounts, Fugate ran FEMA well, even as Gov. Rick Scott sometimes complained about a lack of federal funds.

Hensarling looks to place consumer agency under Trump's control

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) is preparing a major overhaul to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that would place it squarely under President Trump’s authority, according to a memo.
Hensarling is overhauling his broad legislation to rework the Dodd-Frank financial reform law, putting place changes that would significantly curtail the CFPB’s powers and make it answer directly to the president.
According to a staff memo outlining changes to his legislation, Hensarling plans to replace prior calls to establish a bipartisan commission at the top of the CFPB. Instead, he wants to stick with the single director currently in place, but put that person directly under the president’s authority.
Republicans have called since the agency’s inception in 2010 for a bipartisan commission at its helm, but Hensarling now is pushing a change that would effectively allow Trump to dictate the direction of the CFPB for as long as he is in office.

Top US commander says he's short 'few thousand' troops in Afghanistan

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said Thursday that he is short “a few thousand” troops in the mission to train, advise and assist Afghan forces.
“I have adequate resources in my counterterrorism mission,” Gen. John Nicholson told the Senate Armed Service Committee. “In my train, advise and assist mission, however, we have a shortfall of a few thousand. This is in the NATO train, advise and assist mission, so it can come from America or its allies.”
Nicholson’s testimony before the committee is the first since President Trump’s inauguration, providing the first insight into how the new commander in chief might handle a war that received little attention on the campaign trail.
Right now, there are about 8,400 U.S. troops in Afghanistan on a dual mission of training, advising and assisting Afghan forces in their fight against the Taliban and conducting counterterrorism missions against groups such as al Qaeda. About 7,000 are dedicated to the NATO mission.

Labor unions press Trump to drop Puzder nomination

President Trump should withdraw Andrew Puzder’s nomination to lead the Labor Department, the AFL-CIO said Thursday in a letter obtained by The Hill.
The AFL-CIO, the nation’s largest labor organization, raised concerns about Puzder hiring a housekeeper who was an illegal immigrant — an issue that has also generated criticism of the Trump nominee from the right.
The letter was signed by 128 left-leaning organizations, including the AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Communications Workers of America, United Steelworkers (USW), Fight for $15, Good Jobs Nation, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
“The undersigned call on the Trump administration to withdraw the nomination of Mr. Puzder at once, and find a suitable nominee who shows proper respect for working people and our nation’s employment laws,” the letter reads.

Trump Finalizes Executive Order To Put ISIS Detainees in Guantnamo

The Trump administration is finalizing an executive order that effectively tells allies and Islamic State fighters alike: Guantánamo is open for business.
The imminent directive temporarily bars the transfer of any current detainees, and instructs the U.S. military to bring any new detainees — explicitly including ISIS militants — to Guantánamo, according to a draft of the executive order, which is expected as soon as this week. The draft directive was first released on Wednesday by The New York Times, and Foreign Policy independently confirmed the details with current and former officials.
But in a clear break from Trump’s controversial Jan. 27 executive order barring refugees and travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, which is currently facing court challenges, a number of officials at the Departments of Defense and State have viewed and weighed in on drafts of the Guantánamo directive, as recently as last Friday. Trump’s national security council, while holding the order close, has made changes in response, most notably dropping language ordering a review of whether the U.S. should bring back torture and reopen CIA “black sites.”
The new directive indicates a shift in U.S. counterterrorism strategy, with a renewed emphasis on capturing suspected terrorists for their intelligence value rather than killing them in targeted strikes. Observers and lawmakers say the botched Jan. 29 military raid in Yemen was motivated in part by an eagerness to capture new detainees to put in Cuba.

Top Obama official: Conway broke law by promoting Ivanka's clothing line

A former top official under President Obama is accusing White House counselor Kellyanne Conway of breaking the law by telling people to buy President Trump's daughter's clothing line in a TV interview.
Chris Lu, former deputy secretary of labor, on Thursday tweeted a screenshot of the federal ethics law he believes Conway was breaking.
"This is the federal ethics law that @KellyannePolls just violated," Lu tweeted, tagging the U.S. Office of Government Ethics and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

GOP senator: House Republicans' ObamaCare replacement plan a 'horrible idea'

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is criticizing the House GOP's proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act, labeling it as “a horrible idea.”
“If we load down the repeal discussion with what comes next, I think it’s going to make it a lot harder to get either one of them done,” Lee said during a briefing, as reported by Roll Call on Thursday.
“We need to repeal it first before deciding what comes next. I think there is a lot of agreement among Republicans in Congress with regard to the repeal bill. There is a lot less agreement on what comes next,” the lawmaker added.
House Republicans have mentioned several possible ObamaCare replacement policies to include in their repeal legislation.

Dakota Access pipeline restarts construction

The company behind the controversial Dakota Access oil pipeline has restarted construction in the disputed area around and under a North Dakota lake.
Energy Transfer Partners spokeswoman Vicki Granado said the developer started the Lake Oahe building immediately after it received the easement it needed for construction late Wednesday from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The 1.5-mile Lake Oahe section is the final portion of the pipeline to be built. Since the middle of last year, Energy Transfer ran into numerous delays, including from the Obama administration, environmental activists and the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.
The tribe had sued to to stop the project, saying that it violates their treaty rights and threatens the security of their water supply.
