So, if 1/6/2021 was a planned coup, how was it supposed to work?
Disrupting the EC vote counts seems to be pointless -- Congress would just pick it up again in a day or two. Destroying the ceremonial EC ballots would be equally pointless, since there are publicly available copies everywhere.
The only scenario I can see is where there was such bloodshed in the Capitol that Trump could get away with declaring martial law.
At the end of WWII, there were the Nuremburg Trials, but also the Marshall Plan.
We have to start thinking forward about how to put this country on a path toward some kind of decency. Neither an endless thirst for revenge nor fuzzy-wuzzy brainless forgiveness will get the job done.

Trump's last card to play is to declare martial law and suspend Presidential succession.
No one can know, probably not even him, if he will play it. The possibility is terrifying.
Vitally important the House submits Articles of Impeachment to the Senate ASAP.
You don't have any idea what's going to happen. You should already have the round chambered should you need it.
Impeach now. Don't bother to count Senate likely votes.
The votes may not be there now, but we need that round in the chamber to be ready for the next wretchedly insane thing he does.
So there's your coup.
With the Capitol building's security breached and Congress recessed, The EC votes can't be officially counted. Trump declares an emergency and invokes the Insurrection Act, the grounds being that Congress itself is under physical attack. Given the state of emergency, Trump petitions SCOTUS for an injunction allowing the Presidential transition to be delayed until the unrest is resolved.
