Larkin Poe: "Preachin' Blues" & "Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues"

Bob Seger’s wife showed him a clip of Larkin Poe playing this classic by Son House. He called them up and invited them to open for him on tour on the condition that they played it every night.

An original song from their new album:

Ocasio-Cortez Pushes Democrats to the Left, Whether They Like It or Not

WASHINGTON — Not so long ago, left-wing activists were dismissed as fringe or even kooky when they pressed for proposals to tax the superrich at 70 percent, to produce all of America’s power through renewable resources or to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Then along came Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — and her social-media megaphone.

In the two months since her election, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has had the uncanny ability for a first-term member of Congress to push the debate inside the Democratic Party sharply to the left, forcing party leaders and 2020 presidential candidates to grapple with issues that some might otherwise prefer to avoid.

Standing Rock inspired Ocasio-Cortez to run. That's the power of protest

It’s hard right now to remember how hot it was last August on the long sandy beach where the Colorado River meets the Green River in southern Utah. I was a few days into a rafting trip through Cataract Canyon with a bunch of young climate activists, and one of them, Will Munger, was telling me that since his months at the Standing Rock resistance camp, he had been encountering young Native people whose experiences at the protest site had encouraged them to dream of new possibilities and take actions that might otherwise have seemed out of reach.

Wandering back and forth along the edge of the water, we began to discuss how, often, the consequences of an uprising or a movement are not linear. Success and failure are often premature measures and oversimplifications; actions, interventions and conversations change beliefs and create new values, alliances and possibilities. We’d seen this dynamic from many unanticipated uprisings and movements: the indigenous movement Idle No More that began in Canada in 2012, Black Lives Matter, the feminist insurgencies since 2013 and the anti-gun movement in the hands of the Parkland youth.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Rockets Into Social Media Stardom

The youngest woman to ever serve in Congress, 29-year-old Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has zoomed into the social media stratosphere. She accounted for more Twitter interactions in a month than the top five media companies combined, according to CrowdTangle data, reports Axios.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is Singlehandedly Shifting the Overton Window

This weekend, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went on 60 Minutes and did more to shift the Overton Window left during her interview than nearly every single Democrat has done throughout the entirety of millennials’ existence on this planet.

The Overton Window is a term describing what is perceived to be politically possible. For example, before the 1980s, high marginal tax rates were the norm, and Ronald Reagan helped shift the mainstream discourse to the right. Now we are left with journalists like Anderson Cooper who believe that the marginal tax rates the United States enjoyed for most of the 20th century are “radical.”
