CO Democratic US Representatives that are strong general election candidates for statewide office.

1)Neguse- ran for statewide office(Secretary of State) in 2014(Republican Wave Year). Narrowly lost when every Democratic nominee for statewide office in CO except for Governor/Lt Governor lost. Udall narrowly lost re-election to his US Senate seat in 2014. CO has become a Democratic leaning state in 2018. Neguse’s US House District CO-2 has elected its representatives to statewide office.

Ben Cardin-MD and/or Bernie Sanders-VT.

Both of them are over 80 years old. Both of them were elected to the US Senate in 2006 after serving over a decade in the US House of Representatives.

Cardin’s US Senate successor is going to be John Sarbanes. Cardin’s US Senate predecessor Paul Sarbanes’ son.
Sander’s US Senatr successor is going to be Becca Ballint.

Democrats won the Governors Election by a 3.5 percent margin.
Democrats lost the US Senate Election by a 2 percent margin.
Democrats lost the Secretary of State Election by a 2.5 percent margin.
Democrats lost the Treasurer Election by a 5 percent margin.
Democrats lost the Attorney General Election by a 9 percent margin.

The 2 most recent CO US House Members in CO-2(Neguse and Polis) could end up in the US Senate.

Polis first served in the CO State Board of Education- At Large from 2001-2007. Polis then served in the US House of Representatives in CO-2 from 2009-2018 and then served as Governor of Colorado from 2019-2027. Polis has to leave the CO Governors office in 2027 due to term limits. Polis could run for and get elected to the US Senate in 2026 if the current incumbent US Senator Hickenlooper chooses not to seek re-election.
Neguse first served in the University of Colorado Board of Regents representing CO-2cd from 2009-2015. Neguse then served in the US House of Representatives in CO-2 since 2019. In 2026, Neguse ends up running for and getting elected to CO Governor succeeding Polis. Neguse could end up running for and getting elected to the US Senate in 2034 after serving 2 terms as Governor and if the other current incumbent US Senator Bennet chooses not to seek re-election.

CO US House Members likely to run for and get elected to statewide office in the near future.

Joe Neguse(D-CO2) and Jason Crow(D-CO6).

Neguse ran for statewide office(Secretary of State) in 2014(a Republican wave election year) and lost by a 2.5 percent margin. In 2014, Republicans won every statewide election in except for Governor. Hickenlooper won the 2014 CO Governor’s Election by a 4.5 percent margin.
Neguse got elected to the US House of Representatives from CO-2 in 2018 by a 27 percent margin when CO-2 was a +9D district. In 2020, Neguse won re-election by a 26 percent margin and in 2022, Neguse won re-election by a 42 percent margin. CO-2 is now a +17D district. During the last Congressional session, Neguse introduced the most bills. Two US House members introduced more bills than Neguse. (Eleanor Holmes Norton-DC who does not have voting power in Congress like the other 50 states and Carolyn Maloney-NY who is no longer in Congress.)

Crow ran for the US House of Representatives from CO-6 in 2018 by a 11 percent margin. Crow unseated a Republican incumbent Mike Coffman. CO-6 was a +2D district before the 2022 Redistricting. Crow won redistricting in 2020 by a 17 percent margin. CO-6 is now a +9D district. Crow won re-election in 2022 by a 23 percent margin.

Neguse has more political experience than Crow,Pettersen,and Caraveo.

Neguse served in the Board of Regents in the University of Colorado in CO-2 from 2009-2015.
Neguse served as Executive Director of the CO Department of Regulatory Agencies from 2015-2017.
Neguse has been a member of the US House of Representatives since 2019.

Neguse’s first elected office was in 2014 for CO Secretary of State. Neguse lost that race by a 2.36 percent margin. 2014 was a Republican wave election year. Republicans won every statewide election in CO in 2014 except for Governor/Lt Governor. Hickenlooper-D won the 2014 CO Governors Election by a 3.35 percent margin. Republicans won the 2014 Attorney Generals Election by a 9.05 percent margin, Secretary of State Election by a 2.36 percent margin , Treasurer Election by a 4.93 percent margin and US Senate Election by a 1.95 percent margin.
In 2018 and 2022, Democrats won every statewide election.
