Florida.

I could go to the Florida board with this, but it is important that it get posted here.

I have watched people rip Florida voters and whine about elections being un-winnable for Democrats there. I also heard that race is a huge factor in Florida's elections. The picture is somewhat more complicated than the simplistic stuff that I have been reading.

On race and elections:
About 8.1 million voters voted in the Governor's race. DeSantis beat Gillum by just over 33,000 votes. Gillum got just over 4 million votes. The entire African-Anerican population in Florida is around 3.6 million, men, women, underage children, babies. Gillum got millions of votes from non African-American voters. Potentially tens of thousands votes in a democratic stronghold were invalidated because people mailed them when the MAGAbomber struck, they sat in a post office with no postmark.

We elected a female Democrat as Agriculture Commisioner, a very prominent position in Florida. That is the first time in I don't know when that we got a democrat in that job.

Bill Nelson lost by just over 10,000 votes. If the Miami-Dade Mail situation had not taken place, or people had chosen to go and in person early vote or vote in person on Election Day in Miami-Dade, Gillum and Nelson very possibly would have won. A similar argument can be made against able bodied people mailing in votes when Florida had 11 days of early voting that included TWO Saturdays and TWO Sundays.

In Florida, we democrats need to get smart about making sure out votes get counted. We clearly have the numbers to win.

People outside of Florida. If you can't give constructive input, can you at least lay off the bashing?

College Football Playoffs is an insulting farce.

It should be a 16 team field, with 15 and 16 getting in via a 1 game playoff between ranked 15-18 and ranked 16-17. The top 4 teams should get a bye while 5-16 decide the second tier games. 1 rank gets weakest surviving team, 2 the next......

Most game can be played in existing bowls within the continental US, but 1 and 2 get their first opponent on their campus. All surviving teams get one week off around Christmas (needed a holiday marker, that was it).

The changes would make the process more interesting.

Look like the Dodgers have collapsed.

This seems to happen a lot. Barely win an emotional game that the team needed to win, then lose the next one in a tough way. The next game is basically mailed it. The Red Sox (ok, red sux to Yankees fans) are up 5-1 in Game 5 with all the momentum appearing to be with the Red Sox (back, to back, to back home runs over 4 innings), game now in the 7th with the Red Sox having some horses that they can bring out of the bullpen to close it out.

Just in person early voted.

Moved my schedule around a bit to vote around 10:30am. Actually had to stand in line, a first. One guy said that first day of early voting has a line. Voted straight Democratic Party candidates down the line. We have awesome people running this year in Florida. Voted against the two Rick Scott Judge retentions.

Two of Baseball's 4 bluest of Bluebloods will meet.

If you are a baseball purest, the coming series has to induce orgasms in you. Baseball has not seen this since the last time Reggie Jackson's New York Yankees met Tommy Lasorda's Hollywood Huggers in the World Series. The next remotely closest World Series was the 2004 Boston Red Sox versus the Saint Louise Cardinals (though Saint Louie is one of the 3 lesser bluebloods.).

Baseball's Four bluest of Bluebloods:
New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants.

The Three minor Bluebloods:
The Chicago Cubs, The Saint Louise Cardinals, The Pittsburgh Pirates.

Man oh man!!! Got to go change my shorts and take a shower. The coming stuff is going to bring lasting memories.

Did the fan interfere with Betts over the field?

After looking at several angles, I say yes, the fan did. Joe West got the call right. In the best photo that I saw, I could clearly see the fan leaning over the field and impeding Betts' glove as the ball was incoming. The fan subsequently not only closed Betts' glove, but prevented him from moving it rightward (standing at home plate looking out) to get to the ball with an open glove.

Question.

Has anyone seen a squirrel lick concrete. It is fall in Florida. I see a young squirrel out on my patio licking away at the concrete. I have no idea what it is after. Has anyone seen this before?

How to refer to some groups.

We liberals have a problem that rightists don't have. Rightists quickly settle on one description of us and every one on the right repeat that exact description. An example is the right calling us "socialists" because we believe that government can and should help people live a better, healthier, more productive life. There are other examples where EVERYONE on the right refer to us by only one description, and nothing gets in the way of them doing that, they repeat it often and in unison and at some point, it puts us on the defensive.

Our side by comparison becomes too clever and fail to refer to the right or to a rightish politician in the most accurate, most humiliating term. An example is congressman Jim Jordan, the most damaging description of him and the one that ridicule him while raising questions about his ethics is Gym Jordan, not Jim Jordan, or any other name. Yet, if a thread is done on him, I see 5 to 8 or more names for him, dammit, call him Gym Jordan in unision and people making tv appearances call him Gym Jordan. Insult him, get under his skin and let people know that he is an immoral creep. Another example is us using the term alt right, fuck that, call them the "racist right" in unision and dare a republican to associate with them. Racist right is the most accurate, demeaning term for them and it lets anyone that may be on the fence about them know what they are. The alt right should become the racist right, fuck how they feel about us calling them that.

Republican Bush to republican Trump.

The Republican Party is like global warming, some Americans are sounding the alarm, but many Americans are too self absorbed or hate filled to listen.

So, Bush gets elected and we think that was the worst storm that we ever saw. But the Republican Party kept rotting internally, and then along came Trump. Can we survive the next republican president? That person's party is becoming more and more unhinged, that seems to point toward the next republican being far worse than Trump (but maybe smarter and more self aware).

I don't know about you.

But I am enjoying the republican primary vote count situation in Kansas. If I get my wish, Colyer and Kobach meet in Topeka at noon on Aug 21 to mud wrestle to decide the winner.
