Hugh_Lebowski's JournalWearing my first-ever prescription glasses I just picked up ...
I've been using drug-store magnifiers (1.75X) for 6 years or so but finally decided to get my first-ever 'eye exam' (at 54 years old) and got a prescription.
These are the 3-level 'progressive' lenses ... cost me a friggin' bundle overall, even w/insurance. I got the 'indoor' kind so the very bottom are good for like really close, middle of lens is good for computing, and the top is good for like TV-distance.
I had better than 20/20 my whole life til I hit about 45 y.o., which was about 20 years into my programming career. Too many years of staring at screens finally took their toll I guess.
Anyways, these things are a trip.
dire straits - wild west end (studio-1978) one of the most perfect songs ever
a really good sounding version
the 'video' version which is not actually live, and doesn't sound as good as the above link, but it's fun to watch a really good lip-sync from mark and the boys. esp. fun is the guitarist pretending to play an acoustic guitar when he's actually playing electric
Jean-Luc has been here a whole 2 weeks and it's still like he doesn't trust me one bit!
I wanted to like my late aunt's cat, but I just don't know if it's cute enough ...
I just don't know about him ... he's a bit homely ...
He is also quite aloof and standoffish, I really can't tell if he likes me at all.
cate le bon - are you with me now (studio-2013) everything about this song and video is genius
Cate had recently lost her grandmother w/which she was very close (presumably to a smoking-related illness) ... is a bit of back-story and gives heft to the video itself.
But the melody & vocal hook, and especially the awesome guitar licks ... are also genius.
I just love this ...
beach bunny w. tegan and sara - cloud 9 (studio-2020) it's like if the go-go's also liked girls
and they rocked a tiny bit harder
EDIT: okay, weird ... there's another version of this song were the lyrics are 'when he loves me', 'when she loves me', and 'when they love me' ... in the three iterations of the chorus, but it's not the one in this video!
EDIT 2: okay, found it! I wasn't making it up
scissor sisters - take your mama out (live-brit awards-2005) if this doesn't put a smile on ur face
you just might be broken ... and you have my sympathies
then, outta nowhere ... somebody comes and hits you with an "ooh-la-la-la, ooh-la-la-la, ooooh!"
Even people who think all the best music is from the 60's and 70's will still dig this one
Barbequed Bone-In Turkey Breast is one of my favorite things to make ...
Something like this ... though I can't afford this top-shelf of product, just including this cause it's a good pic of what I'm talking about.

It's so easy, so good.
Unpackage, rinse, put in a deep aluminum pan, and use some balled foil to hold it upright. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with fresh chopped herbs (I love Thyme and/or Rosemary), or shove some sprigs under the skin.
What I do is put it on the Weber Kettle, indirect method with each basket about 2/3 full, plop the bird in the middle, and cook to 160F internal. Takes about 1.25-1.75 hours. I have a temp gauge that transmits to my phone and rings me when it hits 160F. That ... is an awesome tool, btw.
Oh, also, toss some wood chips in the baskets right before you close the top. Apple, Oak, and Mesquite all work great, and give the bird distinctive flavors (I guarantee you I could tell you if a bird was cooked with any of those 3 woods, and which one was used )
Then remove when it hits the temp, put foil over, and a towel, and let it sit for about 10 mins.
It comes out freaking awesome and you have delicious, lean turkey breast for sandwiches (WAAAAY better than lunch meat style turkey breast!), or to put on salads ... for about 5-6 servings. It's also STELLAR for making turkey soup. Can also make some gravy from the drippings but not a lot, it doesn't put out that much drippings in general.
Pic of one I made ...
van morrison - into the mystic - take 11 (studio-1970) slightly different take from the one you know
from the deluxe reissue of Moondance, and it's pretty damn cool I have to say.
