US rightwing conspiracy theory touts Taylor Swift as 'Pentagon asset'

Guardian link: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2024/jan/31/taylor-swift-travis-kelce-super-bowl-rightwing-conspiracy-biden

Taylor Swift is a “Pentagon asset”, an “election interference psyop” who, with unnamed left-leaning forces, has conspired to “rig” the Super Bowl and then endorse Joe Biden in the presidential election. That’s according to a raft of influential rightwing figures, who have begun to spread a conspiracy theory that Swift, a pop star, is part of a nefarious plot ahead of November’s presidential election.

Swift has found herself at the center of the rightwing commentariat’s attention in recent weeks after intense media focus on her relationship with Travis Kelce, a star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs football team.

She has been in the crowd as the Chiefs have progressed through the NFL playoffs: on Sunday, the team won the AFC Championship game, and will play in the Super Bowl on 11 February. The attention their romance has received has led to a number conspiracy theories.

“I think – and I’ve said this, I’ve taken a lot of crap for this online – I think they’re using Taylor Swift right now,” Jack Posobiec, an influential rightwing conspiracy theorist, said in a video posted on Truth Social on Monday. “They’re gearing up for an operation to use Taylor Swift in the election against everything: against Trump, for Biden, they’re gonna get her and all you know they call them the Swifties they’re going to turn those into voters, you watch.” Posobiec did not elaborate on who “they” are, but Roseanne Barr, the rightwing former actor who, for unexplained reasons, was also in the video, agreed.

OK let's all have a collective eye-roll over this lunacy.

Ready? One... two... three...

Next the RWNJs are going to say that if the Kansas City Chiefs actually win the Super Bowl (again) it's all because of Miss Sparkle Princess's Fairy Dust. Am I right?

Today's Tiedrich rant: holy shit, Taylor Swift has broken Donald Trump's worm-infested brain

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/holy-shit-taylor-swift-has-broken

Little Donny Fuckface has a lot on what’s left of his decaying mind.

he’s in a world of shit. he’s already on the hook for close to 90 million dollars for defaming the woman he raped. he’s got four concurrent criminal trials going on. he’s fighting to remain on the ballot in Colorado and Maine, while additional states mull dropping him from theirs. his gold-digging third wife hates his guts. and we may find out as early as today just how many hundreds of millions Judge Engoron will order him to fork over for being a lifelong business fraud and tax cheat.

which is why it’s super fucking satisfying to learn that he can still find the time to pitch a shit-fit about how a talented young woman who does actual good in this world is a thousand times more popular than he is.

Quote:
Last month, the source close to Trump adds, the ex-president commented to some confidants that it “obviously” made no sense that he was not named Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year — an honor that went to none other than Swift in December.

Donald Trump is for the first time in his pampered life facing serious financial ruin and possible jail time, and Taylor Swift’s popularity is what eats away at him.

It's a great rant that includes a multitude of praise for Ms. Swift along with insults for Chump and other MAGAs.

Faulty economic studies misled Pennsylvania lawmakers on petrochemicals: Report

The allegedly flawed studies raise “serious academic and ethical concerns.”

Source Environmental Health News link: https://www.ehn.org/shell-plastics-pennsylvania-economics-2667094641.html

PITTSBURGH — A pair of economic impact studies that were used to justify billions of dollars in tax breaks to bring a massive petrochemical complex to Pennsylvania used flawed methods and misled lawmakers, according to a new report. Shell Polymers Monaca, the company’s first Appalachian plastics plant that sits about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, began operations in November 2022. In 2012, Pennsylvania lawmakers offered Shell an “unlimited tax credit” to lure the company to the state in what was, at the time, one of the largest public subsidy packages ever awarded to a private company in the U.S.

The Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center estimated at the time that these subsidies would save Shell $1.65 billion over 25 years. Proponents said the deal would usher in a new wave of economic growth for the state—a promise that hasn't panned out so far.

A new report from the Ohio River Valley Institute, a nonprofit think tank, examines a 2014 study and a 2021 follow-up study that have been widely cited as justification for Shell’s massive subsidies from taxpayers. Shell commissioned and funded the studies, which were conducted by researchers at Robert Morris University (RMU), a private university in a Pittsburgh suburb with around 5,300 students.

In the 2021 analysis, RMU study authors estimated the Shell plant would bring massive gains, including nearly 12,000 new jobs and more than $70 billion in economic benefits to southwestern Pennsylvania over the lifespan of the project. However, the Ohio River Valley Institute says these estimates were based on inaccurate economic projection methods, a failure to incorporate external costs, non-standard timelines and a misclassification of the plant’s purpose.

Can someone please email this study to the Harrisburg legislators, who are all on extended leave until the end of March?

Today's Tiedrich rant: Republicans don't give a fuck about our troops

watch what they do, not what they say

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/republicans-dont-give-a-fuck-about-a64

on October 4, 2017, four US soldiers involved in special operations in Niger were ambushed and killed. how did Commander-in-Chief Dickface von Fuckstain react? he told the parents of the slain soldiers that “they knew what they signed up for” and then engeged in a petty twitter spat with a grieving widow.

then he went on TV to praise himself and brag about how he handled the situation better than Obama would have. he also disavowed any responsibility for the soldiers’ mission. not one Republican said a word about President Digrace’s callous actions.

in conversations with his chief of staff John Kelly, Trump referred to prisoners of war as “suckers” because “there is nothing in it for them,” and called soldiers killed in action “losers.” not a single Republican — not even one — criticized these remarks.

in 2019, the US Navy had to hide an entire fucking warship, the USS John S. McCain, because they knew that Commandant Bone Spurs would throw a shit-fit if he saw it. every Republican remained silent.

Tiedich continues with several more examples how Chump as president and post-president, disrespected our military and their many sacrifices to keep our country safe. The theme of this rant is that the Repukes DON'T CARE, they're all just fine with it. Meanwhile they've blocked bills in Congress for expanded healthcare for our combat veterans, and other beneficial programs, because they could.

Repukes have already shown how little they care about our veterans. Don't blow smoke up our asses NOW just to garner a few undeserved votes for Chump. Our military forces deserve better than that.

Pa. Supreme Court sets the stage to consider whether the state constitution protects abortion

Spotlight PA Link: https://www.spotlightpa.org/news/2024/01/pennsylvania-abortion-rights-supreme-court-constitution-guarantee-ruling-commonwealth-court/

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered a lower appellate court on Monday to reconsider a case that will determine whether Medicaid must cover abortions and that could have far-reaching implications in a post-Roe world.

Supporters and opponents of abortion access are closely watching this case, not only because of the Medicaid coverage question, but because some believe the justices could use it to set a precedent as to whether the Pennsylvania Constitution guarantees the right to abortion. The ruling did not resolve either question. However, in five separate opinions, the justices offered key insights into their thinking on the issue.

Adam Bonin, a Democratic attorney who frequently litigates cases before the state Supreme Court and is familiar with this one, said one of the most consequential pieces of information in the ruling is that a majority of justices agree that the Pennsylvania Constitution “strongly” protects against sex-based discrimination — something Commonwealth Court will now have to consider in its own ruling.

The justices also “strongly hinted that they will strike down this exclusion [of Medicaid paying for abortions] down the road,” Bonin said. However, the justices did not make a final decision.

Today's Tiedrich rant: Donald Trump is fucking fucked

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/donald-trump-is-fucking-fucked

hey, what’s 83.3 million dollars in debt and smells like an overripe diaper?

trick question! Little Donny Fuckface is way more than 83.3 mil in debt. Donald Trump is headed for a world of financial hurt. let’s all have a good laugh while we take a look.

right up top, there’s the eighty-mil-plus he was ordered to pay to E. Jean Carroll in the Yes You Fucking Well Raped Her trial. he wants to appeal it, naturally, but under New York State law, he can’t do shit until he first forks over a fuckload of money to the court.

Quote:
Yet the former president is still on the hook to pay something — possibly a sizable sum — while he waits. Mr. Trump can pay the $83.3 million to the court, which will hold the money while the appeal is pending. Or, Mr. Trump can try to secure a bond, which will save him from having to pay the full amount up front.

A bond might require him to pay a deposit and offer collateral, and would come with interest and fees. It would also require Mr. Trump to find a financial institution willing to lend him a large sum of money at a time when he is in significant legal jeopardy.

that’s on top of the the $5.5 million Donny Shitstain’s already paid in the first defamation settlement. imagine known fraudster Trump trying to find a banker dumb enough to lend him even five dollars at this point.

Bonus screenshot:

Tiedrich also makes it clear that E; Jean's win - as large as it is - pales in comparison to what New York's DA Tish James has in mind when the NY State tax fraud trial comes up next month. She's asking for a minimum penalty of $370 million from the Chump organization. It's already a sure thing that they're liable, so the question becomes "How much will it cost him?"

Good stuff, and a great rant.

Gov. Josh Shapiro proposes sweeping reform of Pa. state-funded higher education

Shapiro’s three-part plan calls for a cap of $1,000 per semester on the cost of tuition and fees at state-owned universities and community colleges for Pennsylvanians making $70,000 or less.

Gov. Josh Shapiro on Friday announced a blueprint to overhaul how Pennsylvania funds its colleges and universities to make attending a state-run or community college significantly more affordable. Shapiro’s pitch for sweeping changes to the higher education system is expected to be a signature part of the budget proposal he delivers to the General Assembly next month. The initiative received support Friday from Democrats, Republicans, and higher-education officials — all of whom are stakeholders he’ll need to get his pitch across the finish line and fix the state’s struggling system.

Pennsylvania spends less on higher education than every other state except New Hampshire. The long-term erosion of state support in Pennsylvania has increased the financial burden on students and institutions, resulting in tuition hikes, cuts in services, and the need to take on more debt, the governor’s office said.

Shapiro’s announcement Friday did not include how much these changes could cost the state, and many details of how it would be implemented were not immediately available. Full details of the plan will be released as part of his full budget pitch on Feb. 6. And as Pennsylvania approaches a fiscal cliff next year — with spending expected to outpace revenue — any major funding increases could be a sticking point in budget negotiations between Republicans, who control the state Senate, and the Democratic governor and Democratic-controlled House.

Part one of Shapiro’s three-part plan called for a cap of $1,000 per semester on tuition and fees at state-owned universities and community colleges for median-income Pennsylvanians making $70,000 or less. It would also increase Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency grants by $1,000 for all students attending state-related universities and independent colleges. PHEAA administers financial aid, and disbursed more than 103,000 grants to Pennsylvania college students in the 2021-22 academic year, according to the agency’s data.

This is a quantum leap for Pennsylvania - a significant boon for parents, students, and anyone who is currently priced out of the market for a college education. I'm so excited for our Pennsylvania residents.

Thank you Governor Shapiro!

Today's Tiedrich rant: Donny's having a big mad because Nikki won't let him be the Big Boy Candidate all by himself

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/donnys-having-a-big-mad-because-nikki

it’s not fair!
oh shit, the baby’s having a tantrum again.
Ronna said I could be the nominee!
fuck, where’s Donny’s binkie?
IT’S NOT FAIR! EVERYBODY LOVES ME! I’M THE WINNER AND NIKKI BIRDBRAIN IS THE LOSER!
no, Donny — don’t throw your diaper. no don’t — ugh. Jared, it’s your turn to clean it up.

Little Donny Shitbag is in the middle of a days-long freakout right now, because stupid old Nikki Haley won’t drop out of the race for GOP presidential nominee, and so he’s taken to his failing app to vomit out one angry all-caps rant after another.

Screenshot:

tell me again how women are too emotional to be president.

Screenshot:

fun fact: in 2020, Trump won New Hampshire with 85% of the vote. Nikki knocked that back to 54% in 2024. Trump is not invincible.

This continues as Tiedrich relays more crazy-quotes from Chump. It seems Nikki Haley has really got Chump worked into a snit, as we sometimes say in Pittsburgh. Also there's a photo of a sparsely attended rally in NH, less than half the seats were filled. Another clue as to why chump suddenly cancelled his rally out in Arizona next week.

Today's Tiedrich rant: Donald Trump is weak and stupid and also has six fingers on his freakishly tiny hands

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/donald-trump-is-weak-and-stupid-and

yes, Little Donny Diaperstain got more votes than Nikki Haley in New Hampshire last night but he also fucking lost, because he’s a loser, and losing is what losers do.

Donald Trump let a girl — a brown girl, at that — take almost half his votes, and that could be a sign of a coming disaster for him this November. of course, that’s not how Trump is spinning it.

Quote:
“you know, we won New Hampshire three times now, three. we won it every time. we win the primary, we win the generals.”

yeah, no. fact check: the email lady beat Trump in New Hampshire in 2016 and Biden whipped his ass there in 2020.

but that’s Donny’s whole thing: to bluff and bluster and try to convince us he’s something he’s not. Trump is the chickenshit coward draft dodger who pretends to have the courage to disarm a school shooter. he’s the illiterate C-minus student who pretends to be a genius. he’s the half-a-billion-inheriting nepo baby who pretends to be self-made. he’s the failed casino operator and game show host who pretends to be a success..... (Much more at link)

Awesome rant, and he gives you many quick rebuttals you can use on your Repuke buddies down at the American Legion.

About FakeNoose

Hey DU friends! Baby boomer here. I became a voter in 1972 when I turned 21, and I've been voting regularly ever since. For a long time I remained independent - always voting for Dem candidates. However that changed in 2008 when I wanted to vote for Hillary Clinton for President. But I live in Pennsylvania where we have closed elections, and my only chance to vote for Hillary was in the Dem primary. So I joined the Democratic Party in 2008, voted for Hillary, and I've never looked back. Barack Obama won the primary in Pennsylvania, as ell as most other states, and I supported him in the general election. It was a different story in 2016 .... You'll never convince me that Chump didn't CHEAT his way into the White House. The worst 4 years in the history of our country ensued, 2017 to 2020, and the first few days of 2021. We all lived through it and i don't need to explain it now. My goal is to make sure that Chump NEVER gets elected to ANYTHING again. Not even Dogcatcher of West Palm Beach FL. Whether he goes to prison is not up to me - but he must be CONVICTED of his crimes and PREVENTED from running for office again. Better yet - he should be in prison or six-feet-under. You get me? I love the cooperation, optimism and can-do spirit of Democratic Underground. We're a community of liberal-minded Americans and we know how to share our stories constructively and pro-actively. Let's all pitch in and get this job done. There has never been a more important election that right now, this year. Democrats everywhere MUST WIN. Joe Biden must win FOUR MORE YEARS!
