Dear Republicans,

October 4, 2018

Somewhere in America.....

a teenage girl is listening to her parents defend Brett Kavanaugh, and she is thinking to herself, "if something like that happened to me, I have nowhere to go".

Somewhere in America a teenage boy is listening as well, getting the message that “it’s ok, no one will listen to her anyway”.

Robert Reich weighs in on the SCOTUS debacle.....

"Each of the 4 Republican appointees to the Supreme Court have clouds of illegitimacy hanging over them:

1. Clarence Thomas: Not only Anita Hill’s highly-credible allegations of sexual harassment, but also Thomas’s repeatedly lies to the Senate Judiciary Committee about his views – for example, saying he had no opinions on the constitutional rights to contraception and abortion even though he had written four different articles saying that “Roe v. Wade” and “Griswold v. Connecticut” were wrongly decided.

2. John Roberts: He participated in the decision “Bush v. Gore,” the first and only time in American history when the Supreme Court determined the outcome of a presidential election. Yet Roberts had been appointed by George W. Bush -- raising ongoing questions about his political neutrality in that case and in future ones.

3. Samuel Alito: Ditto.

4. Neil Gorsuch: He became a Supreme Court Justice because Senate Republicans refused to hold hearings or a vote on Merrick Garland for 293 days, the longest pending Supreme Court nomination in American history. No one questioned Garland’s qualifications or even that he was a moderate. Never before had Senators held no hearing and no vote on a nominee because they hoped that their party would gain control of the presidency in the coming election.

If Kavanaugh gets on the Court, the majority of the Court will bear the tarnish of partisan illegitimacy, dividing America even further.

Your thoughts?"
