49th running of the Iditarod

The great race got started on Sunday but has many changes and challenges.

The main change is that the mushers will not go to Nome. Challenges includes mushers not being able to get to the race from other countries and some from the US could not drive across Canadian territories and had to fly instead.

This is a bucket list item for me. If I successfully relocate to AK, I wawanna have dogs and maybe breed for the race. I am too damned old to be in it but I can supply dogs and those guys are the real “champs”!

Hope to be in attendance at the starting line of the 50th running of the Iditarod next year!

DESHKA LANDING — As she sorted through items to add to her sled bag before Sunday’s start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, Mille Porsild expressed a common sentiment among mushers in this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

“I’m insanely thankful that this race is on,” she said.

Porsild, who placed 15th last year to earn Rookie of the Year honors, could have been speaking for all 46 mushers who left Deshka Landing on a brilliant, sunny afternoon for the start of a race unlike any other in the Iditarod’s 49-year history.

Let's all have an illegal smile for John Prine

This crosses forums (at least for me) so imma put it in the Lounge. John Prine succumbed to Covid 19 in 2020. God rest his soul. Or dog. Your choice.

I will introduce another fav, too, that isn’t John Prine but is ABOUT John Prine. By Kacey Musgraves.

RIP John Prine.

Now I'm seeing Nordic Runes?

Yesterday I was at a Marina in Seattle. There is a Windemere real estate business on property.

The logo stood out because I had seen the CPAC stage earlier in the morning. Wish I could post a pic but here is a link. It definitely has all the characteristics but is shaped a little backwards.

Caught my eye!

https://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/news/2018/04/25/windermere-real-estate-set-to-launch-new-logo.html

And here is an article from Slate where the “CPAC Organizer Vehemently Denies Stage Was Designed to Look Like Nazi Symbol”

Edited to change title of OP.
Did not intend to imply anything about Windermere’s intentions. The change to OP title should indicate this. Nuff said.

Two useful recipe links

Recently came across these two sites. Haven’t used a recipe yet but making a shopping list for next week.

One is a budget food blog. Well done and has meal prep info. Budgetbytes.com

https://www.budgetbytes.com/

The other is a link to yeprecipes’ “index” page.
User friendly! Great pictures. Clean, clean site. So tired of scrolling through blog for a mile to get to the recipe I just googled! So easy! Lots of ethnic cuisines too.

Today is National Margarita Day!

And margarita Monday!

I happen to have the fixings! And headed to the kitchen to get the shaker going.

I’m quite beat from the day’s work so maybe the drink will act like a muscle relaxer.

Cheers! 🍹🧂🍈

Jimmy Buffett’s Parrot Head Margarita recipe

To make the Parrot Head margarita: In a cocktail shaker, add 1 ½ oz. reposado tequila, ½ oz. triple sec, and one wedge each of lemon, lime and orange. Muddle together, add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a margarita glass filled with ice and add a splash of lemon-lime soda. For an extra kick, finish with a floater of orange liqueur (preferably Grand Marnier).

Wawannabe's making the move to AK in 2021!

When I joined in 2017, I was planning a solo move to WA.

Welp, I’ve got the itch to try AK. Have visited and want to retire there - so now is the time before I get too old.

AKwannabe is ONE of the first steps to the planning and implementation of a long held dream. The DU community saw me through my move and subsequent years in WA. Thank you all. Now hoping DU will help see me through this move. It’s a vast network and one never knows when they will need a friend or a hand up!

I have a tiny tiny network in AK from my ten day visit in 2018. I emailed a lady I met this morning. Coolworks.com
Will help with a seasonal position and let me start looking for a forever home.

Still love WA! And will visit friends here often but the pioneer woman in me calls herself to get to AK before it’s too late!

AK locals! Would like to here from you regarding employment opps in your area or rentals. Any info you deem helpful. TIA

Grateful for DU. 🙏

If there's a "Pineapple Express " headed for the PNW

Then I wawanna it to bring some macadamia nuts and Kona coffee with it, too!

Looks like we are headed for another soaker and avalanche danger too.

Had to snicker at Kim and Kanye news

Who woulda seen that coming???? Lol!

(CNN reporting Kim files for the big D)

I don’t follow that “family drama” at all but Kanye is a fucking train wreck and in the news so much a person like me that doesn’t even watch tv much even knows their dirty laundry.
