Mutant X

About a decade later the worst 'Marvel' tv series aired..

21 Crazy Facts About The Forgotten Marvel Show, Mutant X

The world of the X-Men, filled with mutants with extraordinary powers, has been the cornerstone of the Marvel Comics universe for decades. With its varied characters and deep plotlines, the franchise has remained a favorite since its launch by the creative mind of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby back in 1963. Over the years, Marvel ran into some financially tough times and had to find a means to save its struggling company from bankruptcy. Since the company could not afford to create its own superhero films, they sold the rights to the X-Men characters to 20th Century Fox in 1994.

Since then, the X-Men have gained a new audience through numerous animated series and the launch of the live-action X-Men film franchise in 2000. After the debut of the series, Marvel Studios decided to partner with Tribune Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment to create its own world of mutant superhumans: Mutant X.

However, since its initial pitch and conception, the Mutant X TV series has been bombarded with numerous lawsuits and restrictions. Despite the drama, series creators developed their own unique world where humans had their DNA genetically modified after birth, resulting in 4 main categories of mutants.

Set in a format that tackled a new villain each week, Mutant X soon gained a unique fan base of its own outside of the Marvel world.

In the article, we will explore some of the untold secrets behind the Mutant X show - from the original concept of the show to the fans’ fight to bring back the series. ...

Interestingly enough ,though, Marvel had not turned its back on the series. Though the show did not contain any direct connections to the Marvel Universe, the comic book giant still considers it to be a part of its world. According to TVTropes, “Volume 5 of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z hardcovers, the Mutant X TV series takes place on Earth-704509, making it an Alternate Reality in the Marvel Multiverse.” ...

California secession movement was funded and directed by Russian intelligence agents

https://twitter.com/charliearchy/status/1553125259804643339

The California secession movement was backed by Russian intelligence as part of an effort to cause turmoil in the United States, according to a federal indictment unveiled on July 29, 2022. The California State flag flies beside a sign for its sister city Split outside City Hall, in Los Angeles, California on January 27, 2017. A campaign by Californians to secede from the rest of the country over Donald Trump's election is gaining steam with supporters given the green light to start collecting signatures for the measure to be put to a vote.

At a 2018 rally in Sacramento, hundreds of Californians called for a national divorce, citing "irreparable and irreconcilable differences."

"Ultimately, the best people to govern California are us Californians," Louis Marinelli, founder of the secessionist group Yes California, told The Script newspaper.

Marinelli, a right-wing activist who previously campaigned against LGBTQ rights, framed California nationhood in terms of competing values — and, at the time, said he'd had a change of heart on issues such as gay rights (his Twitter timeline, today, has reverted to largely conservative causes). In a country led by former President Donald Trump, this liberal bastion, he said, should not have to answer to reactionaries in Washington, DC.

It was a cause he cared so much about that he left his home in Yekaterinburg, some 1,000 miles outside Moscow, to fight for it.

"I enjoyed my life in Russia," Marinelli told The Sacramento Bee, "but something I care deeply about is California independence."

According to a federal indictment unveiled Friday, Russian intelligence officers also cared deeply about West Coast secession — as part of an effort to destabilize the United States. ...

First (and worst) of the Marvel Movies

https://twitter.com/inversedotcom/status/1550808443862323200

THIRTY YEARS AGO TODAY, WE GOT THE FIRST MAJOR SUPERHERO MOTION PICTURE IN AMERICAN THEATERS TO KICK OFF THE ’90S: CAPTAIN AMERICA

Technically, this film was released in the UK in 1990, but the U.S. didn’t get the theatrical release until two years later. Starring Matt Salinger (the son of author J.D. Salinger) as Steve Rogers, the film’s plot crams together Captain America’s World War II origin story against the Red Skull with a present-day story riddled with Mafia paranoia and a pro-environmentalist message.

Comic book fans will recall that the ’90s were not a kind decade for superhero movies. They were generally cheesy at best, bland at worst, and mixed with some bad writing and crappy visuals. Captain America may be the first Avenger, but this Captain America is a hallmark ’90s dumpster fire. We have a long way to go before we get to X-Men (2000) — let alone Captain America: The First Avenger.

Our opening scene takes place in Italy, where we see the creation of Captain America’s nemesis, the Red Skull.

The best show is German sci-fi thriller Dark, but The OA isn't far behind

https://twitter.com/CNET/status/1548672644488232961

The OA doesn't abide by any strict TV series formula either. The opening credits don't appear until 57 minutes into the show. It was written like an eight-hour film, with a novelistic approach. You don't meet some of the main characters until a third of the way through.

And season 2 is even better than the first. It becomes a noir detective story set in Silicon Valley, where kids, one of whom is played by Zendaya, are disappearing after competing in a VR game on an app. Shot with a more polished look, season 2 is slightly less bleak than the character drama of season 1. ...

The Polo Grounds

Wish I could have visited this place.....

"Baseball’s cheating history includes its most famous home run, the ‘Shot Heard ’Round the World’"

If you think the Houston Astros pulled off a feat with their sign-stealing en route to the 2017 World Series title, they’ve got nothing on the 1951 New York Giants. A highly similar scheme by the Giants not only sparked an amazing run to the National League pennant but also led to the most famous home run in baseball history: the “Shot Heard ’Round the World.”

Both teams used a “spy” in center field to steal the opposing catcher’s signals and relay them to the batter.

For the Astros, it was a center field camera feeding a monitor in the dugout.

For the 1951 Giants, it was a handheld telescope manned by a coach, who then pressed a buzzer that sounded in the bullpen. Both teams then signaled the pitch to the hitter — the Astros by banging a trash can, the Giants by having a player in the bullpen either toss a ball in the air or hold it still.

The Astros dominated their competition during the regular season, then won a pair of seven-game series against the Yankees and Dodgers to take the 2017 crown, winning eight of nine postseason games in their home park.

But the Giants were 7½ games out of first place on July 19, 1951, only six games above .500, when manager Leo Durocher called a team meeting to announce the new sign-stealing scheme. ...

Desperate for an edge, Durocher assigned third base coach Herman Franks to take Schenz’s portable telescope to Durocher’s clubhouse office, then located above center field at the Polo Grounds, the Giants’ home field. Durocher then had the Polo Grounds’ electrician, Abraham Chadwick, place an electric button in the office and run wires from the button to buzzers in the Giants’ bullpen and dugout, Prager discovered.

The telescope was powerful enough that Franks could easily see the opposing catcher’s signs — one finger for a fastball, two for a curveball or change-up. (Sliders and split-finger fastballs had not yet been invented.) Protective wire mesh was cut away from the glass window to remove an obstacle for the telescope, photos of the Polo Grounds show. ...

This must be where Leo Durocher had that telescope setup..
