A record number of LGBTQ candidates claim victory in another 'rainbow wave'

Source: NBC

A record number of LGBTQ candidates won their midterm races this year, creating what some advocates are calling yet another “rainbow wave.”

Many races are still too close or too early to call, but as of Thursday afternoon, at least 400 out LGBTQ candidates had won their elections, according to the LGBTQ Victory Fund, which supports queer people running for office. That number surpasses 2020’s record of 336 and 2018’s record of 244.

At least 1,065 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people ran for office this year, with 678 of them making it to the general election, the LGBTQ Victory Institute, the research arm of the Victory Fund, reported. With at least 400 wins so far, queer candidates will have a midterm success rate of at least 58%.

Of the over 1,000 queer candidates who ran for office this year, 89% are Democrats, according to the Victory Fund. This reflects LGBTQ voters more broadly: 84% supported Democrats, while 15% supported Republicans, according to an NBC News Exit Poll released Tuesday evening.

'Kill them': Arizona election workers face midterm threats

Source: Reuters

Nov 6 (Reuters) - Election workers in Arizona’s most fiercely contested county faced more than 100 violent threats and intimidating communications in the run-up to Tuesday’s midterms, most of them based on election conspiracy theories promoted by former President Donald Trump and his allies.

The harassment in Maricopa County included menacing emails and social media posts, threats to circulate personal information online and photographing employees arriving at work, according to nearly 1,600 pages of documents obtained by Reuters through a public records request for security records and correspondence related to threats and harassments against election workers.

Between July 11 and Aug. 22, the county election office documented at least 140 threats and other hostile communications, the records show. “You will all be executed,” said one. “Wire around their limbs and tied & dragged by a car,” wrote another.

The documents reveal the consequences of election conspiracy theories as voters nominated candidates in August to compete in the midterms. Many of the threats in Maricopa County, which helped propel President Joe Biden to victory over Trump in 2020, cited debunked claims around fake ballots, rigged voting machines and corrupt election officials.

Hopefully, the FBI will identify, arrest, and imprison, (for a very, very long time), all of these fascist terrorists who are threatening to harm election workers.

GOP State Senate candidate arrested and charged for sexually abusing young girl for years

Joel Koskan, a Republican running for the South Dakota State Senate, has been charged with felony child abuse after he allegedly groomed and raped a young family member for years, The New York Post reports.

The abuse of the young girl began in 2014 and continued for at least six years. He could also face counts of rape, sexual contact with a child under the age of 16 and aggravated incest-related child, according to a probable cause statement shared by the Mitchell Republic.

"The Senate hopeful began grooming the child when she was 12 years old by having her sit on his lap, kissing her and giving long hugs, according to the court docs," The Post's report stated. "The child thought the behavior was “‘normal things’ that families were supposed to do,” an investigator wrote in the document. She realized what Koskan was doing to her was abusive at a summer camp she attended at age 14 when counselors spoke about inappropriate physical contact with adults."

Koskan even reportedly installed a camera in the girls room so he could watch her from an app on his phone. The girl said he regularly touched her inappropriately and began forcing sexual intercourse when she turned 17.

Pro-choice protestors hold rally outside Sen. Kyrsten Sinema's office in Phoenix

Source: AZFamily KTVK/KPHO

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Several hundred protestors gathered outside Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s office in Phoenix on Monday night for a pro-choice rally. The crowd was chanting and holding signs outside the office near 32nd Street and Camelback Road around 7 p.m. “Hey hey! Ho ho! Sinema has got to go,” the crowd chanted.

Some were seen holding signs advocating for pro-choice and criticizing Sinema. Several signs read “bans off our bodies” and “I won’t stay quiet!” Several protestors spoke with Arizona’s Family about why the protest was held outside the senator’s office.

“We’re here to protest against Kyrsten Sinema because the people have put her in a position of power and she’s not going with the best interest of what we wanted her to do in the very first place. She made campaign promises that she never upheld because at the end of the day, there’s obviously money, politics that got involved. Essentially, we feel, she turned her back on all of us and we’re here to protest that today,” said one woman in attendance.

Monday’s protest was the latest in several rallies held by pro-choice supporters. A demonstration was held in Tempe on Sunday night, where a crowd marching down Mill Avenue and University Drive was pepper-sprayed by someone driving by. Tempe police say the pepper spray hit four people, and one had to be hospitalized.

Senator Sinema will definitely lose to an as yet un-named Democrat in the 2024 primaries.
