Vice presidential fact check: Daniel Dale selects his lie of the night

Vice presidential fact check: Daniel Dale selects his lie of the night
CNN News
Oct 8, 2020

Descriptive text for this episode:

Vice President Mike Pence echoed some of President Donald Trump's most common falsehoods and misleading statements during the lone vice presidential debate with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) -- though in a more restrained, neatly packaged way.

The Salt Lake City debate was a less chaotic affair when compared to September's first meeting between Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. But there were traces of that event in Pence's delivery of some of the same lines that the President often repeats.

Harris, too, made some claims that were misleading or lacked context, but those paled in comparison to the litany of statements from Pence that were either untrue or needed additional context.

Coronavirus and the Trump administration's response dominated the start of the debate and was referenced throughout, and the threat of the virus -- due to the plexiglass barriers separating each desk -- was apparent before either candidate spoke a word. The rivals also argued over economic recovery, the future of health care in America and the importance of tackling the climate crisis.

LOL, the biggest lie was his denial of his and Trump's lying. Pence, the squeaky-clean Christian, eh?

I'll bet they didn't leave a tip either.

Thirteen employees is a lot to quarantine for any restaurant. Let's hope they all test negative.

From the Star Tribune:

Minneapolis restaurant quarantines 13 who worked Trump event

The 13 work for Murray's Restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, which catered the fundraiser on Wednesday at the Lake Minnetonka home of Marty Davis, CEO of the quartz countertop manufacturer Cambria Co. LLC. About 40 contributors paid $200,000 a couple or $100,000 per person for the chance to meet the president and hear him speak.

"Our staff was there to work the party only and at no point did any staff come in close proximity to the president," the restaurant said in a statement. "Upon learning of the president's positive COVID-19 test, we immediately enacted a 14-day quarantine for all staff who worked the party. Additionally, each staff member who worked the party will be tested for COVID-19."

$200K is a lot to pay for a case of elite COVID-19!

Everything Trump touches either gets sick, goes to jail or dies.

This is a running total since the pandemic started. Our last story that ran in August had the total at 103. It is now 123 total workers.

Here's a good review of the overall COVID-19 situation in D.C., including cases in the White House complex:

DC reports highest single-day rise in coronavirus cases since June
By Peter Sullivan - 10/06/20 01:49 PM EDT

Read it here: https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/519832-dc-reports-highest-single-day-rise-in-coronavirus-cases-since-june

Excerpt:
Washington, D.C., reported 105 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, the highest daily total for the city since early June.

The spike comes amid an outbreak at the White House, raising questions about whether cases there are seeding the spread of the virus in the surrounding city. D.C. has been averaging about 40 new cases per day, according to the Covid Tracking Project.

A D.C. official said Tuesday that it is not clear whether the outbreak at the White House is the cause of the increase in cases.

The White House conducts its tests in a separate system that is not reported as part of D.C.’s results.

Please either remove the entire post or revise the OP headline to be factual.

Next, he'll say he only went to Walter Reed to inspect the facility.....

and this was just a test exercise. Part of his beautiful support for vets and all that......

There is no lie, no deception and no heap of bullshit that is beyond Donald Trump and his band of crooks.....

An Australian cartoonist said about tRump's illness.....

"Getting Covid is the most democratic thing Trump has ever done"

First Dog on the Moon
Mon 5 Oct 2020

See it here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/oct/05/getting-covid-is-the-most-democratic-thing-trump-has-ever-done

Best line, IMO from the cartoon:

"It doesn't matter if we laugh or cry, or if Trump dies. The fascism factory will extrude another just like him. And then another."

Sadly, I believe history has proven that statement to be true.

It was also a horrible example for Americans and especially our youth.

tRump has about as much credential as a role model as Falwell, Jr.

Can't seem to find an ID for her.

I'll bet someone has done a complete identification map for those seated at that event.

This partial one was pretty cool from a BBC article: https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-54401186

Those who have tested positive were seated in the first few rows of the packed event

Trump's Covid contact: Who he met and who's tested positive

Below is an excellent article that reviews Trump's travels and various people to whom he's been exposed over the past week or so:

Trump's Covid contact: Who he met and who's tested positive
BBC World News

Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-54386681

Excerpt:
It takes five days on average from the moment a person is infected for symptoms to start showing, but it can be much longer, so the World Health Organization advises a 14-day isolation period.

The peak infectious period for the virus is the day before symptoms appear and the two days after, although a large proportion of people never show any symptoms at all.

The White House says it has begun contact-tracing. Here is a look at some of the people we know Mr Trump has crossed paths with in the last week, starting with an event that is being investigated as a possible "super-spreader":

All he cares about is promoting brand-Trump and maintaining power to feed his ego.

State Laws on Authorized Poll Watchers & Voter Challenges

Best to get our info straight from the horse's mouth:

National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS)

State Laws on Authorized Poll Watchers & Voter Challenges

Link (to access PDF file): https://www.nass.org/resources/2018-election-information/Poll-Watchers-Voter-Challenges

Direct link to PDF: http://www.nass.org/sites/default/files/surveys/2020-01/state-laws-poll-watchers-challengers-Jan2020.pdf

Someone please correct me if I misunderstand but I believe "poll watcher" does not mean someone stationed at a voting place during voting, but instead means a person from each party appointed to observe counting of votes after poll closure.

I believe some states have laws that prohibit anyone from being at a voting location that is not a.) someone who is actively in the process of voting, or b.) an official poll worker.

For most states, those rules are spelled out in their laws that prohibit electioneering in or near voting locations:

State Laws on Electioneering Boundaries

See: https://www.nass.org/resources/2018-election-information/electioneering-boundaries

Direct link to PDF: http://www.nass.org/sites/default/files/surveys/2020-01/state-laws-polling-place-electioneering-Jan2020.pdf

Example (Alabama):
Except as electors are admitted to vote and persons to assist them as herein provided, and except for the judge of probate, the sheriff, or his or her deputy, the precinct election officials, and watchers, no person shall be permitted within 30 feet of the door of the building of the polling place.

It's increasingly obvious that tRump, his staff and his minions have no idea what a poll watcher really is.
