Doreen, I have to agree - if we continue the way we are now.
I've watched health care cost go up astronomically since the 50s/60s, when everything was handled in our doctor's office, then write them a check for $20 or $25 and go home. Now, just the paperwork makes my head spin. They've added layer after layer of companies involved in even the simplest procedures. That is what must come to an end, along with too much power and money going to insurance companies and major hospital chains.
This will be a very long fight because all those people profiting off health care will fight us at every step. If we can't stop it, as you say, average folks won't get health care and it will take an all out revolt or national strike to get it fixed.
I'm sure it would not work to force all those layers of companies to close up shop overnight, so a protracted transition period would be required. It seems to me that perhaps we should start with single-payer covering basic care for everyone, then gradually taking over the rest.
Like most things human, we've allowed this health care thing to get far too big and complex.

He will blame the UK Labour Party, EU/UK taxes, or Obama, or Hillary, or........(fill in the blank).
He'll have a shit fit when he goes there and sees fewer pictures of him on the walls. Some poor schmuck will be fired.
May be an indicator of his customary behavior in New York and other states.

Watching Mitch's history, if he thought he did something in the Senate that brought one single job to his state, any amount of dirty money would be moral and justified. He took tons of tobacco money for many years.

unless the cops discover some solid things from his cell phone use, his computer, and any social media contacts. For a wealthy loner guy with a gambling addiction and gun fantasies, a real estate holder and landlord, and a former employee both in government and private business, one could list hundreds of possible motives.
I'm afraid if the conclusion is highly political, it will be kept hidden and we'll never know.
PWB, the shame is their voices are not being heard...
by the public. Just like millions of others in our society suffering in many ways, their voices are not heard loud enough to enrage the public.
As long as we continue to have compliant news media and allow big money from corporations, massive lobbying, and the mega-rich's funds into politics, I'm afraid nothing will change. We need to find ways to amplify those voices!

Sorry to hear of your loss - walk with her memory every day! Lost my mom to colon cancer, even though she had good treatment at Vanderbilt. Hers was the aggressive kind unfortunately, that kept coming back.
We agree with you totally that there's no excuse for lack of proper care, as folks have in other civilized nations. We have a portion of our populace that don't give a damn about their fellow man - yet claim to be Christian. The best things we can do in your sister's memory is to donate to the Cancer Society and fight like hell to win back Congress.
One (of many) things that hurts very deeply for me is that Republican policies most often hurt those having the least-heard voices - the sick, the poor, the disabled, and our minorities. These simply are not good people in the GOP.
Batshit crazy psychopaths don't necessarily have a clear motive.
At least not one that would make any sense to you and I.
They are also very good at planning very complex, evil crimes without remorse.
