In what year do you think Single Payer will pass?

We all seem to agree that single payer will not pass this year. Some argue that support will slowly built up until it becomes a reality in the next years.

How many years are we talking about?
Will it be 2018? 2020? 2026? I don't expect you to be a Nostradamus. Just give me your approximate estimate on when the 60 votes will be there, please. Thank you.

New video of Bernie Sanders surfaces, warning against "astronomical" costs of 'Medicaid-for-All"

A new video shows Bernie Sanders being very honest about the huge cost of a Single Payer system he called "Medicaid for All".

Two days ago, Sanders saved the cost issue for a later date. I see why.

Vox, on how much taxation would be required to pay for Sanders' Medicare for All

One helpful frame of reference, however, is to look at Vermont's 2014 effort to build a single-payer system. The state ultimately estimated it would need to create an 11.5 payroll tax and a 9 percent income tax to finance a state-level, universal coverage plan. That plan also wasn't quite as generous as the one Sanders proposes.

My hunch — and it is just that; we need a lot more analysis from think tanks and the CBO to figure this out — is that the Sanders plan would need some revenue sources in the ballpark of what Vermont ultimately thought was necessary to finance its own single-payer plans.

White House rips Sanders's 'horrible' single-payer plan

Source: The Hill

The White House on Wednesday slammed the push by Senate Democrats for a single-payer health-care plan at the same time Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) announced his proposal, calling the plan "horrible."

"The president as well as the majority of the country know the single-payer system the Democrats are proposing is a horrible idea," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during the daily briefing.

"I can't think of anything worse than having government be more involved in your health care instead of less involved," she continued.

"The president is focused on looking at ways where government gets out of the way, people have more control over their own health care and looking at ways to fully repeal and replace [ObamaCare] will be a priority, but we want to move the system forward and make sure we ware in a place that's actually sustainable."

Jonathan Chait: Bernie Sanderss Bill Gets America Zero Percent Closer to Single Payer

Jonathan Chait writes today for the New York Magazine. Excerpt:

The bill does not contain any tax increases, leaving those to a separate piece of legislation. A nonspecific health-care plan that lacks a plausible financing system has accomplished approximately zero percent of the necessary work, as the Republicans discovered this year.

There is nothing in Sanders’s rhetoric that indicates he even recognizes the shape of the political problem. Instead he employs the classic populist technique of imagining the people as a whole standing united around an obvious solution, and only the machinations of an invidious elite can thwart them.

Manchin clarifies that he is 'skeptical' of single-payer system

Source: The Hill

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Tuesday clarified that he is "skeptical" of a single-payer health-care system, saying that he simply supports digging into the complex details of the idea to see if it has potential.

"I am skeptical that single-payer is the right solution, but I believe that the Senate should carefully consider all of the options through regular order so that we can fully understand the impacts of these ideas on both our people and our economy," Manchin said in a statement Tuesday.

The conservative Democrat, up for reelection in 2018, said his priority is finding a system that best addresses health-care issues affecting West Virginia, a state that is reeling from the opioid epidemic.

"In the next several weeks, my focus will be passing bipartisan legislation that stabilizes the market, prevents rates from going up, and ensures access to health care for West Virginians. Once we address the short-term stability of the market, we should look at all ideas to fix the long-term problems facing our health care system," he continued.

Pelosi declines to endorse Single Payer bill

Nancy Pelosi said she will not endorse Bernie Sanders' single payer bill:

"Right now, I’m protecting the Affordable Care Act," Pelosi told a small group of reporters at a meeting Tuesday in her Capitol Hill office. "None of these other things, whether it’s Bernie’s [bill], can really prevail unless we have the Affordable Care Act protected."

Steve Bannon speaks with President Donald Trump every two to three days

Source: Wall Street Journal

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon speaks with President Donald Trump every two to three days, he told a private lunchtime gathering Tuesday in Hong Kong, some three weeks after the adviser left his administration job.

Mr. Bannon said he most recently spoke with Mr. Trump the previous night for an hour, according to two people who attended the closed-door meeting with the former presidential adviser. The gathering, at a Grand Hyatt hotel restaurant, included a group of about 20 money managers.

Mr. Bannon wasnt immediately reachable for comment.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters on Monday that she thought Mr. Bannon had spoken with the president once since leaving his role in the administration.

Takeaways:
- John Kelly's enforcement skills are overrated by the media
- Trump is still a white supremacist
- Bannon supporters' contention that he is "better from the outside" were total bullshit, as he is still in the inside.
