RIYADH (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Sunday it was time for Iranian-backed militias and their Iranian advisers who helped Iraq defeat Islamic State to “go home” after a rare joint meeting with the leaders of Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
The United States is concerned that Iran, a Shi‘ite regional rival, will take advantage of gains against IS there and in Syria to expand the influence it gained after the U.S. invasion in 2003, something Sunni Arab states like Saudi Arabia also oppose.
“Iranian militias that are in Iraq, now that the fight against Daesh and ISIS is coming to a close, those militias need to go home. The foreign fighters in Iraq need to go home and allow the Iraqi people to regain control,” Tillerson said at a joint news conference with Saudi foreign minister Adel Jubeir.
Tens of thousands of Iraqis heeded a call to arms in 2014 after IS seized a third of the country’s territory, forming the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) which receive funding and training from Tehran and have been declared part of the Iraqi security apparatus.

Cops Taser 86-year-old unarmed black man for his own safety leaving him in intensive care

An 86-year-old unarmed black motorist in Kingstree was jolted with a Taser because the white police officer who stopped him expressed worry that the wandering dementia patient would be hit by a car.
Albert Chatfield remained hospitalized in intensive care Friday, four days after being injured during the confrontation in the small town two hours north of Charleston, family members said.
His loved ones and their attorney bemoaned the officer’s use of force as unconstitutional and unnecessary in corralling an elderly motorist who posed no threat to the police.
Chatfield suffered bleeding on his brain and a broken nose, family attorney Justin Bamberg of Orangeburg said. He was in a medically induced coma earlier this week, and when he awoke, he couldn’t speak properly. He only mumbled and cried.

More than 300,000 Rohingya refugee children 'outcast and desperate', Unicef says

Nearly 340,000 Rohingya children are living in squalid conditions in Bangladesh camps where they lack enough food, clean water and health care, the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) said on Friday.
Up to 12,000 more children join them every week, fleeing violence or hunger in Myanmar, often still traumatised by atrocities they witnessed, it said in a report “Outcast and Desperate”.
In all, almost 600,000 Rohingya refugees have left northern Rakhine state since 25 August when the UN says the Myanmar army began a campaign of “ethnic cleansing” following insurgent attacks.
“This isn’t going to be a short-term, it isn’t going to end anytime soon,” Simon Ingram, the report’s author and a Unicef official, told a news briefing.

Democrat Congresswoman Blames Sexual Assault On Women Who Appear Too Inviting

Every few weeks a random congressional representative will stumble out of the shadows of obscurity and make national headlines by saying something outrageously sexist, racist, or otherwise offensive its a tale as old as the 1st United States Congress.
Typically, its an old GOP congressman who will say something like [Black people] hate white people because white people are successful or perhaps theyll blame a white nationalist rally on a Obama sympathizer. However, this time, the wildly offensive comment was made by a Democratic congresswoman, who blamed victims of sexual assault on the actions of women.
In an interview with NBC5, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas weighed in on the Harvey Weinstein scandal by saying women could avoid sexual harassment if they wanted to by simply appearing less inviting.
I grew up in a time when it was as much the womans responsibility as it was a mans how you were dressed, what your behavior was, she said. Im from the old school that you can have behaviors that appear to be inviting. It can be interpreted as such.

I spent about 20 minutes asking myself if I should post this story; but then I realized that not posting would be precisely the thing a Republican would do. They love reporting on the screwups of our party, even making shit up out of thin air on many occasions, but when one of their own steps in it (a weekly--and in Trump's case daily!) occurrence, "Well, this is not the time to discuss ________." So damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!
ON EDIT: I am very much aware that the term "Democrat Party" is used as a slur by Republicans. (Remember Bob Dole talking about "Democrat Wars" in his 1976 debate with Mondale?) But, at the time I came across the story, I could find only two other websites carrying it: The Daily Caller, which is 100% right-wing, and Newsmax, which is 100% alt-right-wing. Mediaite, on the other hand, at least has some centrist writers (I'd estimate 40%).

Marc Faber: Thank God white people populated America, and not the blacks

Popular investor Marc Faber, author of the "Gloom Boom & Doom Report" newsletter, wrote in his most recent edition that he was glad the U.S. had been founded and ruled by white people rather than black people.
"And thank God white people populated America, and not the blacks. Otherwise, the US would look like Zimbabwe, which it might look like one day anyway, but at least America enjoyed 200 years in the economic and political sun under a white majority," Faber wrote in the newsletter, according to CNBC.
He added, "I am not a racist, but the reality — no matter how politically incorrect — needs to be spelled out."
Faber, known as "Dr. Doom," has been frequently featured on CNBC as a financial and stock market pundit, but the network has since said it will no longer book him for segments.
Faber resigned from the asset management company, Sprott, as an independent director of the board, effective immediately on Tuesday, CNBC reported.
