From January 22, 1973 to August 8, 1974 there wasn't a single living ex-President

I find this stat astounding, considering there are five right now (Carter, Clinton, W Bush, Obama, and Trump). How could this have happened? Has there ever been a period where this has happened before (besides the obvious time when George Washington was President)?

On the flip side, having five is a lot. Is that the record (or tied for the record)?

‘We Need a National Divorce’: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls for Republican States to Secede From the Union

“We need a national divorce,” Greene declared on Twitter. “We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government. Everyone I talk to says this. From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat’s traitorous America Last policies, we are done.”

The last time states seceded from the union, the direct result was the Civil War.

GOP polling shows Jim Justice could beat Joe Manchin in 2024 Senate race

Source: The Hill

New Republican polling shows that Gov. Jim Justice (R) stands the best chance to beat Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) in West Virginia’s 2024 Senate race.

Polling commissioned by the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) — a super PAC aligned with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) — and obtained by The Hill showed that in three hypothetical matchups between Manchin and several possible Republican challengers, Justice was the only GOP challenger listed who won more support than Manchin among likely registered voters polled.

The poll, conducted by The Tarrance Group and first reported by Politico, showed 52 percent of likely registered voters supporting Justice in the Senate race, compared to 42 percent who supported Manchin and another 5 percent who said they were undecided.

In a hypothetical matchup between Manchin and declared challenger Rep. Alex Mooney (R-W.Va.), Mooney received 40 percent support, while Manchin received 55 percent support and 5 percent said they were undecided.

Poll is likely skewed but nonetheless Justice would be a tough match.

'I Haven't Ruled Out Anything.' U.S. General Doesn't Eliminate Aliens As UFOs Mount

Source: Time

A U.S. fighter jet shot down a high-flying object above Lake Huron Sunday after it flew near a sensitive military site, the Pentagon said.

The shoot-down, which came on President Joe Biden’s order, is the latest in an unusual series of aerial incidents that began last week when a suspected Chinese spy balloon traversed the continental United States.

At 2:42 p.m. Eastern time, an F-16 launched a heat-seeking AIM-9X missile at an unidentified “object” flying at around 20,000 ft. above the Great Lake. It was the fourth time in eight days that the American military has been called upon to destroy a mysterious craft in midair, including three in the last three days.

Other than the first balloon, which China has acknowledged was theirs, the Pentagon doesn’t yet know what the objects are or where they came from. Asked directly, a senior military official did not rule out the possibility that their provenance could be extraterrestrial.

Super Bowl 57 final score: Chiefs top Eagles 38-35 thanks to late-game magic from Mahomes

Source: USA Today

On one leg, Patrick Mahomes finished the job. His reward, other than resting an oft-injured ankle this postseason, is a second Lombardi Trophy for the reigning NFL MVP.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl 57 on Sunday, the team’s second title in four seasons. A controversial holding penalty by Eagles cornerback James Bradberry gave the Chiefs a chance to run the clock down and kick a game-winning field goal with eight seconds left, which Harrison Butker nailed from 27 yards.

Mahomes finished 21 of 27 for 182 yards with three touchdowns. Kansas City scored a touchdown on its first three drives of the second half after trailing at halftime 24-14.

Was Bernie Sanders the only one wearing a mask at the SOTU?

I didn't see any others. Seems like a good idea, especially in a crowded room and being 81 years old.

What do the 1870 pins mean?

I saw a few Democrats wearing those pins, and was wondering what they mean. Can't think of anything that happened in 1870, but it was 5 years after the Civil War.

Kyrsten Sinema sits amidst Republicans as Biden shouts out some of her accomplishments

Source: AZ Central

Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema listened to President Joe Biden's State of the Union speech while sitting among her Republican colleagues and moderate Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin.

Sinema, I-Ariz., sat next to Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, in a section that also included Manchin, D-W.Va., and Sens. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Todd Young, R-Ind.; and Steve Daines, R-Mont.

During the primetime televised address to Congress, Biden referred to several legislative achievements throughout his speech that prominently involved Sinema, as well as Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz.

For example, Biden mentioned what he called the “once-in-a-generation” infrastructure law that Sinema helped broker with former Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio.
