Things that made you a liberal

Public schools?

Today I was thinking of a book read to us in the third grade in Maryland. I cannot remember the name of the book or the main character’s name. I have thought about the little girl in the book, and her family, for 51 years. Her parents were sharecroppers. She had to work in the fields alongside them. She had to move a lot. She could not attend school regularly. She loved school and hated missing it. I vividly remember her getting a dress made of sacks. In little girl world, a dress of one’s own is magic-world, so I am not surprised that I remember that.

The girl’s story was “cool,” although it was a few years before that word came into use among children. We were not made to feel sorry for her, but to walk in shoes and experience a bit if her life.

Our teacher, Mrs. Gambrell, was from North Carolina and I got the distinct impression she wanted her mostly Yankee students to know about Southern children.

Was Mrs. Gambrell, beautiful and cultured and a woman if her time, a secret Marxist? Likely not. But the book she read to us imprinted something in us. I never pass a field without thinking of the lives of children and families who work there.

In 8th grade, we read Roots in American history. In Georgia. With an African American teacher.

The repugs are right to fear the public schools, I think.

I get the feeling the Feds are sick and tired of crooks

Hillary's e-mails

So ... is it safe to conclude that the most powerful international spy ring in the world, motivated and desperate to defeat Hillary and her pro-sanctions platform, with the world’s most proficient hackers on their payroll, aimed their sights on Hillary and came up with absolutely zero?

Get a voter on board

My handyman of 35 years is anti-Trump. He figured out, even before the election, that Trump did not pay his contractors. He further dislikes him because the new tax code hurts his income. He has lost a lot of the write-offs. Has worked hard his entire life and lives in a trailer park. Hurts to think how much harder he has worked than I have, and is still working past 65.

Going to get forms to get his voting rights restored. God bless all y’all who voted to restore voting rights for convicted felons in Florida (he’s been clean 15 years and nary a traffic ticket since).

One voter at a time.

Michael Avenatti hinted at this story. New York Magazine is running with it.

Just watched Michelle Wolf on HBO Xfinity

Laughed like crazy. That is one weird and funny person.

Anyone who heard her bit about "not a nice lady" was definitely on notice.

Comedy is a feminist issue

I know many of you were offended by the WHCD comedy routine.

As an aging Baby Boomer, I have to tell you that I was very proud of this young woman last night. I'll try not to make this too cliche about obstacles and barriers, but what I saw is a woman who did a Don Rickles take down on the most vicious, inhumane mob and their media toadies that the WHCD has ever seen.

I hear my nieces about her age talk about women who have no fucks to give and there it was on full display. The generation with 80k in loans is not going to go for the "gentle ribbing" and "mutual respect" the old folks in the sycophant media are calling for today.

In 20 minutes she shamed them on Bear Sterns, Flint, me,too (Fox News is here ... cover your drinks), our lying Press Secretary who burns facts and wears it as eye shadow. It goes on and on.

Here was a woman Court Jester mocking and belittling the NAZIs and their enablers, without the slightest flinch of "I'm so sorry to be mean and crude."

One of the means of controlling girls when I was growing up was the "act like a lady" admonition. Any bad behavior and we were shamed as unladylike. Talking back was unladylike. Protesting was unladylike. Showing up the boys was totally unladylike.

I thought Michelle slapped them with her unladylikeness and shamed them with human values. (Our President is a pussy, he's broke and he's lousy in bed and by the way, why TF are you people sitting here when Flint still has dirty water?)

A milestone. Question her taste, but not her heart.

Not for nothing, she was mobbed by the young attendees to the WHCD after the speech. She's one of them.

Say what you will about Michelle Wolf

Every time I see Huckabee Sanders I will be hearing the Maybeline jingle in my head (maybe it's Maybeline/maybe it's lies)

When I see joe and Mika: it's the me, too that worked out for people

Some of her jokes have stayed with me and I've laughed a second and third time.
