If Dickens were alive today...

HoHoHo
If I hear one more person talking about the next decade as the roaring twenties I am going to scream...

Been there, done that, the results were shit...

‘’He was dour. Irascible. Tempestuous. He rarely smiled.
He rose to power by joining an existent right-wing political party.
His speeches and writings were incoherent ramblings.
Most everyone, even some in his inner circle questioned his mental state.
But due to his popularity and fear of retribution, they pretended not to notice.
They made him their leader.
Before long, he remade that political party in his own image.
It was nationalistic. Disrespectful of societal norms, regularly skirting the law. Racist. Sexist. Xenophobic. Belligerent. Constantly threatening their neighbours.
The party merged interests with religious leaders, captains of industry, like-minded media moguls. They all fawned over him and asked their followers to join with them for the “good of the nation.” Most did.
The party gave him unprecedented control. It became HIS party. Because no one dared stand up to him.
His followers adored him because he told them what they yearned to hear. And the economy was good, so why rock the boat?
The few party members who did criticize his policies were called unpatriotic, disloyal, even traitors. Some left the party rather than suffer the indignity of the cult-like wave that had swept over them.
He called upon his followers to do harm to those who dared oppose him.
And even THEN, the party remained silent. Fear had a firm grip on them all.
But that was nearly a century ago, in a far off land. That could never happen here.”

No silly, not Trump – Hitler. Heh.

Contender for Trump Trigger Tweet of the Year.

How to trigger Trump in a glorious wonder of editing 2019

https://twitter.com/PaulLidicul/status/1210683618953027584

I just RE-edited the Donald Trump cameo scene in "Home Alone 2" so that Justin Trudeau can put it BACK in - and really piss Trump off - and send that do-nothing LOSER son of his @DonaldJTrumpJr, into conniptions

(waaaaaaaaaaaait for it)

Pure Gold. Genius.

If we want political parties and not sects...

Tom Watson on the State of the Labour Party...

He counters by asking if I would have preferred him to stay quiet and betray his principles. “I was trying to stand up for pluralism. The Labour party only wins elections when it’s the broadest of churches. But there are some sections around Jeremy and the Unite group that live in a binary world of left and right, good and evil, us and them, in and out. You can’t run a two-party system without nuance and complexity, pluralism and respect for difference. Because ultimately you end up becoming a sect not a party.”

Emphasis mine
Exactly. This is not just about one party though. One can see the same polarisation and them and us in the Conservative movement and Trump is a master at it. Divide and conquer. Harrumph.

It's as though @realDonaldTrump is trying to establish that he's not mentally competent...

Based on Trumps tweets bollocks from last night Conway raises a very valid point. Good grief some of his tweets really do demonstrate a meltdown.

They really do know he is nuts! It is not very hard to discern!

Particularly LOVE the tweet of Trump thanking one user who tweeted a picture of a white Jesus Christ being welcomed as a refugee by the president.

Good frigging grief....

These right wing nutters are a tad concerning, what? It is not just Trump that lacks mental competency....

I wonder if it is Stockholm Syndrome...

One has to ponder if, in both our lands, swathes of our heartlands have succumbed to Stockholm Syndrome? It makes a certain kind of sense and could be a start of an explanation of why so many people, who struggle every day to make ends meet, vote against their own best interest at the ballot box, on a pretty consistent basis.

After all, as per Stockholm Syndrome, when you have been held hostage to mistreatment for a significant period of time, you begin to align with those who would abuse you and believe them when they say their abuse of you is for your own good. As a side effect of Stockholm Syndrome, the abused gradually don't believe or trust that a better situation could or does exist, and this is exactly what has been happening since Reagan and Thatcher. 40 years of a drip drip drip, of they do not deserve better/ that Conservative policies are for their own good, even if they cause them harm. It has worked so well that at this point they do not consider Conservative governance and policies as injurious to them when all evidence suggests the opposite.

It is as good an explanation as any for people who refuse to vote for release from such ruinous policies. Stockholm Syndrome 101?

Heh.

More Than Half Of Those Polled Now Want Trump To Be Removed From Office

In case you were wondering, support for Donald Trump‘s removal from office is now the highest it has ever been, according to a new poll from MSN:

Fifty-five per cent of those asked said they were in favor of the US president’s conviction by the Senate, a figure which has shot up from 48 per cent the week before.

Meanwhile, the number of people against Mr Trump’s removal has dropped to an all-time low, according to the MSN poll.

On Christmas Day, 40 per cent were opposed to the Senate voting to convict the president, who has been impeached over his dealings with Ukraine and an alleged subsequent attempt to obstruct congress.

The gap between the two views has become much wider since last week, when there was little to divide them (48 per cent in favour of Mr Trump's removal, 47 per cent against).

The percentage of respondents who neither supported nor opposed conviction also grew.

I reckon 60% will be the tipping point for some Republican senators to break the red line of defence of Trump? They are self serving chaps after all, just need to get there...
