Elections are on my mind, as we have one tomorrow. My election is important of course, but not nearly as important as yours next year, with reference to the stability of the world. The democratic deficit in both our countries is a very real thing and the right wing are playing fast and hard with our safety and security, alongside our mental wellbeing, and our structures of governance, for power and control. So, as the Democratic Primary is really heating up can I please implore you all that when the dust finally settles, everyone gets behind the chosen candidate, with a vigour of intent to unseat that awful man in the White House. However passionate you may be about your chosen preference, sitting 2020 out or going third party, would I think, be pretty unforgivable this time round?
Oh, and while we are at it could you please create such a blue wave across the land that this incarnation of the GOP ends up irrelevant for a at least a generation.

The GOP have been digging their own grave for a while now and here's hoping a blue wave tsunami of sense and democracy demolishes the GOP in 2020. Takes them out, buries them. Yay!! And then…
*Shudder*. They must get so severely spanked, over their awful undemocratic behaviour, that the current form of the GOP - the Russian State proxy that they are - can never ever be resurrected... and we all know that they will try their damnedest because they really do not like democracy. They will keep having a go until the consequences of continuing to do so are so severe that it is not longer in their own best interests. Having to continue to fight these battles is so exhausting for democracy, after all. We need a plan.

I think the author is being rather generous to the far right and their ‘genuine eschewing’ of Nazism, fascism and explicitly racial politics… I think they know that they had to move to a different strategy if they wanted greater success but that does not mean that underneath the ‘respectability’ veneer they are still not racist fuckers.
Other than that level of generosity to their current ‘belief system’ the premise behind this analysis makes sense… After all Farage is literally all over the airwaves with the election coming up. Mainstreaming far right nasty day after day. As Tommy Robison said in 2018 while addressing a crowd of thousands in London… ‘We couldn’t have done this 3 years ago. Part of me wants to say this is just an interwebs hard man talking bollocks... the other part of me knows that in this febrile atmosphere there may be something to this because now they have their 'guy' in the WH - they in no way want to give that up. Nazi's everywhere cannot believe their luck having Trump in charge and mainstreaming their far right hatred. They will do anything they can to keep the current status quo. At this point an examination of how quickly Hitler destroyed democratic norms in Germany is probably not a bad plan, with the violent reinforcement of power with the very specially evil brownshirts to give him the back up on the ground to ensure total obedience...
