My darlings I have to say I am confused in the Spring Contest how...

...there are more pictures than recs. If you have posted a pic but not recc'ed the OP please pop along and do the job!!!

The imperative is clear. This contest needs to be front and central because I am a control freak (sad but true) and I want everyone to see this glorious soul lifting display of beautiful talent.

Oh and as a nagging Ulster bint - you all need to chat this competition up. Peggy has done this in the Lounge but we need to go wider. The immediate response has been bloody marvellous but I really really want 30 original photo's if we can get them. We are so used to the competition opening up for a second picci and while it doubles our chances of winning, hurrah, it limits how we open up the group to new talent.

So kick and rec and spread the news. Loads of DUers have loads of talent and let us see it displayed

The Cruelty and Death is the whole point

‘This is mass murder’: COVID-19 deaths in US prisons have risen by 73 percent the past month

After months of warnings that the coronavirus pandemic has turned U.S. detention facilities into “ticking time bombs” and a “nightmare waiting to happen,” the New York Times reported Tuesday that deaths related to Covid-19 in prisons across the country have soared by 73% since mid-May.

“The number of prison inmates known to be infected has doubled during the past month to more than 68,000” while the national daily infection rate “has remained relatively flat,” according to data the Times has collected since the virus reached the U.S. “By now, the five largest known clusters of the virus in the United States are not at nursing homes or meatpacking plants, but inside correction institutions.”

Tell me again how the injustice system disproportionately jails black men, and tell me again how this virus disproportionately effects the black community and then tell me again how we hear nothing from the administration on this. They want them to die. They have no useful purpose in their society. Where have we see this before?

Those who control the narrative control the world

The conservatives are going to be in a world of hurt, because as my twin said to me tonight, while we were discussing the BLM protests and the UK governments desperate attempt to change the narrative from systemic racism to ‘save our statues’, ‘those who control the narrative control the world’ – which to be fair – twin competition aside – is a really good slogan for a t-shirt! She is not wrong (she rarely is) BUT there is a different narrative that these ‘leaders’ do not own, and it has cut through with the wider general public. While our leaders have press conferences and try and push the right-wing white is right bullshit strategy with their base, we have a new generation who knows how to work effectively with social media. To develop and distribute content to go viral in a way that 20 years ago we could never have imagined. A 17 year old girl posted the horror of George Floyds murder and changed the narrative with his last heartbeat. A largely right wing media, trolls and bots will do what they do. Our leaders will spout the shit that they will spout. However, they have yet to realise that they no longer control the narrative and if things go to the nefarious commie socialist liberal conspiracy plan (do I need a sarc tag?) they will no longer control the world! Huzzah!

Leading US Retirees 'Like Lambs to the Slaughter,' Trump Labor Dept. Quietly Offers Up 401k Plans to

Private Equity Vultures

With the American public's attention consumed by the Covid-19 pandemic and mass protests against police brutality, the U.S. Labor Department earlier this month quietly gave corporate sponsors of retirement plans something they've been agitating over for years: a government green light to invest workers' savings into funds managed by notoriously predatory private equity firms.

The move, announced on June 3 by Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia, allows large managers of 401(k) plans and individual retirement accounts (IRAs) to put workers' retirement savings into private equity investments that offer the possibility of huge returns—and devastating losses.
----------
Sirota wrote that thanks to the Labor Department's guidance, "private equity firms will now be allowed to access—and skim fees off of—the $9 trillion in 100 million workers' 401k plans and IRAs."

"Now that Trump's Labor Department has opened the floodgates," Sirota added, "a lot more money could end up flowing into these opaque deals, enriching private equity executives and their friends—while leaving workers' meager retirement savings even further depleted."

Emphasis mine

You know all those people who still supported Trump because their 401k's where doing really well... heh.
Corruption and outright thievery continues, how much else can they pack in until November. They are staggering in their grift.

In the end progressive will win out

You know what the protests over the last few weeks tell me? That in the last dying gasps of white power, as they have tried to wind back to the days of white supremacist worst excesses and as they have rolled back protections to the extent that the murder of black men is generally barely acknowledged in the conservative white community - eventually progress will win out. There is a reason why in 2020 the BLM movement is supported by such a diversity of communities in Generation Z. That is progress and however much the nasty racist wankers in charge try to stop this progress they will not win, even as right now they are fighting viciously to retain the status quo. Apart from anything they are going to die off as this generation start to take control of the levers of power. Yep. Progressive will win out.

Trump voter 'These people here are genuine Americans'

The BBC's Sophie Long visited the US state of Montana to hear what voters think of President Trump....'Fly over country where the genuine Americans live?!?!?!' Good grief, delusional thinking on a grand scale. Do you think they realise how racist they are?

This sign has so much shade I can't even

PERFECTION!
Oh, look the same people who shout ‘all lives matter’ tend to be the same people who think they own the access to women’s reproductive rights… SURPRISE! 👀

Keir Starmer: Four years ago today our friend Jo Cox was tragically murdered.

https://twitter.com/Keir_Starmer/status/1272791212135677952

Four years ago today our friend Jo Cox was tragically murdered.

But Jo’s legacy lives on.

Now more than ever, we see how right Jo was that we have “far more in common with each other than things that divide us.”

4 years. I can remember thinking that my head would explode with rage when this happened. I wrote a piece on a previous blog on that day, that said in part that after the hand wringing and condolences and the recognition that the UK does have a far right problem, nothing would change - I think we can see the way Boris revved up the 'statute protectors' far right wankers proved me right. Jo Cox's legacy is a powerful one and maybe 4 years later things are really going to change, maybe now enough people realise that to be right means taking power away from those who would divide and attack us, just so they can keep their delusions of Empire alive. We will see.

"TRUMP LOST THE ELECTION TODAY": Trumpers View Supreme Court Rulings as Betrayal.

https://twitter.com/varadmehta/status/1272532015292862464
The damage is incalculable’. That’s right. A whole bunch of conservatives saw Trump for what he was and didn’t care because he would deliver them the Supreme Court they’d dreamed of for years that would stop all this hippie dippie welfare state nonsense Obummer was determined to foist on their America.

https://twitter.com/marklevinshow/status/1272546345266659331
But it gets better. The Supreme Court has also announced what cases they *won’t* be ruling on, many of which include Second Amendment cases

Supreme Court decides not to hear big gun-rights cases, dealing blow to Second Amendment activists
[link:https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/15/supreme-court-will-not-hear-gun-cases-blow-to-2nd-amendment-backers.html?__source=twitter%7Cmain|]

The GOP and conservatives have used the Supreme Court as a rallying cry for voter turnout amongst their base for years. Now, when they are in most need of a new narrative to generate enthusiasm — especially in states where the GOP Senate is most at risk — they have found themselves abandoned by the very institution they sought to control even if it meant putting a traitor in the White House.
