The words came from someone who performs competitively in gymnastics....

Nuff said. She is indeed the Goat. And Piers Morgan and his ilk on both sides of the pond, yet again demonising the well being choices of young women of colour are demonstrably the Gammon.

You learn something new everyday...

Considering how anti-education and anti-analytical thinking they are they are certainly doing a good job on ensuring that normal thinking people understand the actions of them and their collaborators in trying to steal democracy.

As they desperately try and ignore the hearings, the majority sees what they are doing and understands exactly where on the anti-constitution pendulum they sit... conspiracy, treason, collusion, sedition, insurrection or any multiples of them that apply to all the Trump enabling traitors.

Tara Setmayer does not hold back in her response to day one of the 1/6 hearing...

She is sooooooo right. Everyone who still supports the GOP in any form is a racist. Pure and simple. All the elected representatives who still play down the insurrection are white supremacist, racist, nasty and treasonous.

Alabama is prosecuting a mom for taking prescribed medication while pregnant (cross post from GD)

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215667200

A 36-year-old Alabama woman is facing felony charges for filling a doctor’s prescription. Kim Blalock, a mother of six, suffers from severe back pain caused by degeneration of her spinal discs. “There are days that I can’t get up,” Blalock has said. Her condition worsened over the years following surgeries and car accidents. An orthopedist prescribed hydrocodone, an opiate pain killer, and she started using it occasionally when the pain became too much to handle. She stopped taking her prescription during her most recent pregnancy, but as her bump grew, the weight added pressure on her back, and the pain worsened. Midway through her third trimester, she couldn’t take it any more, and refilled her prescription. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy soon after, this past September. Out of caution, she told her doctor about medications she had taken during pregnancy – including the hydrocodone. That’s where the trouble started. After her son tested positive for hydrocodone, an investigation was launched. The state child services agency found no wrongdoing, but the local police and district attorney pressed on. Two months after she gave birth, seven armed officers raided her house, terrifying her children.
---
The case raises troubling questions. Since Blalock is being charged with a felony for not disclosing her pregnancy, does that mean that pregnant people in Alabama have an obligation to share such sensitive information – even when they haven’t been asked? Since prosecutors claim that it was illegal for Blalock to take her meds while pregnant, but was not illegal for her to take them when she wasn’t pregnant, does that suggest that pregnancy negates a patient’s right to medical treatment? Are some conditions worth treating in patients who aren’t pregnant, but somehow not worth treating in patients who are?
---
For many women, this will be the takeaway: don’t trust the doctor. When laws incentivize women to be dishonest with their medical providers, or forgo medical care entirely while pregnant, it’s not clear how those laws can be said to ensure the safety of a fetus. If anything, they seem to be discouraging the practices that lead to good pregnancy outcomes.

A reminder that the January 6 commission IS bipartisan...

If I was a certain republican type of law maker today I would shit myself about what is going to come out... Let the testimony commence.

Emphasis mine

Heh. It is never about the wellbeing of the foetus, it is always about controlling women's behaviour.
Just another way to punish grown women making grown up choices. Patriarchy always sucks, but the far right white supremacist bible belt patriarchy sucks the worst of all.

Matt Gaetz is terrified that the 'entire purpose' of Jan. 6 committee is to charge GOP lawmakers

"I think the entire purpose of the Jan. 6 committee is to create a series of criminal referrals to the Biden Justice Department," he insisted. "And I think [House Minority Leader] Kevin McCarthy is the lead target, unfortunately."

According to Gaetz, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi excluded one of the Republican Party's "best players" when she refused to allow Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) to participate in the committee.

Gaetz went on to call for McCarthy to remove Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) from their respective committees because they have accepted Pelosi's invitation to participate in the Jan. 6 committee.

"I really do believe that the end goal of the Jan. 6 committee is to create a series of criminal referrals," he said. "And remember during the Russia hoax, a lot of the criminal process occurred not as a result of any underlying federal criminal law but instead as a result of these process crimes."

Of course there is going to be exposure of process crimes... they committed them. Don't be insurrectionist enablers and be surprised at the consequences. Whining about it is just so snowflake.

To no surprise to anyone in NI...

Cummings has confirmed what we all know. The English nationalist vote leave gurus not only did they not give a toss about Northern Ireland, the Good Friday Agreement, peace and the Union, they had no understanding of the outcomes the shitness of their negotiations would wreak.

Cummings yesterday, in a twitter exchange with J O'B, making it really clear that they hold the people on the Island of Ireland and the peace that currently holds in utter contempt, just how far down the priority list peace is in Brexit Britain, is nonetheless, rather staggering. 👀

Even for the deviance and morality black hole that is the Johnson government this one takes the biscuit.

We have never lived in a one tier society...

Listening to the radio and the discussion has been about vaccine passports and using them as a tool to manage public health in enclosed and busy spaces. As in, if you want to go clubbing – prove you are fully vaccinated or no deal. Of course, the Anti-Vax crowd are losing what is left of their minds over this. Obvs their selfish right wing loon rights are more important that the rights of the vulnerable who cannot get vaccinated for health. Or of the Nurses and Doctors who have to deal with the fall out of wave after wave. Never mind them – they have seen a you tube video and world order, 5G, Nazis and end times, or something. And now these very selfish people are being told choices have consequences. You can choose not to get vaccinated and society can choose not to let you access shared spaces.

Anyway, the anti-vax crowd are outraged, claiming the very idea of vaccine passports would create a two-tier system in society. As it was pointed out on the radio this morning, when have we ever lived in a one tier society? There are multiple layers in any society, of course there are. How much wealth you have creates access to privileged spaces. Hell, there are golf clubs if you are black the idea of being able to purchase membership is almost laughable. There are gentleman’s clubs where women are not allowed join. Of course, the people who are now losing their privileged wigs over the vaccine passport are the same people who have benefited mostly from the white patriarchal privilege reinforced by the multi-tier system in which we all reside. This should just be one more tier, right? This is an even better tier than the vast majority we have in society. This one is for the benefit of the community and quite frankly the idiots that would cheer comparing doctors and nurses to nazi war criminals are not welcome in polite society anyway. We need to make sure they have a special tier all too themselves, well away from the rest of us.
