Devin Nunes is down a whopping 27 points from 2016

Trump attack dog Devin Nunes is down a whopping 27 points from 2016

Running interference for Trump on Russia may cost Devin Nunes his seat.

SNIP
And now Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), who easily won re-election by 35 points in 2016, is down to just an eight-point lead over his Democratic challenger, Andrew Janz.

In a new Public Policy Polling survey, paid for by Democratic political action committee End Citizens United, 49 percent of voters support Nunes, compared to 41 percent who support Janz.

Typically, an eight-point advantage is a comfortable margin. But compared to 2016, this means Nunes’ level of support has already plummeted by an astonishing 27 points in less than two years.

And given the massive scale of the campaign his challenger is running, Nunes’ support could easily drop even further in the more than four months between now and November.

Janz, a violent crimes prosecutor, has raised about four times more cash than all of Nunes’ previous Democratic challengers between 2002 and 2016 put together, according to the Fresno Bee.

Those seven previous challenges only raised $650,000 between them — but Janz’s campaign war chest is an amazing $2.5 million.
That might be the most of any House challenger in the country this election cycle

New data breach may have exposed personal information of almost every American adult

A little-known Florida company may have exposed the personal data of nearly every American adult, according to a new report.

Exactis data leak reportedly contained detailed information on 230 million consumers

Wired reported Wednesday that Exactis, a Palm Coast, Fla.-based marketing and data-aggregation company, had exposed a database containing almost 2 terabytes of data, containing nearly 340 million individual records, on a public server.
That included records of 230 million consumers and 110 million businesses.

While the database apparently does not include credit-card numbers or Social Security numbers, it does include phone numbers, email and postal addresses as well as more than 400 personal characteristics, such as whether a person is a smoker, if they own a dog or cat, their religion and a multitude of personal interests.
Even though no financial information was included, the breadth of personal data could make it possible to profile individuals or help scammers steal identities.

Troia told Wired that he was easily able to access the database on the internet, and in theory, plenty of other people could have too. He said he warned Exactis and the FBI about the vulnerability, and the data is no longer publicly accessible.

On its website, Exactis said it maintained 3.5 billion consumer, business and digital records, including “demographic, geographic, firmographic, lifestyle, interests, CPG, automotive, and behavioral data.” The company said it has data on 218 million individuals and 110 million U.S. households.

There are about 325 million residents in the U.S., with about 244 million adults and 126 million households, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Exactis did not immediately respond when asked to confirm the breach.

While technically not a breach, Facebook Inc. FB, +0.06% said in March that most of its 2 billion users had their personal data “improperly shared” without their permission, including about 87 million profiles that were scraped by Cambridge Analytica.

Exactis 'conveniently' left the window open .

We've seen this 'convenient' data theft before.

The last paragraph listing Mercer's “policy wishlist”

THIS WILL PISS YOU OFF
https://gizmodo.com/machine-learning-president-designers-have-no-idea-how-t-1827120746/amp?__twitter_impression=true

When a group of about 40 players first tested out a live game called the Machine Learning President at a private event in San Francisco this February, they were unaware that the game would end up memorialized in the pages of The New Yorker.

But during a ski vacation in March, the Republican mega-donor Rebekah Mercer gathered her friends together to play several rounds of the game, which pits special interest groups, political candidates, and activist organizations against each other in a simulated presidential election, aided by cash and artificial intelligence.

A lawyer for Mercer told The New Yorker that she owned a copy of the Machine Learning President but had not created it and that it did not reflect her family’s views.

It’s not hard to draw comparisons between the rules of the game, with its reliance on big cash and tech capabilities, and the actions of the Mercer-backed Cambridge Analytica during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
But, as Mercer’s lawyer stated, she had nothing to do with creating the game—in fact, it was conceptualized by one of her vocal critics.

"Brett Horvath and Berit Anderson are the co-founders of Scout AI and the creators of the Machine Learning President."
In 2017, the pair published a scathing critique of Cambridge Analytica, the now-shuttered political consultancy that misused the data of tens of millions of Facebook users and sat at the center of the social network’s largest scandal in years.

“By leveraging automated emotional manipulation alongside swarms of bots, Facebook dark posts, A/B testing, and fake news networks, a company called Cambridge Analytica has activated an invisible machine that preys on the personalities of individual voters to create large shifts in public opinion,” the duo wrote.

That invisible machine—and the lack of preparedness for it in the 2016 election—provided inspiration for the Machine Learning President.
