GOP memo urges anti-China assault over coronavirus

GOP memo urges anti-China assault over coronavirus
The Senate Republican campaign arm distributed the 57-page strategy document to candidates.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has sent campaigns a detailed, 57-page memo authored by a top Republican strategist advising GOP candidates to address the coronavirus crisis by aggressively attacking China.

The memo includes advice on everything from how to tie Democratic candidates to the Chinese government to how to deal with accusations of racism. It stresses three main lines of assault: That China caused the virus “by covering it up,” that Democrats are “soft on China,” and that Republicans will “push for sanctions on China for its role in spreading this pandemic.”

I fail to see how this strategy works with anyone other than Trump's hardcore base?

Biden campaign should just play this video embedded in this article in response to them blaming China.

Just thinking out loud -How did we go from Harvard/Princeton educated

president and First Lady to a president that muses about injecting disinfectant and First Lady that posed nude?

How did we get here? How did we reject education in lieu of crack pot theories?

Before we got to the point of the American president becoming a laughing stock of the world by suggesting people may be able to inject disinfectant - education and science somehow - became a dirty bad thing. How? To the point where our elected officials parrot the most insane conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories have always been around, but for the most part - many people laughed at them. Now they have been elevated to a point of "serious discussion" by some.

What happened? I remember in the early days of the internet when Alex Jones was just some weirdo with a weirdo following. If you had told me 15-20 years ago that he would "rise to prominence", I would have said you hit your head.
Who? The guy with the crazy website going on about chemtrails? Him?
How did so many people come to trust him over education and scientific driven data?

How did Sen Kennedy - after attending the most prestigious universities in the world from Vanderbilt to Oxford. Does it get more elite than Oxford? then turn around to the people at a Trump Rally to tell them he was one of them and rant about about goat milk latte drinking avocado toast eating "elite"?

I was always told by my parents, reading was important, education was important - even though I came from a religious family with their own nutty beliefs, but they always pushed education. My parents pushed for me to go to the library on Saturdays when I was a young girl, even when I did not want to and preferred staying home to watch Saturday morning cartoons. Of course - back then we did not have a thousand distractions of the internet, video games etc. Reading was always a thing in my house.

I remember, back then, and maybe it was where I grew up, you grew up in a home with limited income - whether you were black or white - education and knowledge was pushed.
Now believing in science, data, facts, expertise is an elite thing?
When did this happen?
How did we get to a place where Anthony Fauci can be dismissed and people prefer to get facts from the likes of Limbaugh and other talk radio.?

Some guy on a talk radio show asked the host if we could get chemicals in our lungs with a vape pen to cure covid 19, the host told him he was thinking out of the box.

This is a headline from an article on the Atlantic last year

Republicans Changed Their Mind About Higher Education Really Quickly
A majority of them no longer think campuses are setting the country on the right course. What happened?

Back in the day, when we did not have the internet, we had the encyclopedia - lol - I remember my dad having a payment plan for the encyclopedia. OK, I am rambling, so I will end here. But my point is, back then when you wanted to know something - you looked to people and resources that had knowledge about the thing you wanted to know about. College was higher education - to me meant it elevated your ability to think critically, educate yourself - not just for a career - but made you a more well rounded person- with the ability to dissect and think through problems.

By the way - this thread is not a promotion that says everyone needs to go to college. The contrary, my dad was a blue collar worker - and financially - my parents will probably be better off financially than I will ever be.

And I am quite aware that even formally educated people have bought into nonsense- I am just a loss sometimes as to how we got here - People believing the most insane things - no ability to critically think through these things to realize its stupidity.

Just wondering out loud.

I just want to express my appreciation for our democratic governors and mayors

I just watched the Governor of Nevada on Anderson Cooper, not only was he making sense when he talked about the science, facts and data that needed to be followed before re-opening, he got emotional speaking about his constituents that he spoke to that lost loved ones to covid 19, people who were not allowed to be with a dying loved one.

Contrast that to the stupid republican mayor pushing for reopening that actually said that she wanted her constituents to be a control group to see what happens. Good gawd woman! So you really want to experiment with people's lives.

Our governors and mayors have been phenomenal in these trying times. Thank you all for serving your country with honor. It is good to know that you all care about the lives of the people and not just profit.

What is more important than living? Funny how when its an actual human and not a fetus

there are other things more important than living. People might think its hyperbolic to call these people death cults but shit like this just reaffirms that the plan is to sacrifice lives for their stock portfolios.

[link:https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/texas-lt-gov-dan-patrick-reopening-economy-more-important-things-n1188911|

Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick doubled down on controversial comments he has made about the coronavirus pandemic, telling Fox News on Monday that Americans had to "take some risks" in reopening the economy.

Patrick was heavily criticized last month after he suggested in an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson that he and other senior citizens might be willing to die to save the economy. He stood by his statements in a new interview with Carlson on Monday night, saying, "We are crushing the economy."

"And what I said when I was with you that night, there are more important things than living. And that's saving this country for my children and my grandchildren and saving this country for all of us," Patrick said Monday night.

He went on to say that he didn't want to die but that "we've got to take some risks and get back in the game and get this country back up and running."

Be Strong, Be Kind. Imagine if we had Jacinda Ardern as our president

Bit of a read at but its worth it to click the link to see how a true leader is handling this crisis

Coronavirus: How New Zealand relied on science and empathy

Health before the economy
New Zealand is of course a small nation - its population is smaller than New York City's - and it is remote with easily sealable borders, which all played in its favour when the virus broke out.
But its relative success - it has among the lowest cases per capita in the world - has mainly been attributed to the clarity of the message coming from the government.

Unlike the countries that declared "war on Covid-19", the government's message was that of a country coming together. It urged people to "Unite Against Covid-19". Ms Ardern has repeatedly called the country "our team of five million".

"Jacinda [Ardern] is a brilliant communicator and an empathetic leader," says Prof Michael Baker from Otago University's Public Health Department, who helped advise the government on its response. "But what she's said also made sense and I think people really trusted that. There's been a high level of compliance."
For a pandemic response to be effective, he says, "science and leadership have to go together". ( What a novel idea! )

Be strong, be kind'
But similar to the time of the mass shootings in Christchurch, it's her leadership style that's caught particular global attention.
While telling the public in detail the rules of the lockdown and the trajectory of the new cases, Ms Ardern has also focused on kindness.
She has ended almost all her public appearances with the same message: "Be Strong. Be Kind".

How does one social distance while getting a manicure or haircut?

I have always enjoyed my monthly mani/pedi. It was always my little treat to myself. I won't be going near one for the foreseeable future. Brian Kemp seems to think its possible to social distance while getting your hair or nails done?

Don't fall for the bright shiny object! He's trying to change the subject

This is what he does when he is in trouble, Resorts to some absurd, usually racist thing to get people talking about something else. I hope the media ignores his tweet about immigration and continues to hold his feet to the fire about his failure to react sooner to the virus to protect us.

Lets not have several days of discussion about this immigration tweet.

His recent polling #s are showing that people are disgusted with his ineptitude.
His response - throw a bomb in the middle of it while giving red meat to his base.

We already knew the racist trumpists see this as a black disease they

don't have to worry about. Here's an example.

How Trump Turned the Pandemic Into Identity Politics
Forget the people dying. Forget the economic collapse. Trump, Republicans, and Conservatism Inc. have turned COVID-19 into just another front of the culture war.

At the protest in Brookfield, one man explained that it was time to reopen the state because the coronavirus was limited to urban areas. “This isn’t common throughout the state. It’s common in Milwaukee. It’s common in Madison. Lock them down. I don’t need to be locked down.”

A similar sentiment was expressed in an email to the editor of Right Wisconsin (a publication I used to edit.). A man from Iron River, a town in northern Wisconsin, wrote:

THE AFRICAN AMERICAN IN THE WOODPILE (notice how politically correct i am) Am i the only one who has noticed where most covid 19 cases and deaths have occurred? every large city with a black or minority population. why is this. Are rural americans supposed to give up our rights and freedoms to support the slums? i’m more worried about bubonic plague in the homeles s population. give us a break and start treating
rural and urban populations differently. i am from a county with no covid deaths. opens us up. [Sic throughout, obviously
.]

Anecdotal story re:antiretroviral meds for HIV as treatment for Covid19

So a few days ago, a family member started telling me he was feeling really sick. He said it was the worst he had ever felt in life. Fatigue, chills, body aches, minor cough. He recently relocated to this area so has not had time to establish care with a PCP. I went to check on him and took his temp, no fever. Checked it again in the days following and he never developed a fever.

He continued to tell me he just felt awful. I was thinking he could possibly have covid 19 so I started to look into how to get him tested. After making some calls, I was told his symptoms were not severe enough for testing. He should just stay home.

Anyhoo, I remembered reading articles regarding HIV meds being tested as a possible treatment.

He takes Truvada as prophylaxis to prevent HIV. I asked him if he was still taking it, he said he had not taken it in a few days because he ran out of it and he was waiting for it to come in the mail.
So 2 days later he gets his Truvada and resumes taking it. Over the next 2 days, he said he was feeling better. Still had body aches -but not as intense.
Now, mind you he never got tested so I do not know for a fact that he has covid 19.

So now I am feeling like crap. Despite taking utmost care, wearing gloves when I took his temp. It seems now I have been infected with
whatever he has, whether just flu or covid 19.

I have body aches, barely slept last night because of a throbbing headache all night. Today I have taken 800 mg of Ibuprofen and 500 mg of extra strength tylenol and I still feel achy, with a minor sore throat and my head still throbs.
Also last night I had what I thought were the most vivid, weird nightmares I have ever had. Now I am wondering if my temp spiked last night and I was having fever dreams or hallucinating.

I just took my temp. It is 99.5 - using a temporal thermometer -they tend to read lower than oral temp by 0.5-1. So my temp is probably 100-100.5. This is after taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen earlier today so I don't know if it was higher earlier before taking meds.

I am not promoting the use of this drug. I understand that testing is still being done and there have been mixed reviews.
Bottomline, I just find it interesting that he never developed a temp and is feeling better after resuming taking Truvada

Again, neither I or my family member have been tested. So I can't say for a fact that we have covid 19.
