Old Crank
Old Crank's JournalChurch visit in Bologna today,
In January we visited the same church, Saint Mary, Maria, de Vita. We went to see the famous terracotta pieces showing the famous Marys reactions to the death of Jesus. Life size work and very expressive especially contrasted with the two men also in the scene.
This time we saw another similar work by the same artist from about the same time that turns out to be antisemitic. The death of the virgin Mary. Both works are in the Catholic church and Oratory. This piece shows a Jewish man who has been forced to the ground by an angel. He was stopped from tipping over her death bed. The 12 Apostles look on. The description of the work is at the other end of the Oratory. This is from around 1622. A long history of antisemitism.
Sorry, no pictures until I get home. The work is on the web if you want to see them. Under statues and church name.
Short cooking class
I was told that we are going to Italy for my wife's birthday. It is this week. Not far from home since we are in Munich. A sweetener for the horrors to befall me will be a day cooking class in Bologna. Rissotto, pasta, and gnocci. The danger comes when I come home and keep making these things..... Hopefully I'll get better pasta than the shoe leather ravioli I made with my first attempt years ago.
It should be interesting.
Fall of 2019
Phone pictures from Schloss Nymphenburg, Munich. These are from the English style garden behind the castle. It was a bit colder earlier than this year.
Surgery on our dog
Cisco blew out an ACL a week ago. So 2 days ago he had reconstructive surgery. The things they can do these days.
He had a decent walk tonight. Still hopping on one hind leg but enjoying the smells on all the favorite places in the area. Next week the stiches come out and Physical therapy begins.
Plus teh old dog, 14, has learned a new trick. how to remove the cone of shame...
From Saint Peter, Sankt Petre, tower
I finaly, only took 8 years, climbed the tower of St. Peter in Munich. Have to do it again and bring my camera and on a better day. Good look at the other towers from a slighty higher vantage point.
Stairway, loooking up or down?
Over the roof towards the Holy Ghost church. Tower on the left is the old Rathaus

First frost
The tree is steamed about it... The tree was happy with the extra long warm weather.
What does this say about the border wall the GOP wants
along the Mexican border?
this little clip from the Guardian a couple of days ago.
"And in the space of a few hours, a wall and fence system costing billions of dollars to build, and designed to prevent being tunnelled under, equipped with a vast array of cameras and motion sensors, had been well and truly breached."
Billions in cost. Is the GOP willing to raise taxes to build similar???
Whole article.

There is a carriage museum in Schloss Nymphenburg, Munich. This is the way to get around in style. With your horses dress appropriately of course.
Time to start thinking about your winter travel means also. After all you have snowy acreage in the lower 400.
Your steeds.
Just for around town
