Because he is as compromised as Trump is. Different situation, same reason. He needs someone who is as compromised as he is to save his ass on the Supreme Court. Trouble is, we now know what Trump had on Brett....there should be no doubt why this gang-banger was promoted to the Supreme Court.

150 years ago, back in the early 1970s.....
I drank too much, smoked too much dope, and did various drugs to excess. Occasionally, I would be just enough drunk/high/off-the planet to make a move on some young charming lady who I was convinced was totally in love with me. We just hadn't realized it to this moment. When those moments occurred and the inevitable rejection happened, I was like "OK, OK,OK...sorry!". I never tried to persuade after the message was delivered loud and clear.
So what's Kavanaugh's excuse? I had a similar upbringing/education/privilege....but my limbic system (or basic functional decency) seemed to function OK.
I am probably not a good candidate for SCOTUS either.

If he had admitted that the aid to Puerto Rico was too little and too late, at least he'd have shown something approaching responsibility. But no, he had to take his administration's disastrous response and amplify it with such an obvious 5 star, easily documented lie. I hope the Carolina
s don't experience the same level of success that Trump defined for Puerto Rico. 3000 US people died on 9/11 and 3000 US citizens died on his watch in PR....pretty bad optics that should peel a few more voters off the Trump wagon.
I think Mattis and Kelly are telling Trump lies about what they told Woodward.
A simple reason...they know Trump would fire them in a second if they said they did tell Woodward these quotes. I think they are a firewall to keep Trump in check while Mueller continues to build his case. Woodward will not release any tapes that contradict what Mattis and Kelly actually told Trump because all 3 are actively trying to limit Trumps options on further destroying this country.
