A question for those of you in South Carolina.

I've been offered a teaching position at a university in the Myrtle Beach area. I've done a fair amount of research on the area, but wanted to get some opinions from those of you who live there. And yes I know it's a deep red state.

How often do you update software?

Every now and then I realize I'm still using some ten and twenty-year-old software: word processing and spreadsheets, image processing, 3D modeling and drafting, and so on. And my current computer is on Windows 7. It all still works fine, so I don't see any reason to upgrade and therefore just don't think of it.

So, just out of curiosity, how many of you still use "old" software?

Need an app to display numbers

I'm looking for a "simple" app or program that can be used to display large numbers on a computer. Imagine someone on TV or a movie typing something like "60 million years ago" and the screen displays "60 million." Something like that. The numbers should be fairly large and ideally scroll back.

This is a for a student film about a scientist who invents a time machine.

Weird thought while driving yesterday.

The U-turn sign has the U upside down, and it kinda looks like the aortic arch. Shouldn't the turn be called the aortic turn?

Are guns a generational thing?

I'm sure there are lots of opinions online about this, but I wanted to see how DUers feel about it.

Do you think the interest in guns is going to fade out as older generations die out and younger ones "take over" (for lack of a better word)?

Sure it also has to do with the part of the country, but, in general, what do you think?

Any South Carolina folks here?

Someone's who really likes the area has been trying to talk me into relocating there. Small town inland.

Any thoughts? I did some research online but looking for comments from folks who live there.

Any thoughts on long-distance movers?

I'm considering a move from the West Coast to the East Coast and looking for a reputable mover. Any suggestions based on actual experience?

All this indignation by magats about the indictments...

I dunno... it almost sounds like "Oh, shit, that could be me."

Of course, they can't say that, so they have to make it sound like indignation.

Fuck em all.

Any good, concise, objective material on the Durham report?

There's a heckuva lot online, so where to start?

I know that there was criticism of the FBI and how they approached it vs. their Hilary investigation. I also know that the report said "the FBI should not have" opened the investigation. That "should" sounds very fishy.

I'm also curious as to how Faux Noise reported on it vs. other outlets. Faux wants you to allow ads, which I will not do.

What do you do when you're really really pissed?

Nothing to do with politics here, but I'm major galaxy-class pissed off about a situation I really can't do anything about and looking for ideas as to how to "chill out" and not let it get to me as much as it is. Yes it affects me and my work.

Not looking for advice - just for what some of you have actually done in similar situations. How to feel about it and not let it get to me.
