Air traffic controllers from Atlantic Canada directed a fleet of special arrivals into the New York Air Traffic Control Centre on Friday night, as a gesture of solidarity and respect.

And each was covered in a layer of gooey melted cheese.

The Canadian Air Traffic Controller Association units in Gander, N.L., and Moncton, N.B., ordered pizzas for all of their colleagues at the control centre on Long Island, who have been working without pay since the partial U.S. government shutdown began on Dec. 22.

"It's been so overwhelmingly negative and it's nice to see that there's solidarity out there. There's people out there who are just saying, 'Hey, I work with you as a friend or a colleague and here's a nice gesture of friendship, that we care,'" said David Lombardo, a former air traffic controller who lives in Lon

A concerted, Canada-wide pizza delivery
The pizza-delivering task force from the Gander and Moncton crews is part of a national effort on behalf of Canadian air traffic controllers to show support for their American counterparts, said Peter Duffey, president of the Canadian Air Traffic Control Association (CATCA).

Duffey said local unions have been asking the national union what they could do to help since the U.S. government shutdown began. On Thursday evening, controllers in Edmonton had the idea to send pizzas across the border to controllers in Alaska.

It snowballed from there. As of Sunday morning, Canadian units have sent pizzas to 35 different units in the U.S.

"This is as grassroots as it gets, with our members just jumping on board this like crazy," he said. "I couldn't be more proud of what my members are doing."

Jason Alexander

I awake today perplexed by anyone, anyone, who believes that Donald J. Trump wakes today with concern for any single one of them.

I shook hands with Sen. Lindsay Graham several years ago when we met backstage at a talk show. He seemed an affable, decent man. He remains, I’m sure, occasionally affable.

Washington State Wants to Stop Theft of Mile 420 and Mile 69 Signs. Solution? Mile 419.9. Mile 68.9

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/12/us/washington-highway-sign-420.html?action=click&module=News&pgtype=Homepage

The Washington State Department of Transportation has a problem that just won’t go away.

For years, people have persistently stolen those green and white mile markers posted along the highway. The most popular signs to pilfer are Mile 420, a popular number among marijuana enthusiasts, and Mile, ahem, 69. (If you don’t know that one by now, we can’t help you.)

“They will typically go and take those more than anything,” said Trevor McCain, who specializes in driver information signs at the Transportation Department. “They have special meanings to some people.”

So the sign aficionados in Washington had to get creative. In hot spots for sign theft, they’ve simply moved the highway marker back one-tenth of a mile and tweaked the sign to say Mile 419.9. Or Mile 68.9.

"No one believes a word out of his mouth," Thomas Friedman said of the president.

Three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman didn’t hold back on his scathing criticism of Donald Trump on Friday, calling him a “disturbed” president who lies so often that “no one trusts this man.”

If we face a crisis with a president who no one believes who’s surrounded by a C-team in a dysfunctional  White House, then God save us,” Friedman told Wolf Blitzer on CNN.

"I find China, frankly, in many ways, to be far more honorable than Cryin' Chuck and Nancy." Trump

Asked an unrelated question on the White House South Lawn on Thursday, Trump volunteered a comparison between Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) — and the leaders of the People’s Republic of China.

“I find China, frankly, in many ways, to be far more honorable than Cryin’ Chuck and Nancy. I really do,” he said. “I think that China is actually much easier to deal with than the opposition party.”

China, honorable?

China, which is holding a million members of religious minorities in concentration camps for “reeducation” by force?

2016 Trump is asked how he will get Mexico to pay for wall

https://twitter.com/wolfblitzer/status/1083782128880574469

At a Republican presidential debate in 2016, I asked @realDonaldTrump: "If you don't get an actual check from the Mexican government for $8 billion or $10 billion or $12 billion, whatever it will cost, how are you going to make them pay for the wall?" Here's his response:

Blindfolded Utah Teen Crashes Car Doing The 'Bird Box' Challenge

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/utah-teen-crash-bird-box-challenge_us_5c3908cae4b01c93e009e011

Layton Police spokesman Lt. Travis Lyman told CBS News that a 17-year-old girl was driving with a 16-year-old passenger at the time of the crash.

The “Bird Box” challenge, which has gone viral on social media, is inspired by the Netflix movie “Bird Box,” starring Sandra Bullock. In the movie, characters have to move about the outside world wearing blindfolds to avoid looking at an unseen monster that forces people to kill themselves.

In the viral challenge, participants attempt to do ordinary things while blindfolded, which, again, is dangerous for obvious reasons
