Hidden camera catches Beaverton woman who left 'hate-filled' notes on neighbor's car for 2 yrs plus

Hidden camera catches Beaverton woman who left ‘hate-filled’ notes on neighbor’s car for more than 2 years, lawsuit alleges

The paper messages were bagged and taped to the woman’s car or her partner’s car while parked overnight at their condominium complex, beginning in December 2019, she said.

“I always have to look over my shoulder at who is watching us,” said the woman, who isn’t identified in court papers and requested anonymity due to fears of retaliation. “Nobody has any right to cause such emotional distress for a long time.”

The woman, 62, said she believes she was targeted because she is Japanese and her partner is Latino.

The messages appeared sporadically in 2020 and 2021, the woman said in a phone interview, before turning up with alarming frequency this year, when 14 of the 21 notes appeared. Five of the messages were left this month, as recently as April 15, she said.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reviewed copies of the notes, as well as a spreadsheet created by the woman tracking the alleged harassment. The notes wrongly refer to the woman’s partner as her son and frequently refer to him using homophobic slurs. Another message calls the woman an unintelligent member of her race.

new Samsung ad, created by all male team, called tone deaf (woman jogging alone at night)

A new Samsung ad is under fire as "tone deaf" in regard to women's safety, and the company has apologized to its critics, reports the BBC. The spot called "Night Owls" features a woman going for a run in the middle of the night alone, the point being "to celebrate individuality and freedom to exercise at all hours," said the company. Critics, though, say the spot defies reality. "Women don't run at that time because we are too scared to," is how Esther Newman, editor of Women's Running magazine, puts it.

"We apologize for how this may have been received," said the company after the blowback surfaced. The ad has been particularly criticized overseas given the murder of 23-year-old Ashling Murphy, who was killed in Ireland while on a solo run in January, per Irish Central. The killing inspired the hashtag #shewasonarun in which female runners shared stories of harassment. It's “completely and utterly tone deaf," says Jamie Klinger, founder of the group Reclaim Our Streets, per the Guardian. "It's almost laughable how bad this ad lands."

When it first surfaced, the ad got a largely flattering writeup in AdWeek, but the reception since has been overshadowed by the criticism. A post at More About Advertising reports the spot was created by an all-male team at Ogilvy New York, which has not commented. "It does seem pretty shocking that, given women’s experience of exercising—or even just walking—alone, no one stopped to think about the premise of this ad," writes Emma Hall. "Samsung’s ad looks good, but consumers want more than that these days."

Florida Home for Sale Comes With Realtor's Ex

https://twitter.com/zillowgonewild/status/1518252709681451008

Earlier this month, a home went up for sale in Virginia with an unwanted squatter in the basement. Now comes one in Florida that comes complete with an ex-husband, reports WMBB. The listing out of Panama City has gone viral since it was highlighted by Zillow Gone Wild.

Realtor Crystal Ball says the $699,000 house comes with a live-in handyman as tenant—her "wonderfully rehabbed" ex, Richard Chaillou. And Chaillou plays along with fake-seductive poses in photos from around the house.

"I'm a huge fan of creative marketing tactics and I felt this was a fitting way to announce my divorce, my name change, and my new brokerage launch," Ball tells Newsweek.

So far, Ball says she has not had any serious offers, and she's run into friction from other realtors on the legalities of such a listing who keep flagging it for removal. The offer stands, however, with Chaillou hoping to remain in a "lease-back" situation for two years. As an end-around, Ball plans to list the home on "for sale by owner" websites.

From prison to Paradise: Builder brought criminal past to California town ruined by wildfire

Jay Soderling has criminal history going back to the 1980s. he was sent to prison in 1988, 1990, 1998, 2015. then brings his sketchy behavior to Paradise, CA

-------------------
Soderling and his wife Jessica arrived in Paradise in 2019, shortly after the Camp Fire, the most destructive wildfire in California history, wiped out more than 12,000 homes. Paradise needed homes rebuilt. The Soderlings needed money.

Jay had just spent two years in prison on tax charges. Jessica was on probation for the same case. They owed the IRS almost $499,000. The desperate need for homebuilders, after the most destructive wildfire in California history, was an opportunity.

Instead, their work in Paradise caused a fresh wave of legal trouble. The construction company they started, Aurora Ridge Homes Inc., is under investigation by the Butte County district attorney and the California Attorney General’s Office. Customers have told The Sacramento Bee they paid Aurora Ridge hundreds of thousands of dollars for homes that have not been finished.

The Soderlings and their son, Colton, were named in a 20-page administrative complaint filed in March by the Contractors State License Board accusing Aurora Ridge of failing to complete work and operating without a valid license. Two other men — licensed contractors who temporarily worked with Aurora Ridge — were also accused. All five people named in the complaint could be permanently barred from ever working as building contractors in California.

Cops in Tiny Iowa Town Charged With Stalking Women, Tasering Party , 100 crimes

** they were identified as criminals last year but charges keep coming. these are new allegations**

They’re accused of stalking and snooping, embezzling and evidence tampering, sextortion and falsifying documents, stealing from a fire department and repeatedly using a Taser on party guests. They’re accused of perjury, data breaches, and obstructing prosecution. They’re accused of illegal vacationing, misappropriating dental funds, and tax evasion.

They’re a gaggle of former officials from Armstrong, Iowa, where they’ve racked up more than 100 combined criminal charges.

Armstrong, located on the state’s northern border, has a population of approximately 875. But a clique of local officials—including the town’s former mayor, his son-in-law (the town’s former police chief), and a local ex-cop—are accused of single-handedly sending the tiny enclave’s crime rate sky-high. Together, they’ve been charged with more than 100 counts, ranging from assault to embezzlement. That’s not even counting another dozen charges facing an alleged accomplice cop in a nearby town.

Most of the allegations are new this month, when former Armstrong police officer Benjamin Scheevel was hit with 84 charges. Those charges include multiple counts of perjury, obstructing an investigation, stalking (including stalking with a dangerous weapon), unauthorized access and dissemination of police data, assault with a dangerous weapon, tax evasion, and theft.

According to KILR News, some of the charges stem from an incident when, while he was an officer with the Armstrong Police Department, Scheevel allegedly deployed a TASER at a party in April 2016, and then obtained money from partygoers to replace darts in the weapon.

Charges against Mayor Buum, who has since resigned, include six felonies dating all the way back to 2014. Those felony charges are first-degree theft, two counts of second-degree theft, ongoing criminal conduct, first-degree fraudulent practice, and felonious misconduct in office.

The remainder of Buum’s 11 charges include third-degree theft, three counts of non-felonious misconduct in office, and tampering with records.

Lang faces 10 charges, all from 2016 and 2017. Eight of the 10, all except two counts of tampering with records, are felonies. The felony charges are first-degree fraudulent practice, four counts of felonious misconduct in office, and three counts of falsifying public documents.

What’s the reaction?
It seemed as if a few commenters on the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post about the first four arrests weren’t surprised by them.

“Finally,” commented one person. “Their misdeeds have been an open secret for years.”

“‘Bout time we get to the bottom of this,” wrote another. “There has been questions for years. The taxpayers deserve answers.”

Giving Father's Name to Child Shouldn't Be Automatic: Court

Children should not automatically be given the father's surname at birth, a court in Italy has ruled, calling the traditional practice "discriminatory and harmful to the identity" of the child. Newborns should receive the surnames of both parents, the court said in a statement, the Guardian reports. Parents should decide the order, or decide to give their child just one surname, the statement said. "Both parents should be able to share the choice of a surname, which is a fundamental element for one’s personal identity," the court said.

Under the current law, Italian families have been unable to give a child the mother's surname unless the mother is single or the father refuses to be part of the child's life, the New York Times reports. The ruling requires legislation approved by Parliament to have the force of law. Elena Bonetti, Italy's family minister, posted online that the administration would support the move.

"We need to give substance [to the decision] ... and it is a high priority and urgent task of politics to do so," Bonetti said, per the Guardian. The parents should assume equal responsibility in raising their child, she added. Lawmaker Cecilia D’Elia, a leader on women's issues, also praised the decision, the Times reports. The top court's decision has "canceled the last patriarchal legacy in family law," D'Elia said. "The mother’s name will have the same dignity as the father’s, a sign of civilization."

Judge: No, You Can't Use Brandon Chant as Ballot Name

Update: A judge in Colorado has ruled that Dave Williams must appear as "Dave Williams" on the ballot, and not, as he hoped, as "Dave 'Let's Go Brandon' Williams."

Williams, a GOP state lawmaker, is running for Congress and tried to use the anti-Biden slogan as a nickname on the June ballot. State officials rejected the idea, and now a Denver judge has agreed, per the Washington Post. Williams says he plans to appeal to the state's highest court.

Backlash Erupts as N.Y.U. Weighs Hiring Scientist Accused of Harassment

Graduate students, faculty and alumni from New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine staged a walkout Wednesday to protest a report that the school may soon hire Dr. David Sabatini, a biologist facing allegations of sexual harassment.

---------------------------------

Dr. Sabatini, 54, is a prominent biologist, best known for his discovery of the mTOR protein, which regulates cell growth in animals, as a graduate student. In a statement, he said accusations of sexual misconduct were false and declined to comment on potential employment at N.Y.U.

----------------------

Last August, Dr. Sabatini was placed on administrative leave at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he ran a research lab through the Whitehead Institute of Biomedical Research, after an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment made against him — conducted by a law firm separate from the university — found he had violated the institute’s sexual misconduct policy.

On the same day, Dr. Sabatini also resigned from the Whitehead Institute and was fired by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, which had been funding his work at M.I.T.

He resigned from M.I.T. earlier this month after three faculty members recommended that his tenure be revoked, according to a letter to faculty from L. Rafael Reif, M.I.T. president, and obtained by The Boston Globe.
