Couple fined $18,000 for bulldozing dozens of Joshua trees to make way for home

https://news.yahoo.com/couple-fined-18-000-bulldozing-205804305.html

A couple who bulldozed and buried 36 Joshua trees to make way for a home were recently fined $18,000 — a punishment authorities hope will deter others from destroying the iconic trees.

-----------
An investigation into the destruction began Feb. 11, when a Morongo Basin resident saw his neighbors using a tractor to mow down dozens of the twisted, bristled trees and reported it to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife through a tip line, wildlife officials said.

Not long before, the neighbor — who was not identified — noticed the trees were marked for removal and warned Jeffrey Walter and Jonetta Nordberg-Walter not to take them out.

-----------------

By the time a state wildlife officer arrived at the scene, three dozen Joshua trees were buried in a "giant hole" that was freshly covered over, according to Patrick Foy, a captain with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife's law enforcement division.

Ultimately, the owner-developer couple rehired the backhoe operator who had buried the trees to dig them back up.

Two days before condo collapse, a pool contractor photographed this damage in garage

There was nothing unusual about the lobby and pool area at Champlain Towers South condo, which looked clean and well maintained to a commercial pool contractor who visited the building last Tuesday, just 36 hours before half of the building unexpectedly collapsed. Then, he saw the basement-level garage.

“There was standing water all over the parking garage,” the contractor, who asked not to be named, told the Miami Herald. He noted cracking concrete and severely corroded rebar under the pool.

He also took photos, which he shared with the Herald.

While he had worked in the industry for decades and had “gone in some scary places,” he said he was struck by the lack of maintenance in the lower level. The amount of water at Champlain Towers seemed so unusual that the contractor mentioned it to a building staff member, Jose, who was showing him around.

“He thought it was waterproofing issues,” the contractor said of the staff member. “I thought to myself, that’s not normal.” He said Jose told him they pumped the pool equipment room so frequently that the building had to replace pump motors every two years, but he never mentioned anything about structural damage or cracks in the concrete above.

Only two justices stand up to piss because they know that if you have a swinging dick you were born a man.
My God, what happened to our 6-3 majority?

Those squishy sons of bitches are worthless as teats on a boar hog or even on a sow.

All 3 justices picked by President Trump have proven to fake in their claims of being constitutionalist advocates.

off duty cop shoots teen for reason no one can determine. why hasn't he been arrested yet?

https://lawandcrime.com/police/off-duty-rhode-island-cop-under-investigation-for-shooting-teen-driver-leaving-pizzeria-parking

&t=51s

A police officer in Rhode Island who shot an allegedly unarmed teenage driver while off-duty Wednesday evening has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, several news outlets reported this week.

A surveillance camera in the parking lot of Wicked Good Pizza in West Greenwich revealed some of what happened in the moments before Pawtucket Police Officer Daniel Dolan fired at a car carrying three teenagers, hitting the driver in the arm.

-------------

An attorney representing the three teens, two of whom are brothers, told WLNE-TV that there were no weapons in the Audi and none of the teens were aware that Dolan was a police officer.

“[The driver] said that he picked up his friends, they stopped at Walmart and they drove to the pizza restaurant,” Wakefield-based attorney James Howe told the television station. “And they drove on 95. Did not see that white truck before. And the first time they saw that white truck was when he drove into the parking lot, following them, almost driving into their vehicle.”

--------

The AG’s press release stated that Dolan was off duty and traveling home on Route 95 Wednesday evening when he “encountered a black Audi sedan occupied by a driver and two passengers” and “attempted to detain the driver of the Audi.”

-----------------------

The officer first encountered the Audi on Interstate 95 and followed it to Wicked Good Pizza before he “attempted to detain” the driver, according to a statement from the state attorney general, Rhode Island State Police and West Greenwich Police Department.

“I believe the officer saw something on I-95 that was bad and followed, but that’s under investigation,” West Greenwich’s Chief Richard Ramsay said, according to WPRI.

Authorities release no information on why off-duty police officer shot 18-year-old man

“Goes over the hood of the car and ends up on the driver’s side of the car and discharges his weapon, shooting my client. My client realizes he’s hit and drives, I’m going to estimate, less than a quarter of a mile,” Howe said. “His sweatshirt was filling with blood at his elbow. Police officer drives up to him, now where he is, lights a cigarette and offers no first aid or anything.”

NBC 10 asked the Attorney General’s office Friday why there has not been an arrest, what more is known about the “encounter” on the highway, and why authorities are not answering questions.

The reply was that the “investigation remains ongoing and we are unable to disclose any additional information at this time.”

Howe says, “There has been no indication from any source that the three young men in that vehicle were doing anything that would warrant the type of police interaction, outrageous police interaction. A gun was shot. A person was shot.”

Ohio GOPs Are Pressing A Bill That Could Criminalize People Like Those Who Watched George Floyd die

Ohio Republicans Are Pressing A Bill That Could Criminalize People Like Those Who Watched George Floyd Die

https://lawandcrime.com/police/ohio-republicans-are-pressing-a-bill-that-could-criminalize-people-like-those-who-watched-george-floyd-die/

Republicans in Ohio advanced a bill on Thursday that might, depending on interpretation, criminalize the recording of police officers. Perhaps coincidentally, the legislation moved forward on the eve of convicted murderer and former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin‘s sentencing hearing for the May 2020 killing of George Floyd.

Ohio House Bill 22 would broaden the definition — and likely expand the use — of obstruction of justice laws in the Buckeye State by criminalizing the “failure to follow a lawful order from a law enforcement officer” or for “diverting a law enforcement officer’s attention.”

Another vague section of the bill makes it a crime to:

Interfere with or obstruct a law enforcement officer in a manner that does any of the following:

(a) Inhibits or restricts the law enforcement officer’s control of a subject or detainee;

(b) Deprives the law enforcement officer of control of a subject or detainee;

(c) Without the consent of the law enforcement officer, enters, or places an object or substance into, a space around the law enforcement officer that is large enough that the law enforcement officer cannot reach a person outside of the area.

condo seller getting hate mail.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate/champlain-tower-condo-was-for-sale-day-after-sister-tower-fell-the-seller-got-hate-mail/ar-AALv0tS

Jun. 27—A day after the Champlain Towers South condominium collapsed, a condo went up for sale in one of its sister towers. Realtor Siarhei Zavadski says the timing was a coincidence, but after a day of receiving hate messages he took down the listing.

-----------------------------

The three-bedroom, two-bath condo was listed on Zillow for $1,375,000 on Friday. Zavadski said it took a couple of days for photos of the condo to be taken and uploaded to the site. Per the listing agreement, he had to post the condo for sale, he said.

Later that day, Zavadski had taken down the listing after receiving several vulgar calls and messages from people who had thought the condo was in the South tower and he was playing a cruel joke.

One person called him a "f---- idiot".

When he tried to clear up the confusion with screenshots showing it was the East tower and not the South, some people apologized others did not, he said.

interesting 9 minute video about the building - an expert and the former maintenance guy

excellent talk by expert...informative. expert gets to talk without interruption. rebar doesn't dissolve when exposed to saltwater, it expands, causing further cracking of the concrete.

Former repairs were not done correctly.

former maintenance guy: two pumps in the basement running during high tide, couldn't keep up with the water intrusion. the cars would float in the water.

Fatal Shooting of 2 Black People Near Boston Is Investigated as a Hate Crime

Fatal Shooting of 2 Black People Near Boston Is Investigated as a Hate Crime
The gunman, who was killed by the police, had made “anti-Semitic and racist statements,” the Suffolk County district attorney said.

The authorities in Winthrop, Mass., are investigating whether a white man who shot and killed two Black people on Saturday after crashing a stolen truck into a house was acting out of racial and religious hatred.

The suspect, Nathan Allen, 28, had made “anti-Semitic and racist statements against Black individuals,” said Rachael Rollins, the district attorney in Suffolk County. She said investigators had found “some troubling white-supremacist rhetoric” in Mr. Allen’s own handwriting.

Mr. Allen drew swastikas and wrote about “the superiority of the white race” and about how white people were “apex predators,” Ms. Rollins said in a statement.
---------

To many people, Mr. Allen “likely appeared unassuming,” given that he was married, had a Ph.D., was employed and had no criminal history, Ms. Rollins said.

Gorillas act like humans when a snake enters their habitat - Disneyworld

https://insidethemagic.net/2021/06/animal-kingdom-gorillas-snake-th1/

The footage — which has now been viewed almost five million times — sees a young gorilla idly sitting at the glass window when something catches its eye. It circles around slowly, not quite sure what hides in the straw at the corner of its home. Soon after, another gorilla approaches to join the search and that’s when chaos erupts.

Guests can be headed shouting “there’s a snake!” while the action unfolded. The small reptile was too quick for the gorillas but that didn’t stop the whole troop — including what looks like the silverback — crowding around the snake. In the video, a Cast Member is heard saying how “just like humans, our gorillas are very curious about what goes on in their habitat”. Gorillas are known to be incredibly intelligent species of wild animals.

new favorite shirt of MAGAs

?crop=2505%3A1722%3B373%2C528&downsize=700%3A%2A&output-quality=auto&output-format=auto

Most Trump supporters came in their usual form: Red hats boasting “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” paired with a pro-Trump t-shirt (or anti-Biden one) and some representation of the American flag. But in 2021, after the president and his allies have consistently championed unsubstantiated voter fraud, there’s a new crowd favorite — t-shirts that say “Trump Won.”

Pam Niner, 65, traveled more than an hour from Centerburg, Ohio to her third Trump rally after one in Circleville, Ohio last year and another in Delaware, Ohio during the 2016 election. And while she’s eager to hear him announce a bid for 2024, she’s convinced Trump didn’t lose the last election.

“I know he won,” Niner told BuzzFeed News, her oversized “TRUMP WON” shirt nearly reaching her knees. “There’s so much evidence out there it was stolen,” she said before admitting only one thing could convince her otherwise. “Jesus Christ would have to come down and tell me that Biden won before I would ever believe it.”

Robert Clegg, 47, said “of course” when asked if he thought Trump won the election. He hasn’t thought about Trump as a 2024 candidate. Instead, he told BuzzFeed News, “I’m hoping he gets back in there before'' and added “with the overturning of the election.”
