someone had removed access plate and made a home in a sacramento bridge crawlspace

Firefighters Say Someone Was Living Inside This Freeway Crawlspace in Sacramento

Firefighters made a surprising discovery after responding to an unusual report of smoke billowing from a fire inside a freeway overpass in Sacramento.

Photos posted by the Sacramento Fire Department show a twin-size mattress and other items being removed from the crawlspace. No one was in the space when firefighters arrived Sunday morning and put out the flames.

“A person had removed an access plate underneath the bridge and was living within the roadway,” firefighters said.

The access panel is intended for use by maintenance workers. The panel is located at the top of an embankment under the bridge near downtown Sacramento.

Firefighters also found an end table and personal items, the Los Angeles Times reported.

College Student Dies from COVID After Mom 'Encouraged, Threatened and Nagged' Him to Get Vaccinated

A North Carolina college student who resisted getting vaccinated died of complications from COVID-19 at age 20.

Tyler Gilreath, a student at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington, thought that his age would protect him against the virus if he were to get sick and was concerned about side effects from a COVID-19 vaccine, his mom, Tamra Demello, said.

"He rationalized that a healthy 20 year old that gets it 'won't get that sick,' " Demello wrote on Facebook. "I cajoled, encouraged, threatened, and nagged for him to get vaccinated. He was too busy and/or concerned about the 'possible long term heart issues' but finally agreed to get it at soon as he moved at school. He didn't get the chance."

Two days after Gilreath moved into college, he contracted COVID-19, Demello told WECT News. Despite having no preexisting conditions, he quickly got severely ill, and developed a sinus and staph infection that lasted for three weeks before moving into his brain.

Gilreath developed a brain abscess that ruptured while he was in his dorm last week. He was briefly conscious after going to the hospital, but the blood flow to his brain soon stopped, and on Friday a CAT scan showed that he had irreversible brain damage.

On Tuesday morning, he was taken off life support and died.

63% of hiring managers want to see vax status on resume, 1/3rd would filter out candidates without

Pro tip: put your vax status on your resume
Hiring managers deleting applications without this information.

Putting your COVID-19 vaccine status on your resume could make it easier for you to get a job interview, a new survey has found.

Hiring managers in the US have already begun prioritising vaccinated job applicants with 63 per cent of those surveyed by ResumeBuilder saying they prefer to see a candidate’s vaccination status written on their resume.

When asked if they would rule out applications from people who didn’t say if they were vaccinated against COVID-19, one-third of respondents said yes, they would automatically filter out those resumes.

Career coach Carolyn Kleinman said hiring managers needed to be aware that such practices could limit their companies’ ability to find the right staff.

COVID-19 vax status on resumes? Some hiring managers say they toss resumes that don’t have it
Previous work history: Check. Skills and abilities: Check. Vaccination status?

A new survey from ResumeBuilder.com finds more than two-thirds of hiring managers say they are more likely to hire someone who has been vaccinated against COVID-19 — and about a third say they will automatically toss out resumes that don’t include an applicant’s vaccination status.

Overall, about 33% of hiring managers said they will eliminate applicants who don’t include a vaccination status when submitting a resume. Another 32% of hiring managers said they won’t automatically toss resumes without a status listed but said vaccinated applicants are given priority. Another 35% of hiring managers said they don’t automatically eliminate resumes without a vaccination status.

The South Dakota Attorney General Who Killed A Guy With His Car Is Still Speeding

If you killed someone driving, you’d probably go to jail. If you didn’t, or you were released, you might reassess the way you drive, or make an effort to be more responsible behind the wheel. But, not Jason Ravnsborg, who received a pretty sizeable speeding ticket days before he was to stand trial.

------------

Ravnsborg apparently has a history of speeding and ABC News reported that he has received eight tickets in seven years. His latest is a ticket for going 57 MPH in a 35 MPH zone on August 22nd, just days before his trial, for which he owes $177.50 for.

L.A. County D.A. to dismiss 60,000 past marijuana convictions

The nation’s largest prosecutor’s office is moving to dismiss roughly 60,000 marijuana convictions, the latest step to undo what some reform advocates consider the damage caused by narcotics enforcement carried out before Californians voted to legalize marijuana, Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. George Gascón announced Monday.

Under previous Dist. Atty. Jackie Lacey, the office moved last year to dump 66,000 marijuana convictions that took place before voters passed Proposition 64, the state law legalizing recreational marijuana use. But that list was compiled using information collected by the California Department of Justice, and Gascón said his office was able to identify tens of thousands more eligible cases by combing L.A. County court records.

“Dismissing these convictions means the possibility of a better future to thousands of disenfranchised people who are receiving this long-needed relief,” Gascón said in a statement. “It clears the path for them to find jobs, housing and other services that previously were denied to them because of unjust cannabis laws.”

Gascón has long championed efforts to reverse what he sees as the racially disparate and overly punitive effects of the nation’s war on drugs. While serving as San Francisco’s top prosecutor, he sought the dismissal of nearly 9,000 felony and misdemeanor marijuana convictions that were processed before the passage of Proposition 64. As part of that effort, Gascón partnered with nonprofit tech organization Code for America, which developed an algorithm to analyze county data and identify cases eligible to be cleared under Proposition 64.

Florida maintenance worker used his key to access 19 yr old's appt. He is dead, she is missing

ORLANDO, Fla. – A maintenance worker who the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said had a romantic interest in a missing 19-year-old woman from South Florida has been found dead, according to investigators.

Deputies continue searching for Miya Marcano who went missing on Friday. Marcano, from Pembroke Pines, is a student at Orlando’s Valencia College. She graduated last year from Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines.

On Monday, deputies said they found Armando Manuel Caballero, 27, apparently dead by suicide in Seminole County and that they had been looking for him to question him about Marcano’s disappearance.

“We had been actively searching for Caballero this weekend and, I want to reiterate, Miya is still missing,” said Orange County Sheriff John Mina. “Her disappearance is suspicious and our detectives and the family members obviously suspect foul play.”
