Texas woman finds abortion support in washington...I went to a different country today," she said.

https://m.arcamax.com/currentnews/newsheadlines/s-2791672?fs

A. also found support from the Northwest Abortion Access Fund, boosted by thousands of new donors and pledges from Seattle, King County and Oregon in the months following last May's leak of the Supreme Court's draft decision on Roe.

The fund booked her flight and hotel, paying for both, as well as the abortion. The nonprofit also arranged for rides during her stay, and picked up the tab for breakfast and sandwich fixings delivered to her room.

"They've kind of made it so the only thing I really have to do is get there and heal," A. said.

'A different country'

A few nights later, A. sat on a bed with her sister in a Renton hotel room, near the clinic where she had an appointment the next morning. Her arrival in a place where abortion is considered a right, rather than murder, seemed to awe her.

"I went to a different country today," she said.

Newsmax hosts on Monday condemned Dilbert comic strip creator Scott Adams after he posted a "racist tirade" on Twitter.

In his rant, Adams alleged Black Americans are a "hate group" and said white people should "get away" from them. Many newspapers dropped the Dilbert comic following the remarks.

"These comments are not good; they need to be addressed," Newsmax correspondent Christina Thompson said at the top of her report on Monday.

Thompson described Adams' remarks as a "racist tirade."

"I can't believe people like this are out there," she continued, "and that they have any sort of platform. I'm so sick of this type of hate; I'm so sick of this anger in the world. Can we please all just be kind? I don't understand why it's so hard for some people."

A Romanian court on Tuesday extended the detention of Andrew Tate, the controversial influencer being investigated along with his brother for alleged human trafficking and rape.

Tate, 36, and his brother Tristan, 34, were arrested in late December. Their current detention order was to expire next week.

But the court ordered them detained for another 30 days, Ramona Bolla, a spokeswoman for Romania's anti-organised crime and terrorism directorate (DIICOT), told AFP.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bailey Martin confirmed the killings in Arkabutla, in Tate County, to The Associated Press.

Gov. Tate Reeves' office said he had been briefed on the shootings and a male suspect was in custody. It was believed he acted alone, and officials did not have a motive yet.

Shannon Brewer, a dispatcher for the Tate County sheriffs, also confirmed that a suspect was in custody.

Arkabutla lies about 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of Memphis, Tennessee, and is home to 285 residents

Tennessee will no longer accept federal HIV prevention funds..experts scratch their heads

Heard on public radio segment today. Googled to find lots of stories about this. TN will concentrate their own hiv otevention on women and children ..groups not atnrisk. WTF

https://wpln.org/post/episodes/hiv-funding-tennessee/

In January the Tennessee Department of Health announced that the state will no longer accept funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for HIV prevention, testing and surveillance.

Around 20,000 Tennesseans are living with HIV, and the CDC estimates that 14% of Tennesseans with HIV are unaware of their status. The funding will run out at the end of May, and there is no set plan of how the state will compensate for this lack of federal money. So, how did we get here?

In this episode, we look into the why the state made this decision and talk to physicians and health advocates about potential long-term consequences. Tennessee Health Commissioner Dr. Ralph Alvarado was invited to join the panel, but declined.

DeSantis, Wants SCOTUS to Roll Back 1964 Press Freedom ruling

https://dnyuz.com/2023/02/10/desantis-aiming-at-a-favorite-foil-wants-to-roll-back-press-freedom/

Mr. DeSantis is the latest figure, and among the most influential, to join a growing list of Republicans calling on the court to revisit the 1964 ruling, known as The New York Times Company v. Sullivan.

The decision set a higher bar for defamation lawsuits involving public figures, and for years it was viewed as sacrosanct. That standard has empowered journalists to investigate and criticize public figures without fear that an unintentional error will result in crippling financial penalties.

But emboldened by the Supreme Court’s recent willingness to overturn longstanding precedent, conservative lawyers, judges, legal scholars and politicians have been leading a charge to review the decision and either narrow it or overturn it entirely.

-----

“How did it get to be this doctrine that has had really profound effects on society?” he said at the event, which featured two libel lawyers known for suing news organizations and a conservative scholar who recently published an essay titled “Overturn New York Times v. Sullivan.”

A f*cked up Grace Community church in Sun valley California

Tells women to submit to their abusive child molesting husbands

https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2023/february/grace-community-church-elder-biblical-counseling-abuse.html

---

This fall, Cho found himself once again reviewing court filings from a member at Grace Community Church who soughtwoa restraining order against her husband in hopes of protecting herself and her young children from abuse—this time at the request. Certain parallels to Eileen Gray were immediately clear to him.

The woman told CT she recognized the parallels too. She said when she read about Eileen Gray last year, she thought, This sounds a lot like what I’ve been told. (CT’s policy allows victims of abuse to go unnamed for the sake of privacy and safety; her identity and the details of her account have been verified in reporting this story.)

“Whenever I made moves in the direction of the restraining order, it was, ‘Be careful of the heart of retaliation,’” the woman said. “They were telling me to back off, essentially. … They were saying it was un-Christian of me to seek that legal protection because believers don’t take other believers to court.”

She said she had reported to church leaders evidence of her husband’s infidelity, searches for incest porn, and inappropriate behavior with their daughter starting when she was just a couple years old.

George Santos offered to raise money for farm sanctuar for abused animals then ghosted off w the $$$

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/06/nyregion/santos-pets-animal-charity.html

‘Karma’s gonna get you’

In 2017, Friends of Pets United held an event to benefit a farm in New Jersey owned by Ms. Dos Santos. The organization said it planned to use the farm for rescue operations.

Ms. Dos Santos, ''-
said that Mr. Santos told her that he could help raise money to repair her barn and build fences for a private sanctuary for abused animals. So she agreed to host an event at the farm, soliciting donations from friends and laying out her own money for refreshments, she said.

For $50, guests to the farm would get live music, drinks and barbecue. Dozens of people came, according to Ms. Dos Santos and another person who attended, and the turnout raised Ms. Dos Santos’s hopes. A GoFundMe page for the event raised $2,165.

But after the event, Mr. Santos, who had handled all the money, was hard to reach, Ms. Dos Santos said

“It was excuse after excuse after excuse,” Ms. Dos Santos said, adding that she never received the money.

In their final conversation, Ms. Dos Santos remembers issuing a warning. “‘Karma’s gonna get you,’ I said, ‘and if it does, you’re going to remember me. Because you are going to deserve everything you are going to get.’”

George Santos grabbed a premier center aisle seat ahead of SOTU but some didnt shake his hand

https://www.businessinsider.com/george-santos-aisle-seat-state-of-the-union-mitt-romney-2023-2

Embattled Rep. George Santos grabbed a premier center aisle seat ahead of President Joe Biden's State of the Union Address.

That seating put him in a prime position to shake some hands.

But he soon discovered that not everyone, including some Republicans, was interested in seeing him.

=====

But several senators were visibly uninterested, particularly Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah.

Other dignitaries who passed by Santos also passed over him, even as they shook hands with Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, seated on the other side of him. Among them was Vice President Kamala Harris.

‘Furry’ accused of forcing woman into porn looked up to Andrew Tate, Elon Musk: court docs

A Wisconsin “furry” accused of holding a woman hostage and forcing her to work as cam girl looked up to Elon Musk and Andrew Tate, according to a report.

Austin Koeckeritz was being held Friday at a Pierce County jail on $300,000 bond. He’s facing a federal labor-trafficking charge for allegedly enslaving a woman between August 2020 and Aug. 5, 2022, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice. She told investigators she “lost her freedom” and that Koeckeritz held her hostage in an often sweltering room. He pocketed most of the six-figure income she generated making and posting illicit videos online.

Koeckeritz went as far as making his “adult entertainment” enterprise official, court documents obtained by the Daily Beast show. He called it the “Boring Company,” named after Musk’s tunnel construction services company. According to its LinkedIn page, Koeckeritz serves as the entity’s financial services officer while his victim is listed as a “porn star,” police said.

What’s more, Musk is the only account Koeckeritz’s “fursona” — or his animal character — follows on Twitter.

The “furry” community is a group of people fond of anthropomorphized animals, some of whom don “fur suits” during sexual encounters.
