Extremely rude and inappropriate tweet from the White House to Senator Harris

https://twitter.com/WhiteHouse/status/1013883261150466048

We're patiently waiting for Mueller, we're patiently waiting for the elections, but something has got to give.

This administration is a pathetic and embarrassing assault on our country.

What is wrong with you, white supremacists?

I am a 67-year-old American white woman. My parents enlisted in World War II to fight fascism. They both served; my mother was a nurse, my father navigated bombers. They lost friends in that bloody war so that all the world could be free of fascism. They did not fight so that some white people could claim supremacy or that Nazis could openly walk the streets of America.

White person to white supremacist person: What is wrong with you?

People of European heritage are doing just fine in the world. They run most of the world’s institutions, hold much of the world’s wealth, replicate as frequently as other humans. You’re not in any danger here. The world is changing, that’s true. Others want a piece of the pie. They work for it, strive for it and earn it. Technology (robotics) is having a greater effect on your job prospects than immigrants. Going forward, tackling corporate control and climate change will need all of our attention, ideas and energy. Put down your Tiki torches and trite flags and get involved in some real work.

By the way, the world won the war against Nazi fascism in the 1940s, just as America won the war against the Confederacy in the 1860s. Aligning with two lost causes just labels you as profound losers.

And finally, white person to white person: Like my parents before me, I will not stand idly by nor give up my rights or the rights of other Americans because you think you are better than some of us. It doesn’t work that way. All Americans stand shoulder to shoulder against your hatred and bigotry.

This was published in the Salt Lake Tribune in August of 2017 but it still rings true today. I saw it on twitter and I thought I'd share it here.

Human rights activist: Democrats will rise up in Supreme Court fight like they did in ObamaCare repe

Human rights activist Kristine Lucius said on Monday that Democrats will rise up in the fight over President Trump's Supreme Court pick like they did in the fight over repealing and replacing ObamaCare.

Lucius suggested that though Democrats face an uphill fight in defeating any Trump pick given the GOP's Senate majority, it is not impossible.

“I think if you look at just what happened a year ago, a lot of people would have said Democrats couldn’t have stopped the repeal of ObamaCare," Lucius, who serves as the executive vice President & Director of Policy at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, told Hill.TV's Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on "Rising."

"But what happened was people rose up. The people demanded the Senate not take away their healthcare. I think you’re going to see the same exact thing here in the Supreme Court fight because that’s exactly what’s on the line again," she continued.

“This president has told us what kind of justices he wants to put on the court, and right at the heart of that is access to healthcare," she added. “If you look at what happened a year ago, I think everyone was counting out the Democrats, and the progressive left on healthcare a year ago, but instead we stopped the repeal.”

She's right. We have to do everything we can to fight this.

Protests, recall effort for Dixon vice mayor who called for July to be 'straight pride' month

A recall effort and a protest is in the works, after the vice mayor of Dixon, Calif., penned a column calling for the celebration of "Straight Pride American Month" and expressed what some are calling hateful rhetoric against the LGBTQ community.

Published Friday in the Independent Voice, Dixon Vice Mayor Ted Hickman's column, "That's Life," drew criticism for a number of statements. Hickman referred to gay people as "tinker bells" and "faries" (sic), called Gay Pride Month "LGBTQF-WTF month" while implying LGBTQ folks have an inferiority complex.

In response, groups had formed online within a day of the column being published, with the intent of starting a recall against Hickman. There's also a protest planned for the city's next council meeting, KXTV reported. Another group has scheduled a LGBTQ Pride Day in the Solano County city on July 27 in response to Hickman's comments.

I had to look it up. Dixon is a pretty small town. This guy has got to go.

Idaho Dems to switch to presidential primary, rather than caucuses

CALDWELL — Idaho Democrats will switch to a presidential primary, rather than a caucus, for the next presidential election in 2020.

The party announced the change during its state party convention Saturday at the College of Idaho in Caldwell.

“We’re looking to move to a system that we have a primary, so that everybody can vote,” said Van Beechler, the party’s first vice chair.

Party Chairman Bert Marley said, “It’s been obvious the last couple presidential elections that the caucus system for us, in most parts of the state, is pretty unwieldy.”

Some caucus meetings have gone long into the evening, reported long lines, and otherwise tested the patience of participants.

Ocasio Cortez is an ally,

not an enemy.

She's a young, hard working liberal Democrat who caught the political bug and ran an astounding ground game to win office.

She caught lightening in a bottle.

We should be celebrating her, not demonizing her.

Edit to add: Democrats in New York State support her. Democrats of all stripes support her. Hillary Democrats, Bernie Democrats, Unaffiliated Voters, non voters... everyone.

If she's not a good fit for your district, fine. She a great fit for this New York district, though.

Enough of the bashing of this young, enthused, and engaged Democrat.
