Impeachment hearing dynamics
One thing the private meetings did was help Schiff understand the republican arguments. They also gave an overall view of what happened.
They must have scheduled the public hearings to best tell the overall story.
Owning the first 45 minutes of the public hearings lets Schiff get the witnesses to tell their story completely and anticipate what the republican strategy will be.
At the same time, they are handling surprises very well. Exposing trump’s intimidation tweet in real time turned it from a distraction to a devastating piece of evidence. Deposing Holmes on friday was fast. Holmes had to travel a day from Ukraine.
The 45 minute session exposes the banality of the republican argument. For one thing it pits Schiff against Nunes. Schiff is obviously smart and speaks well. Nunes loses arguments with imaginary cows.
The lawyers are also unequally matched, Goldman seems relatable while Castor has a locked in who farted sneer.
No wonder they were so frantic to mix up the batting order Friday morning. Shut down hard.
Schiff and Castor get to let the witnesses tell their story. Stories are compelling. Everyone likes a story and it makes the case clear and believable.
45 minutes later the republicans get their turn, but there is nothing to fill 45 minutes. They get to examine the few remaining crumbs, but the feast is over. Most of them can fill 5 minutes with thunder. Get a few of them in a formation and they can keep it going indefinitely.
Keep it to two and it is boring and obvious they have nothing.

Republicans called the impeachment hearings a nothing burger saying that there is nothing unusual about working with foreign countries to influence elections.
A senator who spoke anonymously said “Look this has happened many times before. Nixon aids met with north Vietnam. Reagan aids met with Iranians. Trump aids met with Russia. And they were just candidates. Surely the president has more power than a candidate.”
Asked for comment, Democratic leaders couldn’t get past saying “what the f***”.
For the sarcastically impaired there is a fair amount in the above.
Outrages of the day so far Oct 16
Referring to the growing disaster in Syria, compared the situation to playing in the sand, trivializing the strategic, military and humanitarian disasters.
Talked about the 1000s of year old relationship between Italy and the US.
Called Pelosi a third rate politician during a briefing on the situation in Syria causing the democratic leaders to walk out.
Sent a weak sniveling letter to the Erdogan that will be remembered throughout history. It will be discussed for longer than the relationship between Italy and America.
Sorry for whatever l didn’t remember.

Donny has been under a lot of stress. Those mean Democratic representatives keep trying to investigate and he was already totally exonerated. And that meanie Nancy Pelosi has said some awful things.
We need to support him in this stessful time. It would be a wonderful gesture if the country united in sending him pacifiers to help calm his nerves so he can get back to important work.

The art of the bluff
These two paragraphs summarize trump’s negotiating style.
The tactic worked for a brief period — earning Mr. Trump millions of dollars in gains — until investors realized that he would not follow through. That much has been known for years. But the tax information obtained by The Times shows that he ultimately lost the bulk of the gains from his four-year trading spree.
Bluff and bluster and take whatever he can get. Whichever side runs out of options first loses.
The problem now is he has recourse to executive orders domestically and that and more internationally. Still, China, North Korea and Iran have all called his bluff in the past week.
I’d say we’re winning the same way trump was winning when he lost the billion dollars.
I shouldn't have looked
I haven’t watched any cable news for a year. For some reason I put in msnbc on way to shower. Some talking head (Navarro?) saying the budget impasse will turn off voters which will hurt democrats because voters will stay home in disgust in 2020. How the hell does she know what’s going to happen almost 2 years from now? I wish i had a job where i could spout bullshit without any accountability or factuality.
Out of the shower and she’s still there with some other idiots blathering about Schultz. F that oligarch and F them for giving him free air time.
What a mistake in my part but a reminder of why i stooped watching. Cable news is propaganda.
