Zinc and larch canopies shade a series of terraces at this home in southern Sweden, designed by local practice Johan Sundberg Arkitektur. Located in a pine forest in the Ljungskogen area close to the coast, Villa MSV was designed by Lund-based studio Johan Sundberg Arkitektur for a couple who wanted ample space both inside and outside for hosting large gatherings with friends and family.
Rather than have the home prioritise one particular view or direction, the studio used a T-shaped plan to create three terraces around the living spaces that respond to particular uses at different times of day. "We've been working with many different classical atrium-style L-shaped houses for years at our studio, but recently we've started questioning this form," Johan Sundberg told Dezeen.
"Often the outsides of the L-shape become lower quality spaces, sometimes even 'backsides' to the houses." "In this house, and in Sommerhus T, we've started looking at the spaces around a T-shape – this way we can create more distinct spaces to the east of the house," continued Sundberg.
Facing the rising sun to the east is a small paved patio between the entrance and bedroom block at the front of the home and the central living spaces. A winding path leads from here to the main bedroom at the rear. To the west, a wooden decked area creates an extension of the living areas through full-height sliding doors. An outdoor dining table and seating spaces for evening gathering overlook a garden that leads directly into the nearby forest.

Designers at Korean car company Hyundai have built the Heritage Series Grandeur, a modernised, all-electric version of its 1980s saloon car. The carmaker kept the first generation Grandeur's original boxy shape while adding features such as pixel-style LED headlights and taillights.
Redesigned side mirrors, covered wheels and slide cladding were also developed for the model, named the Heritage Series Grandeur. Inside, the car has been given a luxury makeover with burgundy velvet upholstery on the front of the seats reminiscent of the original's interiors and auburn napa leather on the back.
The buttons and dials of the dashboard were replaced with an ultra-wide touch screen display, while a single-spoke steering wheel and aeroplane-style gearstick are intended to retain a 1980s aesthetic. Other touches include a hidden pop-out compartment for storing valuables in the centre console armrest and bronze-coloured lighting that mimics 1980s audio equipment.
The Heritage Series Grandeur's own sound system was developed by South Korean sound designer Guk-il Yu and uses 18 speakers. The brand claims the car's dashboard and centre console has been shaped based on the acoustics of concert hall architecture. Hyundai described its approach to the design as "Newtro (newness + retro)".

Police have named the failed bomber who died in the Liverpool Women’s Hospital explosion.
Detectives said they strongly believe the taxi passenger who was carrying the device was Emad al-Swealmeen.
The 32-year-old is thought to have lived in a house in Sutcliffe Street where several other men have been arrested.
He recently rented a different property, in Rutland Avenue, where investigators found bomb components.

The Church of England bishop who confirmed the man suspected of the Liverpool bombing into the Christian faith has said he was “shocked and saddened” by the attack and that Emad al-Swealmeen had been part of the community at Liverpool Cathedral.
Cyril Ashton, an assistant bishop of Liverpool, said Swealmeen’s confirmation was “one of hundreds I have conducted as a bishop, so I have no specific recollection of the individual”.
He added: “The church takes confirmation seriously and I know that he would have been thoroughly prepared with an understanding of the Christian faith. It seems that, sadly, despite this grounding, the bomber chose a different path for his life.” A cathedral spokesperson said Swealmeen was baptised in 2015 and confirmed in 2017, but lost contact with the cathedral in 2018.
He was one of hundreds of migrants – mostly Iranians, but some from Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere – who have attended classes and services at the cathedral, and have been baptised and confirmed in the Christian faith.

Benjamin Mendy: Manchester City footballer charged with two further rapes

He was suspended by the club after being charged by police, pending an investigation. Louis Saha Matturie was also previously charged with four counts of rape in relation to the alleged attacks between March 2021 and August 2021.
The 40-year-old from Eccles has also been charged with two additional counts of rape and one of sexual assault and summonsed to appear at the court. Both men are due to go on trial on 24 January 2022.
