In the new book by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, "I Alone Can Fix It", the authors reveal that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Mark Milley put plans in place to defeat any attempt by Donald Trump to unlawfully retain power after losing the presidential election.

All military members are taught that lawful orders must be obeyed and unlawful orders must be disobeyed. Gen. Milley was honoring his oath of office and allegiance to the Constitution by preparing to defeat any attempt at an illegal coup.

Here is a discussion of the importance of our government officials being guided by their responsibility to the Constitution, particularly as Trump and many Republicans continue to push The Big Lie on the American people.

Former President Donald Trump gave a hate-filled, largely fact-free speech at CPAC - the Conservative Political Action Conference. Trump berated Bill Barr for not helping him overturn the election results, he slandered Hillary Clinton as his adoring fans chanted "lock her up," he mocked others and cursed like an ill-tempered teenager, and his groupies in the crowd loved it.

Donald Trump will continue to do all he can to destroy American democracy until the Department of Justice finally indicts him for the many crimes he committed in violation of the laws of the United States.

During his confirmation hearing for Attorney General, Merrick Garland answered a question from Senator Cory Booker by saying the following:

"I come from a family where my grandparents fled anti-Semitism and persecution. The country took us in and protected us. I feel an obligation to the country to pay back and this is the highest best use of my own set of skills to pay back."

Many Americans feel like we are watching our democracy crumbling courtesy of Donald Trump's continues lies about the election results. It's time for AG Garland to protect our families in our country as a way to "pay back" - in his words - the fact that this nation protected his family. Protecting families can only be accomplished by holding accountable not just the Trump supporters who attacked the Capitol on January 6, but the people who funded, organized and incited the insurrection as well.
