Ted Lieu on the DOJ spying, people working at the DOJ knew for years & still working there

The DOJ was aware of this scandal for years, including this year. Why is
asking for an Inspector General investigation now? Because of the free press. But this shouldn’t be how the Garland DOJ works. Your job is not to maximize presidential power. Do better.

I guess Senator Schatz couldn't be clearer on investigations, hint, hint

I hesitate to tell the other chamber how to conduct its business, but since we are in a 50-50
Senate and can’t issue subpoenas without Republicans, I respectfully ask the House to not call for investigations from the executive branch, but rather to do it themselves.

'Boogaloo Boi' killer was an active member of a secretive terrorist militia group planning violence

Despite the widespread media narrative blaming Black Lives Matter and antifascist activists for last summer’s protest violence, there were plenty of suspicions that far-right extremists seeking to intensify the public’s fear of the “violent left” were in fact responsible for a significant amount of it. These suspicions were fed by such incidents as the assassination of a federal officer in Oakland by two far-right “Boogaloo Bois” and the arrest of another “Boogaloo” enthusiast from Texas for attacking a police station in Minneapolis.

Now we know, thanks to federal prosecutors investigating the Oakland incident, that in fact it was not the act of a single “lone wolf” and his accomplice, but rather part of a larger plot by a group of far-right extremists who called themselves the “Grizzly Scouts” and planned a series of deadly attacks on law-enforcement officers with the intent of making it appear to be the work of the “violent left.” Even more disturbing, according to the San Jose Mercury-News, most of these conspirators, following their arrests for destroying evidence in the case, have been released on bond by federal magistrates who have deemed them not a risk to the community.

The Grizzly Scouts, according to the grand jury indictment handed down in April, plotted a variety of lethal actions targeting law-enforcement officers in the months and weeks before fellow “Boogaloo Boi” Steven Carrillo—an active-duty Air Force sergeant—shot and killed federal protection officer Dave Patrick Underwood on May 29, 2020, and then a week later, a Santa Cruz sheriff’s deputy seeking to arrest him. Carrillo was a key member of the group, which in addition to planning attacks on police, engaged in paramilitary training exercises at the home of a member near Turlock, California.

The four men named in the indictment—Jessie Alexander Rush, 29, of Turlock; Robert Jesus Blancas, 33, of Castro Valley; Simon Sage Ybarra, 23, of Los Gatos; and Kenny Matthew Miksch, 21, of San Lorenzo—and Carrillo used a WhatsApp chat group for the Grizzly Scouts labeled “209 Goon HQ” to plan their attacks and organize training sessions as part of the so-called “Boogaloo” movement with which they identified.

USPS Projects Continuing Mail Delays, Setting Targets Well Below Historical Standards

The U.S. Postal Service is signaling that widespread mail delays prevalent in 2020 and early 2021 are the new normal, setting expectations for the remainder of the year far below historical norms.

USPS expects to deliver less than 88% of regular First-Class Mail on time for pieces slated for a two-day turnaround and less than 69% on time for those in the three-to-five day window. That would mark a decrease from 2020—already a down year—when the agency delivered 91% and 79% of mail on time, respectively. The reduced targets approved last month by the postal board of governors highlighted a significant departure from previous USPS goals, as it expected to deliver more than 95% of mail on time in all recent years.

The Postal Service will have to improve performance to meet even those lower targets, as it delivered just 86% of two-day and 58% of three-to-five day mail on time in the second quarter of fiscal 2021. Postal management announced on Thursday it had improved its overall First-Class Mail on-time delivery to 88% for the month of May. That still remains below its performance in recent years, including pandemic-affected 2020. USPS hopes to avoid delays on 93% and 85% of mail, respectively, for the remainder of fiscal 2021.

“The Postal Service will have to achieve substantial improvement in service performance across all products over the second half of the year in order to meet its end-of-fiscal-year targets,” management said in a recent filing to Congress.

Jeff Tiedrich response to Manchin saying he will not vote for an overhaul of U.S. election law

or change the filibuster law

holy fucking shit, Joe Manchin is the most powerful Republican in government

this guy is getting repukes to retweet this

Local journalists collaborating with national journalists to get the story straight, because

democracy is at stake. Reminds me of local police sharing notes with the Feds in criminal cases. We all know the criminals here are the fascist repukes.

The Arizona audit & one on the local journalists who was there through the whole mess keeping an eye on the tRump crooks.

I’ve had the chance to finally meet in person many TV journalists I admire:

Usually we aren’t quick to share what we know as a story develops. In this case, fitting together the puzzle pieces is a group effort.

It’s also been awesome to have national reporters step in to help on the pool ...

It’s really unprecedented from what I have seen for local & national journalists to work together. More of this in future pls.

Israel air attacking in Gaza Strip, ground troops have begun fighting with Palestinian militants

Source: Denver7

JERUSALEM — Israel Defense Forces says its troops on the ground and in the air are currently attacking in the Gaza Strip, according to a tweet sent by their official account Thursday afternoon. The assault happened around midnight local time.

During the day, Israel had said it was massing troops along the Gaza frontier and called up 9,000 reservists ahead of a possible ground invasion of the Hamas-ruled territory. There have been rocket fire and airstrikes on both sides for most of the day.

Egyptian mediators and representatives from other countries had rushed to Israel to effort a cease-fire, but there does not appear to be any progress.

Thursday's attacks came after violence between the two sides erupted for a fourth night. Jewish and Arab mobs violently clashed in the town of Lod. Fighting continued despite increased police presence and curfews.

Update: Israel's military clarified that its ground forces have begun fighting with Palestinian militants but have yet to enter Gaza
