Found Frozen and Almost Perfectly Preserved in Permafrost, this 18,000-Year-Old Puppy Could Be a Huge Deal

The DNA of an exquisitely preserved puppy found in Siberia doesn’t appear to fit the profile of a dog or a wolf, which means the specimen might be something in between.

The frozen puppy, found near Yakutsk in eastern Siberia, was just two months old when it died, reports CNN. Scientists from the Centre for Palaeogenetics—a joint project between Stockholm University and the Swedish Museum of Natural History—used radiocarbon dating on its rib bone to place its brief time on Earth to 18,000 years ago, during the tail end of the last Ice Age.

The level of preservation is unreal, with the puppy still exhibiting intact teeth, nose, and fur. Scientists were able to extract DNA from the specimen, allowing them to confirm the pup’s sex as male. It has since been named “Dogor,” which means “friend” in Yakutian.

Look at that li'l nose!

Is this OK? Or is this a Thanksgiving disaster in the making?

Pulled the turkey out of the freeze last week. Today, it's still frozen. Shit. Need some wine for this.

Ran water over it in the sink. Bag of giblets broke with half of it still in the turkey. More wine. Dug them out after about 5 minutes of struggling in cold water. Need more wine again.

While the bird soaks, start the brine. Salt, white sugar, brown sugar, soy, olive oil. No soy? No brown sugar? Shit. Should've gone shopping before I started drinking.

More salt. More sugar.

Hey! I've got some steak sauce! That'll work.

Right? Right?

Add some of the wine. For me & the bird.

This is bullshit: Pete Buttigieg's PAC Was Supposed To Help Elect Democrats. It Mostly Touted Him.

I'm sorry, but I might be missing something. Are any other candidate's PACs being criticized for supporting their candidate? I don't think so.

The committee spent less than 10% of its funds supporting Democratic candidates.

The PAC had done relatively little to help Democrats during the 2018 midterm elections, when the party waged its hard-fought battle to win control of the U.S. House. But it had paid significant sums to a host of Democratic consultants and staffers to promote Buttigieg’s image. Of the slightly more than $400,000 Buttigieg raised for the PAC, it donated just $37,000 to other Democratic candidates.

Van Jones: Pete Buttigieg 'Falls Off A Cliff' On Black Issues

The CNN host called Buttigieg “a great candidate,” but said he doesn’t yet “have the touch” on racial matters.

“You watch Pete in this debate. They brought up the issues around farm subsidies. He lights up. He was unbelievable,” said Jones. “He was great. He was confident. You just had the sense that this guy has thought about this. He’s talked to 100,000 people who are all farmers. He knows what they need. He’s ready for business.”

But when “the issues around Black stuff comes up, it’s more studied,” Jones noted. “It’s more prepared. It’s more careful. It feels like he feels he’s on some thin ice and I just don’t understand why.”

Jones said he understood why Buttigieg attempted during the debate and on the campaign trail to liken his struggles as a gay man to those faced by Black Americans. But Jones argued Buttigieg “doesn’t do it right.”

Mayo Pete just isn't ready for prime time.

Seems to me that Trump and his Republican toadies are awfully pissed off.
