MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Blues Legend Bobby Rush is self-quarantined at home with coronavirus symptoms. Local 24 News Weeknight Anchor Katina Rankin spoke with the Grammy Award Winning Musician about what he's been experiencing.

Bobby Rush has been singing the blues for more than half a century now. But recently, he's been a bit clue and had quite the scare.

"I been really under the weather for about six weeks, I suppose. Six weeks roughly, but I been in and out of the hospital a couple of times," said blues singer Bobby Rush.

Rush says he had a few COVID-19 tests performed, but they came back inconclusive. So he self-quarantined himself and says he will remain in isolation until April 20th.

government seizes orders of COVID-19 medical supplies
Committees demand answers after officials in multiple states report the feds seized their supplies without warning

Two House committees have called on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to turn over documents related to reports that the agency is seizing orders of coronavirus medical supplies from states, as well as the involvement of President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in overseeing those efforts.

The chairs of the House Homeland Security and Oversight committees called on FEMA to turn over documents responding to a "troubling report" from the Health and Human Services Department's inspector general detailing "severe shortages" of emergency equipment reported by hospitals around the count.

Pharma-Funded Group Tied to a Top Trump Donor Is Promoting Malaria Drug to the President

[link:https://readsludge.com/2020/04/06/pharma-funded-group-run-by-a-top-trump-donor-is-promoting-malaria-drug-to-the-president/|

The Job Creators Network was founded in 2011 by billionaire Home Depot co-founder Bernard Marcus, a major GOP donor who spent more than $7 million through outside groups to help elect Trump in 2016. Marcus has said that he plans to spend part of his fortune to help re-elect Trump in 2020.

Job Creator Network’s hydroxychloroquine campaign has been run in partnership with a nonprofit called Physicians for Reform, which works with FreedomWorks to promote deregulatory health care policies. FreedomWorks, a conservative advocacy group that was founded by the Koch brothers, also receives money from PhRMA. According to tax documents PhRMA gave $100,000 to Freedomworks in 2018.

Since Trump began claiming that hydroxychloroquine may be a cure for the coronavirus, there has been a shortage of the drug, which besides being used for treating malaria is also approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treating lupus and arthritis. The shortage of the drug has prompted the Lupus Foundation of America and other other medical groups to issue a joint statement to the White House coronavirus task force to work with them to help ensure the drug, and a related drug, chloroquine, would be available to patients who need it to stay alive. “While we support rigorous clinical trials to investigate their potential use for COVID-19, it is imperative to preserve access to these medications for those patients whose lives and productivity depend on them,” the groups wrote.

Palmer report which I realize some of you don't care for, has article, too:

Anti-corruption publication Sludge is reporting that Donald Trump received a $125,000 campaign donation last year from a hydroxychloroquine dealer named Joseph Pizza. Trump’s relationship with Mr. Pizza apparently goes back several years, and they’re close enough that Trump once sang “Happy Birthday” to Mr. Pizza’s wife, Mrs. Pizza.

“The biggest mistake any [of] us can make in these situations is to misinform,” said Obama. “Speak the truth. Speak it clearly. Speak it with compassion. Speak it with empathy for what folks are going through … The more smart people you have around you, and the less embarrassed you are to ask questions, the better your response is going to be."

Obesity is major COVID-19 risk factor, says French chief epidemiologist

[link:https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-france-confinement/obesity-is-major-covid-19-risk-factor-says-french-chief-epidemiologist-idUSKBN21Q0S7?utm_source=reddit.com|

PARIS (Reuters) - Being overweight is a major risk for people infected with the new coronavirus and the United States is particularly vulnerable because of high obesity levels there, France’s chief epidemiologist said on Wednesday.

Professor Jean-François Delfraissy, who heads the scientific council that advises the government on the epidemic, said as many as 17 million of France’s 67 million citizens were seriously at risk from the coronavirus because of age, pre-existing illness or obesity.

“This virus is terrible, it can hit young people, in particular obese young people. Those who are overweight really need to be careful,” Delfraissy told franceinfo radio.

“That is why we’re worried about our friends in America, where the problem of obesity is well known and where they will probably have the most problems because of obesity.”

In a televised address, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Thursday that he was ordering an extension of a national "non-working week," a measure designed to increase social distancing, until the end of the month, according to The Moscow Times.

He also signed legislation making it a crime to break coronavirus quarantine rules, with a punishment of up to seven years in prison and a sentence of up to five years in prison for spreading false information about the novel coronavirus, the newspaper said.

Putin said he would delegate decision-making to regional authorities because of the differences in infection rates throughout the country.

So the asshole is admitting it.

With Warship Coronavirus Cases Rising, Concerns Over Military Readiness

[link:https://www.npr.org/2020/04/09/831266852/with-warship-coronavirus-cases-rising-concerns-over-military-readiness|

Amid growing concerns about military readiness, a sailor from the coronavirus-sidelined aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt became the first crew member to be hospitalized in intensive care in Guam Thursday. He is one of more than 400 of the ship's sailors who have tested positive for COVID-19.

"I guess deep down I was hoping that we would never get to the point. I was hoping that the numbers would be zero at the end of this," Gen. John Hyten, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said of the sick sailor at a Pentagon news briefing Thursday. "But that's just not going to be the case with coronavirus."

Hyten said with almost all of the Roosevelt's crew of 4,865 now tested, 416 tested positive — nearly 9% — and 3,170 tested negative, while the results for another 1,164 were still pending. Of those testing positive, he said 229 — more than half — showed no symptoms of the disease.

"I feel like all leaders should be talking to their citizens like this."

On April 1, at the end of an hour-long briefing by officials, Jacobs had a simple message for her people about the importance of social distancing.

"We can stop [the spread of the virus]," she said. "Stop moving. Simply stop moving."

"If you do not have the type of bread you like in your house, eat crackers. If you do not have bread, eat cereal, eat oats, sardines," she said.

Rise in flu-like illness could be sign of coronavirus spread in the US

[link:https://www.livescience.com/coronavirus-rise-in-flu-like-illness-us.html|

Amazing, eh? That scientists say exact opposite of maggots.

More people in the United States are seeking medical care for symptoms of fever, cough and sore throat, but they are testing negative for flu. That could suggest that the spread of the new coronavirus is picking up steam in the U.S., Bloomberg.com reported.

Those networks are reporting an increased number of ILIs in people who test negative for influenza. However, it's not yet clear whether that increase is due to the spread of coronavirus, according to Bloomberg. In fact, it could be that more people are coming to their doctors with minor symptoms because they are concerned about COVID-19, the disease caused by the new virus.

However, a few signs suggest that COVID-19 could be behind at least some of these regional spikes. For instance, the uptick is noticeable in the Pacific Northwest, and Washington has reported the most cases of any state in the country, with 642 cases and 40 deaths as of Saturday afternoon (March 14.) In the week that ended March 7, 6.8% of Washington residents visited their doctors with flu-like symptoms, compared with 4% the prior week. Emergency room visits showed a similar trend. Like Washington, New York logged a slightly smaller increase in these doctors' visits, with a similar decline in positive flu cases.

Model suggests how airborne coronavirus particles spread in grocery store aisles

[link:https://www.livescience.com/how-coronavirus-spreads-grocery-stores.html|

Based on their findings, the researchers recommend avoiding busy indoor spaces

Scientists in Finland have modeled how small airborne viral particles spread in a grocery store setting, which may help us better understand the spread of the new coronavirus.

For the study, researchers at Aalto University, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the University of Helsinki used a supercomputer to simulate the spread of small viral particles leaving a person's respiratory tract through coughing. They simulated a scenario in which a person coughs in a store aisle between shelves, and took into account ventilation.

They found that, in this situation, an aerosol "cloud" spreads outside the immediate vicinity of the person coughing, and diluted as it spreads, the authors said. But this process takes up to several minutes, and in the meantime, a person who walks by could in theory inhale the small particles.
