Coronavirus traces found in Massachusetts wastewater at levels far higher than expected

[link:https://nypost.com/2020/04/09/coronavirus-traces-found-in-massachusetts-wastewater/|

Coronavirus was detected in Massachusetts sewage at higher levels than expected, suggesting there are many more undiagnosed patients than previously known, according to a new study.

Researchers from biotech startup Biobot Analytics collected samples from a wastewater facility for an unnamed metropolitan area in late March, according to a report Tuesday on medRxiv.

Eric Alm, one of the authors of the study, which has not yet been peer reviewed, stressed that the public is not at risk of contracting the virus from particles in the wastewater, but they may have the potential to indicate how widespread the virus has become, Newsweek reported.

[link:https://wreg.com/news/coronavirus/dhs-warns-faith-community-about-increase-in-online-hate-speech-ahead-of-passover-and-easter/|

The Department of Homeland Security warned the faith-based community ahead of Passover and Easter about an “increase in online hate speech intended to encourage violence or use” the ongoing coronavirus pandemic situation as an excuse to spread hatred.

In a letter to community members Wednesday, the department reminded houses of worship to review security plans and procedures ahead of congregant gatherings, acknowledging that many people are worshiping remotely at this time.

“[T]here has been an increase in online hate speech intended to encourage violence or use the ongoing situation as an excuse to spread hatred,” states the letter from the department’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, obtained by CNN.

Additionally, stressors caused by the pandemic may contribute to an individual’s decision to commit an attack or influence their target of choice, according to DHS.

The Federal Reserve is continuing its extraordinary efforts to prop up the US economy in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Scientists say coronavirus may not end with warmer weather while US plans for life under a new norma

[link:https://wreg.com/news/coronavirus/scientists-say-coronavirus-may-not-end-with-warmer-weather-while-us-plans-for-life-under-a-new-normal/|

WASHINGTON — With health experts warning that warmer months may not bring an end to coronavirus, officials are developing a framework for what America’s new normal could look like.

Members of a National Academy of Sciences committee said in a letter to the White House Tuesday that the data is mixed on if the virus spreads less easily in the heat, however that might not matter much given the lack of immunity.

With more than 432,000 cases and 14,817 deaths, the nation has already had to adjust to a world where social distancing is key to reducing the impact of coronavirus. Families gathered Wednesday night for virtual Passover Seders and weekend Easter celebrations are anticipated to be online as well for many.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Employees who work for a small restaurant chain are out of a job right now, and they’re confused about what happened to an emergency fund meant for them.

Mason Whitman said he enjoyed the majority of his one year working at Next Door American Eatery, one of the flagship restaurants at Crosstown Concourse. In that short time, he rose through the ranks from server to head chef.

"It was a really uniquely encouraging atmosphere to work in," Whitman said. "I never dreaded a single day of work."

I am not personally familiar with this restaurant, but I'm guessing this is the NORM, while repukes LOOT STIM FUNDING!

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Democratic Party’s executive committee on Wednesday voted to remove state Rep. John DeBerry from the party’s 2020 primary ballot.

DeBerry has served in his House District 90 seat in Memphis since he was elected in 1994. He is allowed to appeal the party’s decision.

State Democrats did not elaborate on why committee members voted 41-18, with two abstaining, to remove DeBerry from the August primary ballot. But DeBerry has drawn criticism from fellow Democrats for frequently voting with Republicans on several issues, including school vouchers and the “fetal heartbeat bill.”

Warrant for journalists from Jerry Falwell Jr. came from Liberty University’s own police
Published 10 hours ago on April 8, 2020By Sarah K. Burris

A right-wing commentator interviewed Jerry Falwell Jr. during his show Wednesday, where Falwell said that there were two arrest warrants open for reporters who came onto Liberty University’s campus.

Upon further examination of the warrant, the police officer who signed the warrant was Detective/Sgt. A.B. Wilkins 206 LUPD. The LUPD is not the Lynchburg Police Department nor is there a Sgt. or Detective A.B. Wilkins. It’s the police department under the authority of Liberty University.

Warrants are typically issued by a judge who directs an arresting officer to execute the warrant. No judge appears to have signed the warrant nor is there a judge mentioned, though the warrant does cite the Lynchburg, Virginia courthouse. The warrant also doesn’t appear to be certified by the clerk that it was submitted to the court. Clerks generally stamp documents when received.
