Former British police officer jailed for abusing over 200 girls on Snapchat

Former British police officer jailed for abusing over 200 girls on Snapchat

A former British police officer was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison with a minimum term of 12 years after he pleaded guilty to over 100 child sex offenses, including threatening and blackmailing more than 200 young girls into sending him sexual photos of themselves on Snapchat.

Prosecutors say Lewis Edwards, 24, targeted 210 girls between the ages of 10 and 16 by posing as a teenage boy on the phone app. He groomed them into sharing indecent images of themselves, then threatened many of his victims when they refused, blackmailing them into complying out of fear that he would expose them.

Edwards, who joined the South Wales Police in 2021, was a serving police officer when he committed the majority of the offenses. He was arrested in February, and has since pleaded guilty to some 160 counts of child sex offenses and blackmail.

In one case, prosecutors said Edwards threatened to bomb the house of a victim and shoot her parents if she stopped sending him images.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke said Edwards was a prolific offender who posed a high risk to children. She described his behavior as “cruel and sadistic."

“The defendant pretended to be a boy of a similar age. He groomed his victims psychologically, manipulating them until he had gained control," she said. “It is clear that he not only gained sexual gratification but he also enjoyed the power he had over the young girls.

Former Chesapeake officer pleads guilty to 38 felony counts related to child porn

Former Chesapeake officer pleads guilty to 38 felony counts related to child porn

A resigned Chesapeake police officer pleaded guilty to 38 felony counts related to child pornography.

During a hearing at Chesapeake Circuit Court on Tuesday, Oct. 24, Timothy Newton pleaded guilty. As part of the agreement, he must register as a sex offender. News 3 previously learned through court documents that Newton's home was searched last year after the Chesapeake Police Department received a complaint that alleged Newton was taking indecent liberties with a child in his care.

Prior to his arrest and suspension from CPD last November, he was with the department since February 2007, according to police.

Newton's wife and mother were present in the courtroom and were visibly emotional. Newton's family was aware of his intent to plead guilty, according to his lawyer. "This was the agreement we had negotiated, so it's something we had anticipated and prepared both he and his family for. So it went according to what we had expected," said Newton's attorney James Broccoletti.

Newton will appear in court again on Jan. 12 for his sentencing. If convicted, he could face up to 360 years in prison.

Former Vermilion Parish deputy found guilty of child rape, faces two life sentences

A former Vermilion Parish Sheriff's deputy was found guilty of child rape charges Tuesday.

Bryan Dawayne Kibodeaux was found guilty of two counts of first-degree rape, sexual battery, and molestation of juvenile after three victims and the Louisiana State Police investigators testified. Vermilion Parish District Judge Thomas Frederick handed down the guilty verdict Tuesday.

Kibodeaux committed the crimes from 2016 through 2019 and was arrested in February 2019.

Kibodeaux will be sentenced in December. He faces two life sentences for the rape convictions and 125-495 years for the additional convictions.

“All three girls bravely testified in this case, and we and the families are very happy with the result. This offender will not be able to do this to any other little girls in Vermilion Parish or anywhere else,” said state prosecutor Celeste White
