DeSantis Top Donor Invests in COVID Drug Governor Promotes

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — who has been criticized for opposing mask mandates and vaccine passports — is now touting a COVID-19 antibody treatment in which a top donor's company has invested millions of dollars.

DeSantis has been flying around the state promoting a monoclonal antibody treatment sold by Regeneron, which was used on then-President Donald Trump after he tested positive for COVID-19. The governor first began talking about it as a treatment last year.

Citadel, a Chicago-based hedge fund, has $15.9 million in shares of Regeneron Pharmaceutical Inc., according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Citadel CEO Ken Griffin has donated $10.75 million to a political committee that supports DeSantis — $5.75 million in 2018 and $5 million last April.

It's not unusual for hedge funds to have a wide range of investments. And BlackRock, which has primarily donated to Democratic candidates, though has also donated substantially to Republicans, has a large holding in the company - more so than Citadel.

McCaul: Biden will have 'blood on his hands' over Afghanistan withdrawal

The top Republican on the House Foreign Relations Committee on Sunday said President Biden will have “blood on his hands” over the withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan — as Taliban fighters entered Kabul and American troops raced to evacuate staffers from the US Embassy.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said the US troop pullout has been “an unmitigated disaster of epic proportions.

“This is going to be a stain on this president and his presidency,” McCaul said on CNN’s “State of the Union” as Biden spends the weekend out of the public eye at Camp David.

“And I think he’s going to have blood on his hands from what they did,” the congressman added, referring to the Biden administration.

“They totally blew this one, they completely underestimated the strength of the Taliban.”

Did anyone have trouble with the Uber or Lyft services Friday 8/13?

Both of the apps weren't functioning correctly on that day. Did anyone else run into trouble with them around that day?

Barrack Obama's birthday seems to be making the impact some worried it would.

I saw it mentioned in televised media for the 1st time along with an article my Maureen Dowd, the article full of snark and one liners while Mika Brzezinski scolded the Obama as hard, possibly more than she the Sturgis attendees.

There was little to no mention of the cut back or the other precautions taken and little about the current lack of cases beyond a small raise in cases that could be unconnected. Ms. Brzezinski referred to it as a 'tough day for Dems', I guess including the Afghan situation which seems to have stirred her ire against Joe Biden. She digging into him pretty good as well.

Dowd's article "Meet Barrack Antoinette" in The New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/14/opinion/barack-obama-birthday.html

WASHINGTON — Jay Gatsby gave big, lavish, new-money parties at his sprawling mansion on the water because he wanted to seem cool. He wanted Daisy to notice him.

Barack Obama gave a big, lavish, new-money party at his sprawling mansion on the water because he wanted to seem cool. Being cool is important to him.

One difference is that Gatsby opened his house to the uninvited. Obama closed his house to many of the invited after getting flak for hosting “a celebrity mosh pit,” as Stephen Colbert called it, while officials were telling people to mask back up.

It’s hard to stop thinking about the over-the-top fete the former president held at his Martha’s Vineyard manse for his 60th birthday. It is such a perfect taxonomy of the Obama arc.

As president, he didn’t try hard enough on things we needed. He was a diffident debutante with a distaste for politics. Post-presidency, he is trying too hard on things we don’t need. The culture is already swimming in Netflix deals, celebrity worship, ostentatious displays of wealth, not to mention podcasts. Did the world really need “Renegades,” his duet with Bruce Springsteen?

They're really raking Biden over the coals on the Mehdi Hasan show tonight

Over the eviction moratorium, focusing on a weeping 72 old woman that was evicted. They're calling that last minute action to restore the moratorium a 'failed Hail Mary' regurgitated from a Trump era policy that full of holes such as the one the lady's landlord used to evict her.

August 4, 2021

Is there any possibility that Cumo may be innocent?

It really doesn't look good. There's several accusers with corroboration of their experiences, a seeming mountain of document evidence and he really appears to have no evidence or anyone saying that the accusation don't seem like him. His defense/explanation doesn't hold to examination.

Overall, it seems pretty airtight.

Jihadists flood pro-Trump social network with propaganda

Just weeks after its launch, the pro-Trump social network GETTR is inundated with terrorist propaganda spread by supporters of Islamic State, according to a POLITICO review of online activity on the fledgling platform.

The social network — started a month ago by members of former President Donald Trump’s inner circle — features reams of jihadi-related material, including graphic videos of beheadings, viral memes that promote violence against the West and even memes of a militant executing Trump in an orange jumpsuit similar to those used in Guantanamo Bay.
