GOP candidate who pushed QAnon conspiracy theory gets arrested for child pornography

Ben Gibson, who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in November, was arrested in Louisiana this Wednesday and booked on four counts of child pornography, WGNO reports.

Gibson, who was an active Airman at Barksdale Air Force Base, was a challenger in a four-way race for the U.S. House Dist. 4 Congressional seat and lost to Rep. Mike Johnson, who won re-election. Jared Kutz, 30, of Bossier City was also arrested as a result of the investigation and charged with two counts of pornography.

As Media Matters pointed out in January, Gibson has endorsed the “QAnon” conspiracy theory, using its hashtag multiple times on his Facebook campaign page and other social media accounts. The QAnon cult believes that there’s an underground network of Satanic pedophiles who are being covertly pursued by President Trump.

Columnist explains why Trump needs to be treated like a child

Raw Story

Countless pundits have compared President Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the 2020 presidential elections to the temper tantrums of a spoiled child. Washington Post opinion columnist Kate Cohen, however, believes that comparing Trump’s post-election behavior to a child’s temper tantrums “underestimates the damage he has done and could still do.” But Cohen goes on to say that if a Trump/spoiled brat analogy is going to be used, it is important that Trump’s childish behavior not be rewarded.

“Thinking of this problem in terms of parenting might be useful as we struggle to solve it,” Cohen writes. “The first thing, of course, is not to give in. As a parent, you simply cannot reward your child when he whines for an extra cookie, a later bedtime, another Georgia ballot recount.”

According to Cohen, indulging Trump’s temper tantrums “would teach him that sort of behavior works.” And she is glad to see that some people aren’t indulging him.

...

“As every good parent eventually learns, it’s not enough to ignore the misbehavior — and it’s not enough to refuse to reward it,” Cohen explains. “You have to punish it. Or it will never stop. In our house, that meant putting whichever child was trying to overturn a free and fair election into a room by himself. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J.) has called for disbarment of Rudolph W. Giuliani and 22 other members of Trump’s legal enablers team. But what to do with the 74-year-old child himself? Clearly, someone’s got to take away his phone. The only question is, which parent has to play the heavy while the other pretends to be deeply absorbed in washing the dishes?”

ICE Is Trying To Force BuzzFeed News To Divulge Its Sources

Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators issued a subpoena this week demanding BuzzFeed News identify its sources — an extraordinary attempt by the government to interfere with a news outlet acting under the protections of the First Amendment, and a move that the agency’s former chief lambasted as “embarrassing.”

The effort to pressure BuzzFeed News into revealing sources comes after relentless efforts by President Donald Trump’s administration to undermine the free press. The outgoing president has for years lied about news outlets that publish true but critical stories about him and his administration, calling them “fake news,” which has opened reporters up to threats and violence.

...

The subpoena appears to be an escalation of the Trump administration’s efforts to track down the identities of people who provide information to news outlets. It comes just months after the Washington Post reported that DHS investigators had created “intelligence reports” about media members who had reported on leaked documents.

...

The subpoena, issued on Dec. 1 by an agent with the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility, concerns emails sent to ICE attorneys on a fast-track deportation program and plans to fine certain undocumented immigrants. It demands that BuzzFeed News “provide all documentation including, but not limited to: (1) date of receipt, (2) method of receipt, (3) source of document, and (4) contact information for the source of the document.”

45 days until TREXIT!

Can we hang on to our sanity until that blessed day?

Trump Exit 11:59AM January 20, 2021

December 4, 2020

47 more days until TREXIT

I put together and printed out a little Trexit (trump exit) calendar to count the number of days until this reign of horror is finally over. I stick pins in it every day. It's quite therapeutic.

If you have paper December and January calendar pages, make your own by numbering the days backward from Inauguration / Trexit Day, Jan. 20, and tacking the pages on a corkboard. Maybe add a picture of the Orange Treasonweasel, if you can stomach looking at it.

The New Pardoner's Tale

(with a request for pardon from Geoffrey Chaucer)

One day there golfed a greedy Pardoner
and Rudy G, his lawyer and co-conspirator
that straight had come from courts of recount states
And loudly called, “Ya gotta pardon me
Or I will sing full loud to the next AG”
And Trump turned green, and made a squeaky sound

This Pardoner Trump had hair as yellow as wax
but weirdly hung, as does a long-dead skunk
Well-sprayed with sticky stuff, we ken not what
and there over his bald spot overspread
Very thin it lay, by strands one and one
but a hat, for vanity, he did not wear
Unless it was a bright red baseball cap
He thought he looked cool with his combover
Disheveled by the wind, he looked ridiculous
Such glaring tackiness to match his phony tan
A MAGA logo sewed upon his cap
His money bag wide open on his lap
Ready to pardon anyone with loot
Before the voters give to him the boot
All crafty and prepared to grab his share

Never was there such a Pardoner
Since Ford had pardoned Nixon long ago
for hiring plumbers for a campaign trick
but he got caught. That seems such small stuff now
compared to Flynn, and Manafort, and more.
If they have money, pardons will he give
knowing full well he needed major bucks
To flee to some safe place where he could live
After pardoning himself, of course
Or maybe having Pence take up the task
if his self-pardon scheme fell through

And thus with fake flattery and praise
His minions beg for pardons for themselves
But true to tell, he loves to see them squirm
And those who come to him with bribes
would need to grovel and to plead
to win his favor with their offerings

Yet well he knew that if they were to sing
he might be wearing orange, serving time.

To get the bribes, as he could very well
Therefore he ranted publicly and loud.
