There are only two kinds of Republicans.....

Indicted, and un-indicted

(that is, un-indicted SO FAR....)

WHAT is your Favorite Movie OF ALL TIME ????

I know, 'tough question', I can't answer it exclusively myself....

However, I am partial to 'Casablanca', 'Rebecca', 'Gone With The Wind (with all its flaws),
'The Dawn Patrol' (and anything else with Errol Flynn,
and 'Jeremiah Johnson'/ The Candidate' with Robert Redford in his youth.....

Also still love 'The Dead Zone' with Christopher Walken, for reasons which may be political

(every Republican president reminds me of 'Greg Stillson')

Thoughts ?

(Yeah, I'm OLD now..... my father introduced me to 'Errol Flynn', during a PBS thanksgiving fundraiser in the latter 1970s,
although I had already seen him on 'Bugs Bunny'....
Father is dead now, and today was my 61st birthday...)

Former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger says 'If Trump is nominated, I'll vote for Biden'

Former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger describes himself as politically "homeless," at odds with a party he views as "anti-constitutionalist." He believes former President Donald Trump will be the 2024 Republican nominee — and if that's the case, Kinzinger intends to vote for President Biden.

::snip::

"I don't even have to hesitate. Do I agree with everything Joe Biden's doing? No, of course not. He's a Democrat. I'm an old-school Republican, I'll say. But I believe he's a good man, and I believe he's focused on the Constitution. I believe he's not looking for reasons to violate the Constitution like Donald Trump is. I wouldn't hesitate at all," he said.

UNPRECIDENTED: So what happens if TRUMP DIES, 2 or 3 days before

the 2024 presidential election ???

too late for any state to rewrite their ballots...

The US Constitution never considered such a situation..... and the VP candidate would not automatically become the 'president-elect', since the winner of the election (if the GQP actually won it) would have not yet been President anyway...

Yes, in the electoral college, we vote for "electors"----

Those such Repubican electors woud be elected to vote for a 'dead man' in that instance.....
presumably the RNC would align behind another candidate, in that instance.....

Sounds like a recipe for total chaos.... and a lot of lawsuits...

I am asking for the opinions of political and legal experts with this post...
what do you suppose would happen in such a situation ?

(and it IS within the realm of possibility,
that President Joe Biden would WIN against a dead man---
but just throwing this out there.....)

************EDIT:

THANKS to "Ecstatic" who delivered this link, detailing what happens if a major candidate dies, anytime from just before the primaries, through to inauguration day--- a good read, I recommend it:
https://www.brookings.edu/articles/what-happens-if-a-presidential-candidate-cannot-take-office-due-to-death-or-incapacitation-before-january-2025/

In my "3 days before the General Election" scenario, it appears that the RNC would hold an emergency meeting to attempt to select another nominee--- such replacement nominee requiring a majority vote of the RNC. Presuming they made a selection, there would be a publicity blitz, but it would be far too late for the states to change the names of candidates on printed ballots... although I suppose it could be done on electronic voting machines.

Whether the RNC did or did not select a new nominee prior to the election, all votes for Trump electors would still be valid, and the electoral college would meet and vote as usual-- but the vast majority of the Trump electors free to vote for another candidate.

(Whether they would be obliged to vote for the selection of the Republican National Committee would probably depend on individual state laws--- but being the lemming that they are, I suspect almost all of the Republican electors would do so.)

However, as to the General Election itself, with Democratic voters predisposed to vote early, but Republican voters inclined to wait for election day, I suspect many Trump cultists would be demoralized, and not turn out to vote for a dead man, giving President Biden an edge in the results.

Michigan Muslim leaders say they will not vote for Biden -CBS Detroit

(CBS DETROIT) - In light of the conflict in Gaza, a grassroots movement said it's mobilizing Muslim voters against voting to re-elect President Joe Biden.

Dozens of protestors held a news conference outside the FBI building in downtown Detroit to call on other Muslims and allies to abandon the democratic party.

"Gaza is a graveyard for children, and Biden continues to reject a ceasefire," said Huwaida Arraf, a Palestinian Christian who lives in Metro Detroit.

Arraf said Biden should've done more to force a ceasefire, and because of that, innocent civilians continue to be killed in Gaza.

Well, if this isn't cutting off your nose to spite your face, I'm not sure what is....
The same guy said he expects this will cause Biden to lose the election. If Trump is thereby elected, they will have helped to elect a genuine Muslim hater back into the White House. How will THAT help Muslims?

Frankly, if large numbers of Muslims actually do this, and with-hold their votes from President Biden, resulting in a second Trump term and all the darkness that promises to bring--- then I will care much less about whatever happens to American muslims afterwards, than I do now... They would have made their own bed.

This would be the equivalent of African-Americans with-holding their votes from Joe Biden, if the opposing candidate was a KKK member... pretty damned stupid, in other words.

LANSING, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - Thousands of people attended a "March for Life" event Wednesday at the Michigan Capitol lawn in Lansing.

"Today's date has special significance," said Genevieve Marnon, who serves as the legislative director for the Right to Life of Michigan. "It's the one-year anniversary of the passage of the dreadful Proposal 3, which enshrined a right to abortion in the Michigan Constitution."

The group marched to the Michigan Supreme Court building in light of a new federal lawsuit filed Wednesday against Proposal 3, which placed the right to abortion care into the Michigan constitution.

"The claim that's being made in this lawsuit is that Proposition Three violates federal constitutional protections. Protection for free exercise of religion for medical professionals, for example," Marnon said.

Joe Biden Refuses To Resign After Democrats' Humiliating Night Of Wins - Wonkette

https://www.wonkette.com/p/joe-biden-refuses-to-resign-after

After it was clear that Ohio had rejected right-wing Christian fascism and voted to enshrine the right to abortion in its state constitution, President Joe Biden released a statement, and it was “All we do is win, biyatches.” Or more properly:

"Tonight, Americans once again voted to protect their fundamental freedoms – and democracy won. In Ohio, voters protected access to reproductive health in their state constitution. Ohioans and voters across the country rejected attempts by MAGA Republican elected officials to impose extreme abortion bans that put the health and lives of women in jeopardy, force women to travel hundreds of miles for care, and threaten to criminalize doctors and nurses for providing the health care that their patients need and that they are trained to provide. This extreme and dangerous agenda is out-of-step with the vast majority of Americans. My Administration will continue to protect access to reproductive health care and call on Congress to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law once and for all."

Democracy won. He echoed that on Twitter: “Across the country tonight, democracy won and MAGA lost. Voters vote. Polls don't. Now let's go win next year.”

To be clear: There was no result last night that was bad for Democrats. Most were good. Some were incredibly good. (Democrats flipped a Trump +35 district in the New Jersey Assembly!)

"Trump's strong general election polling is a mirage"

"Former President Donald Trump’s general election polling strength is a mirage, and Republicans will be making a grave mistake if they fall for the illusion and nominate him for 2024.

"The New York Times/Siena College poll between Trump and President Joe Biden is making waves, as it shows Trump leading in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. Biden is unpopular, people think the country is on the wrong track, and a majority rate the current economic conditions as “poor.” None of this is a surprise.

"But to assume that this proves there are no electability concerns for Trump is a mistake. These polls are essentially just a reflection of Biden’s disapproval rating (59%) and unfavorability rating (57%). Biden is the focus because he is the president. The people currently being polled are expressing their dissatisfaction with Biden, not that they actually want Trump back.

We know this because Trump still polls very poorly individually as well. His unfavorability rating (56%) is nearly identical to Biden’s. Among undecided and persuadable voters, 46% think Trump winning would be bad for the country, while just 20% think it would be good. A majority, 54%, say that Trump has committed serious federal crimes. Just as Biden is polling below a “generic Republican,” Trump is polling below a “generic Democrat.”

I agree with this analysis. Anyway, a year before the election is several political lifetimes....
