If Twitter is a cesspool for you... then you're doing it wrong.

Let's understand how Twitter works.

When you sign up for a Twitter account, one of the first pages you see will be a list of possible persons/orgs to follow.

It will be general stuff, like Rihanna or maybe a Kardashian...

That's because Twitter doesn't KNOW you yet.

If your primary interest is ARCHAEOLOGY and Ancient Culture... you might type in the search box "Archaeology Magazine" and then you click FOLLOW.

Next you type in Mary Beard... and you follow her...

So you read some content from those TWO and the Twitter algorithm gets the idea and starts suggesting you other people and organizations to follow and read...

Maybe

Smithsonian? Natural History Museum in London?

Cambridge and Oxford Archaeology pages?




Guess what, you'll never see a word spoken by Trump or see a single MAGAT conspiracy theory.

If you're seeing nasty crap in your feed it's because you're involved in the "food fight" personally.

The Twitter algorithm feeds people tweets to MAKE THEM ENGAGE.

So when you start popping into the feeds of Trump, Cruz, DeSantis and Noem and start trolling them...

The algorithm identifies you as someone to start feeding controversial shit to, so that you will engage and make more tweets and replies.



Twitter IS what YOU make it.

YOUR Twitter experience is a reflection of you.

Slightly off topic... Why no 24/7 security at the Pelosi house?

It's in a non-gated part of SF, right off the street... there's a history of vandalism and political protests at her property... like "Where's My Money" and other things painted on the garage door...

They're worth like $120M and his wife is hated by the RWNJ's...

Why no security?

It's a sad question to ask but nowadays... necessary.

If my NW was $120M and I had a famous spouse... and I lived in an unsecure location... Hmmm?

The body of U.S. Army veteran Joshua Alan Jones, killed while fighting in Ukraine, was returned to Ukrainian authorities Wednesday in a swap with the Russian military.

Andrii Yermak, head of the Ukraine president’s office, said on Telegram that 10 Ukrainian prisoners of war, including one officer and nine enlisted soldiers, were released from Russian captivity at the same time. Yermak did not reveal how many Russians were released. "We will continue to work until we bring all our people home," Yermak said.

The U.S. State Department notified the family about the body’s return, Jones’ father Jeff Jones told CNN. Neither the Pentagon nor the U.S. State Department immediately responded to a USA TODAY request for comment. His family had posted a brief statement on Facebook in August acknowledging his death and saying "our main goal is to get his body home."


I hope he gets a hero's welcome and burial here.

Ukraine: "The heaviest of battles" yet to come

A senior Ukrainian official predicted late on Tuesday that “the heaviest of battles” have yet to come for the partially Russian-occupied strategic southern province of Kherson, where he said Moscow’s military is digging in to face Ukraine’s counteroffensive.


Ukrainian forces do not appear to have gained much ground in their counteroffensive in the Kherson region since early October. “With Kherson everything is clear. The Russians are replenishing, strengthening their grouping there,” Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said in an online video on Tuesday evening.

“It means that nobody is preparing to withdraw. On the contrary, the heaviest of battles is going to take place for Kherson,” according to Arestovych, who did not say when the battle might happen.

From a historical perspective and as one who studies war... this will be interesting. It'll be the first major static battle of the war and the first time the Russians will be on defense from reinforced positions.

Add to that "Father Winter" and the interest escalates.

Although Kherson didn't host a major battle in WW2... the Battle of Kherson 2022/2023 will certainly look a lot like WW2 battles in Ukraine.

And two-thirds of reliable Democratic and Republican voters say they’d still support their party’s political candidate, even if that person had a moral failing that wasn’t consistent with their own values.





I can't see the country pulling out of this nosedive...

It's making 1861 look like a family picnic.

Might take 5 years or 55 years but I can't see this improving.

Pet peeve and a nit to pick... "Kamikaze Drones"??

This is really dumb...

I mean... something that's designed and intended to hit a target and blow up isn't a "Kamikaze" right?

It's not like taking a US "Reaper" Drone and crashing it into a target out of desperation...

These Iranian drones are "loitering munitions" meaning basically it's a cruise missile that flies in circles above an area searching for a target and then swooping down to hit it.




It's like calling a sub based torpedo a "Kamikaze Torpedo"

Election Day results... and the future of Trump.

I've been thinking about how the results of Election Day 2022 will affect Trumps future actions.

For example, it's possible that with a GOP LOSS of the House race or even the Senate race... Trump decides NOT to run in 2024.

In that case, I think exit polling would show a public still weary of Trump and his nonsense.

At that point, I think Trump would start losing support of many in DC and a slow erosion among the GOP faithful.

The GOP wants to win and they liked Trump when he was winning.



What IF the GOP wins the House and/or the Senate?

A few options here... Trump takes credit and exit polling still shows support for Trump... he's running in 2024.

However... I also see an out for Trump and the GOP. Everyone is nervous about the legal peril Trump is facing.

I think they will make Trump an offer.

"Take a Victory Lap for the midterms and we'll elect you "Speaker of the House"

Trump would get to sit behind Biden at a SOTU, maybe wipe his orange ass with the speech? He could preside over Biden impeachments or hold hearings grilling the DoJ or Hunter or whatever...

Literally, Nancy would have to hand the gavel to Trump, if she wasn't tempted to smack him upside the head with it...

McCarthy of course, would agree to take the SOTH crown back after 6 months or a year or whatever, once Trump was bored or tired of DC.

Trump gets his revenge, more TV coverage than he's had since 2017 and the GOP is rid of him for the future.

Reports: Iranian (IRGC) troops directly involved in Ukraine War combat.

According to the Ukrainian Resistance Center, Russian forces on Wednesday “brought an unspecified number of Iranian instructors” to the town of Dzankoi in the annexed Crimea, as well as to Zalizniy Port and Hladivtsi in the Kherson region, southern Ukraine. The report claimed this personnel would teach Russian troops how to use Shahed-136 attack drones.

The center also stated that the “Iranian instructors directly control the launch of drones on civilian targets in Ukraine,” including towns in the regions of Odesa and Mykolaiv that have been heavily bombed in recent days after Moscow launched intensified airstrikes across Ukraine in response to the Crimea bridge blast.

“The IRGC is notably the primary operator of Iran‘s drone inventory, so these Iranian instructors are likely IRGC or IRGC-affiliated personnel,” the US-based Institute for the Study of War said in its daily assessment of the Russian offensive campaign on Wednesday.



I had feared their involvement... now I'm curious if they will teach the Russians how to set IED's in villages as the IRGC taught the Iraqi insurgents.
