About Me

65 years old. Lifelong democrat. Saw JFK in New Haven CT on election eve 1960. I was all of 5 years old. Cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. Stayed up all night at the English Speaking Union I London to watch the returns. We celebrated the results about 9 AM London time. I cried the morning I learned Bobby Kennedy had been shot. I don't think I ever quite recovered, although President Obama's election helped a lot. These days I'm a moderate democrat and a cultural conservative. I miss the world of good manners, fancy dress and dancing cheek to cheek. Big TCM fan.

Anybody else reading 'Uncontrolled Spread'?

Just started it. Dr. Gottlieb is a really good writer and I'm learning stuff I didn't know about the start of the Covid crisis.

Apologies re: NE Covid story.

Some pretty sharp person convinced me he was right that the NY Times got it wrong with their table showing increases in Covid in New England. I think it's more accurate to say VT and NH have been elevated. ME went way up but is now declining.
MA, RI and CT are pretty steady.
I used to tell my people: If you aren't making mistakes, you probably aren't doing anything.
As I have said on other threads: Paper went to hell when Red Smith died.

This is a recent tv special from a CT station. Gov. Lamont and Dr. Gottlieb report their personal experiences of dealing with Covid
Both are really critical of the failings of Trump and the CDC. Interesting stuff.

Where Matt Amodio learned to play Jeopardy

It's an Irish pub called The Playwright. They've had an organized trivia league for years. Matt's teams were the regular champs. They say the questions are harder than Jeopardy's.
