NY Times article on Ukraine's offensive (no paywall)

A pretty good article from The Times for a change. Most important point: Ukraine has not yet committed most of its forces.

"The multipronged assault, concentrated along the front in the south and the east, is a test run of Ukraine’s new arsenal of Western tanks and armored vehicles as well as tens of thousands of newly mobilized soldiers who trained in Europe for months in preparation for the fighting. Kyiv, which as expected in the early stages is suffering casualties, will need to show significant progress in its counteroffensive to keep the money and weapons flowing from the West.

The flurry of initial attacks, staged under a cloak of secrecy by the Ukrainian Army, are intended to probe for weak points and lure Russia into revealing its defensive strategies too soon, before the bulk of Ukraine’s new force is put into the fight. Out in the expanse of farmland, the two armies are maneuvering and hiding their hundreds of tanks, armored vehicles and howitzers in tiny villages and thickets of trees, lest the other side guess where their forces are concentrated.

Once in full motion, Ukraine’s counteroffensive is expected to be one of the largest military operations in Europe since World War II.". (excerpt)

Axios: Fox News threatens legal action against Tucker Carlson over twitter broadcast.

"Fox News Wednesday notified Tucker Carlson's lawyers that the former prime-time anchor violated his contract with the network when he launched his own Twitter show on Tuesday, according to a copy of a letter obtained by Axios.

Why it matters: A breach of contract claim sets Fox News up to explore potential legal action against Carlson, a move that would intensify the already thorny public battle between the two parties."

Latest reports from Ukraine (with map)

These are Russian sources. Ukraine continues operational silence. Except for this:

"For those not versed in military history: "Tonight is the night of the nights" was the speech given to the soldiers of the US Army's 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne before they boarded the planes for Normandy.

Ukrainian officers are quoting that speech tonight."

I think the target of Ukraine's advance tonight

Is the city of Tokmak, a major logistics hub for the Russians and heavily fortified.
We will see what tomorrow's news brings.
Slava Ukraini.

The latest on Ukraine's offensive:

A Twitter thread reader text. Bear in mind the info is not verified by Ukraine, it is 48 hrs old and I believe that some of the three Ukraine units mentioned are not the combined arms trained units:

Apparently the Nova Khakhovka dam in Ukraine has been breached.

https://twitter.com/Osinttechnical/status/1665908594431217664

This is a dam on the Dnipro north of Kherson City.

I really don't know what this means. But it will lead to an enormous reservoir of water flowing into the Dnipro River and apparently cause significant flooding on the left bank (Russian occupied territory.
This is just hitting twitter

This will have implications for the nuclear power plant held by the Russians and also the main source of water for Crimea.

CBS and Politico reports: Trumps lawyers visited the DOJ this morning

Getting close, I think.

"Lawyers defending Donald Trump in an investigation related to his handling of highly sensitive national security documents were spotted entering the Justice Department on Monday, as special counsel Jack Smith appears to be approaching a charging decision in the matter.

CBS observed the attorneys, including Evan Corcoran and Lindsey Halligan, entering DOJ’s offices late Monday morning. The subject of their visit was not immediately clear, nor was the identity of the officials they were slated to meet. The Justice Department referred questions on the matter to a spokesman for Smith, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment."
