About Me

65 years old. Lifelong democrat. Saw JFK in New Haven CT on election eve 1960. I was all of 5 years old. Cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. Stayed up all night at the English Speaking Union I London to watch the returns. We celebrated the results about 9 AM London time. I cried the morning I learned Bobby Kennedy had been shot. I don't think I ever quite recovered, although President Obama's election helped a lot. These days I'm a moderate democrat and a cultural conservative. I miss the world of good manners, fancy dress and dancing cheek to cheek. Big TCM fan.

Moonlight in Vermont - Ella Fitzgerald and friend

Touring New England today.

Old Cape Cod - Patti Page

Can't drive to Provincetown without thinking of this one

The Arizona Audit is apparently doing a recount of their recount.

Apparently they have figured out that their first recount by hand was inaccurate and are doing a machine recount which is matching the original official results.
Ken Bennett, the liaison from the state Senate. to the Cyber Ninjas, has been banned from the floor where the audit is taking place.
The new recount is counting ballots not votes. But if it differs substantially from their sloppy hand count, I would think they will have to do another hand count

Elusive Butterfly- Bob Lind

Basically the poster boy for one hit wonders in the mid 60s.
Pretty good song though.

Spring Will be a Little Late This Year - Carly Simon and Jimmy Webb

Now don't be sitting alone late at night and drinking while listening to this one.

Time After Time - Carly Simon

I think Frank Sinatra did it first, but Carly knocks it out of the park!

La mer - Charles Trenet

Bobby Darin would recognize this one

You Don't Own Me - Leslie Gore

The beginning of feminism?

Muhammad Ali's Circus - Sports Illustrated

Sports Illustrated has featured some great writing over the years, but for me nothing has been so unforgettable as this article describing the lives of the people who made up Muhammad Ali's entourage, after the Circus had ended. It's a long article, but if you read it, you will never forget it:

Mask report from Connecticut

Just got back from the local supermarket. A substantial majority of people were back to berating masks. Even a week ago very few were wearing them at the market. Clearly people are concerned about the delta variant. My wife wore one. I didn't. I'll wait for directions from Governor Lamont. He's steered me right so far.
