About Me

65 years old. Lifelong democrat. Saw JFK in New Haven CT on election eve 1960. I was all of 5 years old. Cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. Stayed up all night at the English Speaking Union I London to watch the returns. We celebrated the results about 9 AM London time. I cried the morning I learned Bobby Kennedy had been shot. I don't think I ever quite recovered, although President Obama's election helped a lot. These days I'm a moderate democrat and a cultural conservative. I miss the world of good manners, fancy dress and dancing cheek to cheek. Big TCM fan.

Review of the new Bond movie

I won't do any spoilers. I'll just say: That was quite a dress!

The House's Contempt Powers Explained:

This is from The National Constitution Center. I guess they know as much as anyone:

We Have All the Time in the World - Louis Armstrong

"The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time".

Going to the new James Bond movie

in a couple of hours. A 2:00pm matinee, so shouldn't be crowded and I figure reasonably safe.
I haven't missed a first run Bond movie in many decades. Daniel Craig surprised me by bringing a whole new dimension to the character. He's been fab!
I'm looking forward to it.

Alex Murdaugh taken into custody!

Headline on CNN.. Apparently for stealing the settlement money from the housekeeper's death. That's all I know.

He's being held in Orlando where he was in rehab. Probably no bail bond until he is extradited to SC, which could take weeks.

Lawyer says Murdaugh is Person of Interest in his family's slaying

A lawyer for Alex Murdaugh has admitted that Murdaugh has been a 'person of interest' to South Carolina authorities all along, since the murders of his wife and son in July:

Mad About The Boy - Carmen McRae

Supposedly Noel Coward wrote this about Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., who wrote a great autobiography: My Salad Days.
Nice job by the overlooked Carmen McRae.

Homeward Bound - Simon and Garfunkel

Yanks - starring Richard Gere (1979)

John Schlesinger's masterpiece about the American army that invaded England beginning in 1942. Criminally overlooked at the box office. Available for purchase on a wide variety of streaming platforms.

Elenore - The Turtles
