About Me

65 years old. Lifelong democrat. Saw JFK in New Haven CT on election eve 1960. I was all of 5 years old. Cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter. Stayed up all night at the English Speaking Union I London to watch the returns. We celebrated the results about 9 AM London time. I cried the morning I learned Bobby Kennedy had been shot. I don't think I ever quite recovered, although President Obama's election helped a lot. These days I'm a moderate democrat and a cultural conservative. I miss the world of good manners, fancy dress and dancing cheek to cheek. Big TCM fan.

Trials for 18 Jan. 6 Oathkeepers pushed back until at least Spring.

The large Oathkeepers conspiracy trial was scheduled for January has now been pushed into April and July 2022. This is owing to the large volume of video that apparently has still to be fully processed. Judge Mehta, who is presiding over the case, says he intends to split it into two parts. No Oathkeeper wants to be in the trial with Kelly Meggs who texted saying he was hunting for Speaker Pelosi. Both sides have sought the delay, although all the defendants, particularly those locked up, have a Constitutional Right to a speedy trial. The issue of pretrial incarceration may be revisited.
If the trials result in long prison sentences some leaders of the conspiracy may consider the benefits of implicating higher ups.

Cyber Ninjas Ordered to Turn Over All Records

The Cyber Ninjas have been ordered to turn over all records related to the Arizona Audit pursuant to the state's freedom of information act. The Arizona state senate fought this FOI request all the way to the state supreme court and lost. The records will show who paid for the audit and internal communications about the audit process. State senate president Karen Fann has asked the ninjas to comply with the court order. So far silence from the ninjas:

Summer's Gone - The Beach Boys

Summer is gone! Sigh.

Question about the Murdaugh Assisted Suicide case.

One thing is starting to bother me about that Murdaugh Assisted Suicide claim. There were seven bullet casings found at the scene. And the guy only ends up with one non life threatening wound. Does he even lose conciousness? How could he not be dead with seven chances to take him out (and supposedly that's what he wants)? Very strange.
Any thoughts DU crime buffs?

SC Police open Investigation into Death of Murdaugh Housekeeper and Financial Settlement

Apparently a housekeeper for the Murdaugh family died some years ago in the Murdaugh family home. Alex Murdaugh promised her family he would bring an insurance claim against himself for their benefit. The claim was brought, the case was settled for $500000, but the family has never seen a dime.
SC Police have opened an investigation:

Anderson Cooper has Written a Book about his Family: The Vanderbilts

Anderson Cooper is probably the wealthiest living Vanderbilt. But he earned his fortune himself.
It should be a fun read:

Man Arrested In Murdaugh Assisted Suicide Scheme!

A man has been arrested by South Carolina authorities who allege he assisted SC lawyer Alex Murdaugh in an assisted suicide scheme which would allow Murdaugh's son to collectt 10 million dollars in insurance money. The man was a former client of Murdaugh's. The man arrested, Edward Smith, is alleged to have supplied drugs to Murdaugh in the past.
I link to the NY Post because the story deserves to be read in the tabloids:

I'm Going to a Rock Concert!

OMG! I haven't done this in so long. But I was driving by the local concert venue and just as I passed the electronic sign flashed and said that Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of Beach Boys fame are coming Oct. 8. I think Brian Wilson is a genius. A worthy successor to Cole Porter.
My wife was with me driving. It really didn't register at first. Then we were at lunch and I began to think: I've listened to his music since I was a kid. This will be my one chance to see him
So I ordered the tickets!
I'm pretty excited. It's time to revive the performing arts. The world's opinion of us as a nation may go up and down. But American music and movies (and popular culture in general) are beloved the world over. So after the Great Lockdown I've taken my first step back to seeing a live performance.

Britain OKs boosters for those over 50.

Sometimes the Brits are ahead of us!
